Dawn | 3250 comments Some of the changes last night didn't make sense to me. I understand most of the changes he has made simply by getting there is still a lot of book to get through in 6 weeks but they spent a lot of time focusing on stuff that won't even be dealt with until next season. Of course that could be the issue. Setting up next season as there is even more book to get through in the same time.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
That's what I meant by what comes later. He wasn't referring to this season. In defense of that, I must admit that I was confused in Voyager about these relationships. I actually have more clarity about what I know comes next. I just didn't remember these scenes and maybe that's why he chose to approach the story this way. It's kind of working for me.

Maggie | 1579 comments I'm watching the first season now. Can I just say when Jamie comes in through the window and says( in that delicious accent)" I'll thank you to take your hands off my wife." Oh my! I think I could cheat on Roarke with him ;)

What a delicious choice! Roarke or Jamie! And both with a to-die-for accent.

message 657: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments Now that would make time travel a little more interesting.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
Lol! I'll say:)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments I wonder if some of this is 1) to make the story flow better as they're trying to fit a huge book into 16 hours. 2) to keep people interested that have read the book so it doesn't follow verbatim.

Hubby was laughing last night when I kept saying, Wait, that's not in the book! Dawn, you are definitely the expert here, in the book, do you remember Dougal saying that he was in love with Gellis? I remember getting the impression that he didn't care for anyone but himself.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
Just based on what I've heard the producer say during panel discussions, it's my thinking that he's trying to tell the story in a way appropriate for a different medium, capturing the essence of the story. What works well reading doesn't necessarily translate well on screen. I've not heard him complain about fitting it all in...just the challenge of determining what's critical and relevant. He's using Gabaldon a lot and she says she's happy.

message 661: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments I agree Jonetta. It was just a lot of major changes in one episode. I have not minded any of the changes up until now, but some of these were pretty intense. Like, in answer to your question Karen, no Dougal never expressed love for Gellis I am trying to keep myself just to Outlander here (because there is a lot of stuff later in the series) but later in the book while Claire is looking for Jamie, Dougal clearly did not love her. It was more that stuff that concerned me. Moore's continued statements that his job is "not to mess up my wife's favorite book" stick with me and I don't think the changes do that.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
If his intention was to keep us off balance about Dougal, he accomplished that. I've never understood him and always found him to be treacherous.

I'm wondering was that just a lie about Gellis? (I'm only up to the third book in the series)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
Oops! I've read the first three.

Michelle | 2668 comments Just had a marathon watch of the first 9 episodes ( the wedding was the best). Besides the fact with you ladies; Jamie will be my visual and Roarke my book husbands. Anyway. I've never read the books but I just had to get a copy. This way I can pick it up anytime and be in Bonny ol' Scotland.
Thank you ladies. Another successful convert ;-)))

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
Yay! Glad you enjoyed. That must have been fun watching the shows back to back.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments Michelle, Outlander was so good. I'm now reading the second book which is really good also. Hope you enjoy.

Dawn | 3250 comments Be forewarned. The audios of this series are among the best narrations I have ever heard. I was unable to read them once I heard them. Enjoy the book Michelle

Audio is what hooked me! So much better than reading these books.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
Ditto on the audio!

Michelle | 2668 comments Thanx ladies. Think I just might try and buy the audio.

And yes Jonetta watching them all just made me want a Scot of my own never mind the beautiful landscape. The story was also goooood !

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 288 comments I started the first book and I'm really enjoying it. I have been trying to get to it and I'm glad that I started it. I guess it will be my Spring cleaning book :)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments I'll throw in my 2 cents, Michelle. Audio is fantastic!

Dawn | 3250 comments I think it is on sale if you have the Amazon ebook.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
And the Kindle edition was on sale, too.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
It's $1.99 and then you get the audiobook for $3.99.

What did you all think about tonight's episode of Outlander?

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments I was holding my breath throughout the trial. It was funny because I was nervous even though I knew what happened. Oh Jamie...love him more each week. The look on his face when she tells him the truth.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
Couldn't take my eyes off of the screen. I love how they did the closeup of Jamie while Claire told him where she came from.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
And Laoghair...don't get me started.

message 683: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments I was screaming around the time that she and Father Loser was testifying since it was wayyy different than the book. But beyond those scenes I loved it. A bit bummed that the TV audience missed the fact that Father is dying of blood poisoning but since I know it in my heart I am okay in the end.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments I always look forward to your telling us the differences from the book, Dawn. I said to my hubby, I don't remember that part from the book...haha. I didn't remember that she did but hubby asked me if Laoghair gets hers in the book.

message 685: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments She does not get hers in this book. She becomes a big issue in a later book. Remember there is no disclosure in the book that she had any part in Claire's arrest. She was no where near the village during the arrest or trial in the book.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments That's what I remembered but the show has confused me a bit. Thanks, Dawn.

message 687: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments Lol. Np. I have probably listened to this series at least as many times as I have the In Death series. These two,BDB and Rock Chick are my go to listens. Speaking of Rock Chick, someone just told me KA's The 'Burg series comes out on Audible on May 12.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
Thanks, Dawn. I didn't recall her being at the trial either. I think that's to set up the third book. (view spoiler)

Lol! Love the term Father Loser. He really was despicable and that does come across.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments One more question. You'd think I'd remember but I thought in the book Jamie fought to get Claire away when they were getting ready to burn her at the stake too. I didn't remember Geillis speaking up at the trial. Or do I have that wrong?

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
My recollection is the same as yours, Karen.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11247 comments Mod
I loved the show although there are definitely differences from the book. I'm to the point now where I'm just watching Outlander, the tv series, and enjoying it as though I haven't read the book. I thought the scene where Claire tells Jamie the truth & where he says, "Are you ready to go home?" were really good. When he takes her to the stones...and sets her free and finally, she returns to him of her own choice. Great stuff!

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
My favorite part, too, Sandra. And, like you, I'm just enjoying the TV series.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments Oh, I am too. It is fantastic. Just trying to remember where it differs from the book. I find it interesting how the story differs for a bit and then arrives at the same ending. The interview with Ron Moore at the end of this episode was so interesting how he said that they changed the part where Claire learns that Geillis was a time traveler too.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
I'm enjoying those commentaries.

message 695: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn | 3250 comments She spoke out at the part where they were going to drown them to see if they were witches, while Jamie was fighting to get Claire away from them. That is also when Claire saw the smallpox vaccination scar. But I think since the search for Jamie is going to be done in one episode, they plan on cutting out Dougal's commentary about Geillis' death when he tells Claire she wanted him to tell her 1 9 6 8, so they added it into this episode. Just a guess though. When I looked up the episode schedule a few weeks ago I was surprised how much they were cramming into one hour of TV. Like I think it will end with their escape to France and not show any of the healing process while they are there.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
Caitriona on Claire....I think she nails her.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments She definitely does, Jonetta.

Dawn | 3250 comments OMG! Tonight's episode is my favorite since the last half of the season. Almost everything got in there, even if it was out of order.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15101 comments Mod
It was interesting to see the visual depiction of Jenny's relationship with Claire. I just don't remember her being this disagreeable but it explains a lot about what comes in Voyager.
