SOLVED. An Epic Climb Up a Sheer Cliff to a Dark Story Ending (Dark Fantasy)

Around 8 to 11 years ago I snagged a book from a library I no longer live near that was really good. I would like to reread this book as I do not recall all of it anymore. I would appreciate any help provided.

Here is what I recall: The book features a Female Protagonist that partners with a Male rival to explore.

They live in a city outside of the shadow a massive cliff wall no one has ever returned from exploring.

They gather a party and travel through the shadow of a massive cliff wall to reach the cliff itself and climb it. As they climb they sleep hooked to the cliff wall, in caves or on small ledges when able.

It takes them days to climb the cliff past the clouds.

They reach a jungle at the top of the cliff and the Male rival awakens an ancient creature within a temple.

This massive creature descends the cliff in a few strides heading for their city.
