I remember when this book first came out it was all the rage. The title put me in mind of a 1,000 page novel about the South in the civil war, and I wasn't interested. It was neither 1,000 pages nor about the civil war.

In fact, it's largely about a "too big to fail" financial institution (Union Atlantic ...ohhh, makes sense) in post 9/11 US.

Having just finished Imagine Me Gone I was hoping for more of the brilliance I saw in that novel but while it was interesting, it doesn't really compare.

However, Haslett is a great writer and will be keeping an eye out for his next books.

I think I would be more likely to read a 1,000 page book about the South in the civil war....

I still don't get the Union Atlantic reference to a financial institution...

I personally think that it is going to be a business history of the telegraph industry! lol
