"Hey at least I'm fully aware by now that I can't cook worth shit," Hailey said with a soft chuckle, taking a peak in the fridge. There were some carrots, cucumbers and celery that she could probably just cook really quick. Add some type of seasoning on them or whatever and the others would probably eat it. Works for her. She began getting them out, knowing it best to use these first before they go back before moving onto canned foods.

Nick smiled and nodded. “That’s good. I’d hate for it to be a surprise for you.” He commented softly, glancing at her. He started getting the hamburger dethawed so they could make burgers for all of them. “Should I make 10 probably?” He asked, unsure. He knew they’d need at least 8 but figured hunt at least would eat more than that.

Hailey playful nudged Nick in the gut as she worked on getting the stuff out, nodding at the number.
"Yeah, Hunt will eat more probably," she said, thinking the same exact thing Nick was thinking. Sure all of them had a decently large appetite, except for Faye and Zar it seemed, but Hunt's was just, well, even larger.

Nick nodded slightly. “Okay.” He started getting out some other stuff to season the burgers along with buns and what it. He was grateful for all the fresh food that Brandi and her brother must’ve brought for them, knowing that they’d probably be on the move again soon.

Hailey washed her hands really quick before washing the vegetables and started cutting them. Even that she wasn't the best at and her cuts weren't even and some were bigger than others. But, hey, it was all gonna get eaten so who cares what it looks like.
"I'm actually...kinda glad we came here after all. I was nervous, but it seems...okay," she told Nick.

Nick nodded. “It’s safe and warm..” he agreed. “it’ll be safer for the younger ones for sure. Especially if we go after the school.” He explained quietly, starting to divide up the hamburger and make patties. He glanced over at her.

Nick nodded slightly. “I dunno. It could be him just being a teenager, trying to figure out his relationship with ace along with ya bit letting him be in charge probably.” He commented softly, glancing at her.

"It could be yeah. It's just not like him, you know? Just worries me a little bit," Hailey replied as she cut up the veggies, finishing after a moment. She grabbed a separate skillet and put them in there, searching around the cabinets for some oil and seasoning that would work with her vegetable choice.

Nick nodded slightly. “Id offer to talk to him but we aren’t really on speaking terms. Maybe talk to ace when they get back?” He suggested, glancing at her as he started cooking some of the burgers.

"Yeah that I don't really understand either, why he snapped at you like he did," Hailey said with a frown, looking at him,"Ace is my beat bet for sure, but it's so weird why he won't talk to You."

“He probably doesn’t like that I’m in charge instead of him. They’re growing up, just like the rest of us. And it probably seems unfair to them. I don’t know..” he said softly, glancing at her. He let the patties cook, getting out buns and some veggies and stuff to put on the burgers. “Ace will hopefully know.”

"Maybe," Hailey replied, thinking about that. Hunt had never seemed the type to want to be a leader, but...she didn't know everything about what he want. So maybe...he had changed his mind."I guess I'll talk to Ace about it."

Nick nodded slightly. “I can try but I’d guess Hunt has told him off on doing that..” he commented, unsure what was going on so he didn’t know what the solution would end up being. He’d figure it out later once they knew what was going on.

"No it's fine, I'll take care of it. Either talk to him or Ace when they get back from town," Hailey replied, finding the stuff she was looking for. She added an appropriate amount into the pan with the other veggies and joined Nick at the stove, turning the heat on and putting the skillet there so they could start cooking.

Nick nodded and thanked her faintly. “Okay. They hopefully should be back soon.” He said quietly, glancing at her. He let the burgers cook, flipping them over after a few. “And then we’ll need to sort out some sort of plan about the school.” He commented.

"Yeah. One thing at a time, lets work on getting settled tonight and talk a bit more about the School tomorrow, yeah?" Hailey said, stirring around the vegetables that she had just put on the stove.

Nick nodded slightly. She was right that they should just take it one thing at a time but he wanted to get it sorted out before the school did more or came after them again. He wanted the rest of them to be able to live a bit more normally and not be in fear and on the run their whole lives.

Hailey watched the vegetables as they cooked, glancing over when she heard the it's come into the living room. They settled down to play a game of marbles, making her smile softly. She was at least glad they were still able to enjoy kids stuff and weren't so jaded, like most of the rest of them were when they were that age.

Nick glanced over when he heard the kids come downstairs and settle in the living room, smiling faintly. He kept cooking the burgers, flipping them and letting them finish cooking. He grabbed out a plate to put them all on

Hailey watched the two of them for a few moments before turning her attention back to the vegetables. It would be really embarrassing if she managed to even screw up something as simple as veggies.
"Hunt and Ace have been gone a while," she said almost to herself.

Nick nodded slightly. “They’ll be fine. Hunt needed the distance probably. He’s been kind of a prick lately.” He assured. “They’ll get back and it’ll be fine.” He checked that the burgers were done and put them on a plate so the younger ones could assemble them and eat.

Hailey laughed when Nick called him a prick, not going to disagree with him cause it was true.
"Yeah you're right," she replied, looking at the veggies. They seemed to be cooked so she turned the heat off and put them into a bowl, looking into the living room."Kids food."

Nick nodded. “So we can wait and cook them their food later whenever they choose to show up.” He commented softly. He went to get the girls to have them come eat too since he only saw the youngest kids in the living room. He knocked on the door. “Hey, we made food if you wanna come eat..”

