I read Meadows debut novel Calling Out the year it came out, loved it, and promptly forgot about her. I stumbled across this title at my library recently and was happy to be reminded of her. (It's been a while, but I really recommend Calling Out, it was about an escort service in Salt Lake City .)

This book took place in the Dust Bowl (is that a time or place? LOL - let's assume both) ... This book tells the story of a family trying to survive in this time/place. I really like the way Meadows tells a story. There's nothing particularly original here, it's a snapshot in history well told.

I enjoyed it.
