My brother in law grew up speaking Spanish at home and English everywhere else. He thought he’d get an easy college credit, and took a Spanish class- and found himself reading Don Quixote in the very original Old Spanish. He nearly failed. So much for an easy A...
I know that the quarterly reads all have moderators but can't find the topic thread where this is listed.
I think that the moderator could kind of suggest which translation she is going to favor. I won't get a new book and if I reread it so that I can participate in discussion, it will be what I already own.

I found this. The four "major" translations that are referenced over and over again are by Smollett, Grossman, Putnam, and Raffel.
