Possible spoilers ahead. I've been trying to remember the name of this novel I read years ago. I don't remember too much about it. I think the basic plot is that this woman lives in an old manor with her grandfather(?) or uncle(?), I'm not really sure which, but they are both eccentric, and a handsome guy comes to take over the manor due to money issues on the other two's part, or some such. I think she's a painter. Anywho. The one absolute detail I cannot seem to forget is that they have a long-standing bet as to who can hold off from cussing the longest. And they've come up with some really funny alternatives. Things like 'Codswallops and toad livers!' when someone stubs a toe, though I don't think that was actually said in the book.