"Yeah okay," Hailey replied, getting plates out for everyone. She helped the kids make up their plates with what they wanted and how much.

Zar looked up when Nick knocked on the door, nodding her head. She had been snuggling with Faye, you know, as they did. She slowly lifted her head up though, looking over at her best friend.

Nick smiled faintly and let them be. He came back to the kitchen to cook a couple more burgers for himself and Hailey. He'd wait to cook the rest for Hunt and Ace until they got back, wanting them to be able to have it warm.

Faye yawned softly when she heard Nick. She glanced at Zar. "Let's go eat?" She suggested gently.

Zar nodded her head at her words, straightening herself up on the bed before slowly standing up and stretching herself out a little bit. She had been very comfy....but food was important.

Hailey got the kids set up with some food, them opting to eat on the floor in the living room. Which was fine, she wasn't all about making everyone eat at a table.

Faye got up and stretched after Zar got up. “We can come back right after.” She assured faintly, waiting for her before heading out of the room to go get their food.

Nick cooked a couple burgers for him and Hailey, flipping them onto the plate once they were done as well. He made himself a burger and grabbed some of the veggies before starting to eat.

With the kids set up, Hailey went back into the kitchen and put 2 burgers each with the buns on plates for the girls, looking at them when they came into the room.
"For you guys," she said, waiting for them to take their food before she got her own.

"Thanks Hailey, thanks Nick," Zar said, not putting anything on her's. She was very plain. She did grab some veggies though before going over and sitting on the couch.

Faye followed her to the kitchen. She thanked them for cooking, taking her plate. She put some stuff on her burgers and got some veggies as well before joining Zar on the couch. She sat close by her side so they could still almost snuggle.

Nick leaned back against the counter as he ate his burger. He nodded slightly to Faye and Zar when they thanked them but kept quiet. He looked to Hailey to make sure she was going to eat too.

Zar looked at her when she joined, also making sure the two of them were pretty close. Enough for arm room, but that was about it. She looked at her food and began to eat slowly, watching the children do the same.

Hailey moved around the kitchen for a moment, just putting things back where they belonged. She had a habit of doing this, get the jitters when they first came to a place a didn't calm down for a good few days.

Faye started eating quietly. She noticed Hunt and Ace were still gone and it felt weird. They usually were all together so any one of them being gone made it feel like there was some weird gap. She tried to brush it off, knowing they’d be back soon.

Nick frowned as he watched Hailey. He was used to her being jittery but tried to help it when she could. He set his plate down and helped put some stuff back in order. It was easier to just help rather than try and convince her to stop.

Zar felt the weird feeling as well, use to the boys being right with them. She just didn't think about it though as she ate, kinda sleepy though. But she was hungry so even if she tried to sleep, it would keep her up.

"You can eat Nick," Hailey said as Nick started helping her, putting away the oil as she spoke. She would eat eventually....maybe.

Faye didn’t mind the quiet as they ate, listening to the background noise from the tv the kids had turned on. She just wanted to eat and then go lay back with Zar. It wasn’t often that they got time to relax so she just wanted to enjoy it.


“So can you hailey. You need to.” He reminded her faintly. They both were kinda bad about taking good care of themselves. They kept themselves alive but their priorities were always taking care of the others. He helped put the other stuff away.

"I know," Hailey replied, knowing that Nick knew that she was just holding it off. A terrible habit really cause there was no reason. With everything put away, she moved over to where her food was, her eyes instead going into the living room where everyone else was.

Nick nodded to her. Once they finished, he went back and grabbed his own burger. He leaned against the counter as he ate, watching Hailey. “You can go back in there with them.” He offered quietly.

Hailey was focused watching when Nick came over, shaking her head.
"No no I'm okay. Just...watching," she replied, her mind going back to Ace and Hunt. She couldn't help it, to her they had been gone a long time, even though they really hadn't.

"Ace and Hunt should be back in a little while, they're probably just taking extra time since Hunt is pissed at me." He assured, guessing at what she was thinking. He didn't like their flock not all being in one place where he could watch over them.

Nick nodded slightly. He finished off his burger and wiped his hands on his jeans before slipping an arm around her. "I know. We'll make this as safe as we can. I don't think your friend is going to betray us honestly. I don't recall much about them but they seemed alright."

Hailey blushes softly with that arm but she didn't move away. Of course not.
"Brandies sweet, really helpful and open minded. Considering she took our secret so well," she replied with a nod,"I don't think she would either."

Nick nodded slightly. "So there's not much to worry about. They couldn't have tracked us this far. We'll be alright to settle for a bit and figure out a plan to stop them from coming for us again." He assured her, staying close.

Hailey nodded at his words, knowing that they were true. She really needed to work on calming down. She had been okay earlier...but now she was getting the jitters. Taking a deep breath, she let it out slowly, finally taking some veggies on his fork and eating it.

Hailey looked at him when his head went down on her shoulder, some pink appearing on her cheeks but it was just a small blush.
"Yeah okay," she replied, beginning to eat a little bit more. It was when she actually started to eat some of the food that she realized just how hungry she had been.

Nick nodded. He stayed leaning on her until she started eating again. He lifted his head and moved back from her to clean up most of the stuff from the kitchen. He’d cook the burgers for the boys whenever they got back and then would probably take first watch so hailey could sleep.

Hailey ate slowly as she just continued to look around the cabin really, catching Nick whenever he glance at her and she would get a little pink in the cheeks each time. He was cute...not that she would really admit that to him though.
