I have to agree with the others. That is a beautiful poem, Terry.

We did do that about a year ago, Elaine. But it might be time to do it again.

Lynette White (lynettewhite) | 306 comments Thank you for your votes. There is just one person left to vote and as soon as I get that person's vote I will be announcing the winners. Right now it is a really tight contest and that last set of votes can change everything.

How about - after the voting is in at the end of the month, post poems, prose, etc such as at the end of the June thread since it will not be used anymore. Just a suggestion. Of course approval is needed from Admin.

Elaine, that is exactly how it is, you are so right. I like writing things out at length, for this, I necessarily learn to write in other ways.

My June story was originally over 1700 words. Had to get creative and trim it down to 1000 or under. I still have the longer version just in case I want to use it elsewhere.

That's a good idea. Maybe we can do a couple of months of just sharing poetry with no contest or host. What do you think?

I too enjoyed your poem, Terry. I had to read it twice :)

Lynette White (lynettewhite) | 306 comments Hey everyone, I just found the missing votes. I am going to be doing some family stuff for a few hours. I will get the votes finalized and the winners posted later this evening.

Lynette White (lynettewhite) | 306 comments WINNERS

This contest quite literally came down to the very last vote.

First : I want to apoligize for this delay. Saturday , was the first day of a family vacation and I was still waiting for that last vote. It was a three way tie for first place and the final vote broke the three way tie but left two tied for second place. But enough of the chit chat.

First place goes to: Relics of the Past by Terry

Second place goes to : Symie the terrible bu Elaine and The Nory Project by Rebecca

Third place goes to: The Healing Stone by Glenda

Everyone did a great job at accepting the challenge this month. Now, on to the July challenge.

Lynette, when I first saw the guide lines for the June story, I thought I would be sitting the June month out. I didn't think I could come up with anything on the subject but then an idea came and then another until I had over 1700 words. Many of my ideas and even the mood of the story had to be cut to get 1000 words or under. But on the bright side, maybe the shorter version is not as boring. Thanks to all for the votes. Even if I had not finished in the top 3, I feel like I would be a winner just by posting a story.

I might add.... that I may have an advantage as I am retired with nothing else to do. Where as, I know all or most of you are busy with other writings and such. Now on to July. Happy 4th to all.

Elaine Faber (elainefabergoodreadscom) | 142 comments Congrates to the winners. Happy to share second place with Rebecca. As Terry said, the story is much longer and to cut it to 1000 really takes away from the whole, but that's what we work with. Thanks Lynette for your efforts on our behalf.

Lynette White (lynettewhite) | 306 comments Terry, I am glad you decided to submit your story . Yes, it can seem resrictive at times but that is what hones our skills. Can we get the same superior quality with 1000 words as we can with 1800?

A STORM IS COMING

A storm is coming. I feel it in the air; I see it in the darkening clouds.

My dog, Jake, feels it too. Actually, he knew it long before I did; Staying very close to my side.
He knows I will protect him from the two things that frightens him most: the dreaded lightning demon and it`s sidekick Thunder.

I should not have bothered with the air or perused the clouds.
All I needed to do was listen to Jake.

A storm is coming.

F.F. Burwick | 204 comments Congratulations to the winners this month, and it was good writing from all. And 1000 words is not so much to work with, but it is a way to learn better ways to write.
