Hi, A question to librarians which are more experienced than I am.
How to organize (combine/separate) books which where originally published as separate works (and as a series, see https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_M...), and are now published either separately or in omnibuses which contain (per edition/language) different subsets of the series? I came across this issue when looking at Roger Martin du Gare, especially his "Les Thibaults" series of 8 books. See https://www.goodreads.com/author/list...
Another example of this issue is the "Á la recherche du temps perdu" series of Marcel Proust https://www.goodreads.com/author/list...

The 8 books, should be a series, 1 to 8. If the works were published separately, they should still be separate. If they've been combined incorrectly, they should be separated.
Omibuses can be added to the series using the appropriate book numbers, but should never be combined with a single work that was published by itself. Also when looking at the edit series page you'll notice a box to the right hand side - omnibuses do not get a tick.

Well done Paulus. I think the 2 book #8's should be combined. Especially as it is an 8 book series and is showing as 9 books :)

The 9 books showing is probably cache issue with Goodreads, as I only marked 8 books as primary works. You're probably right about the #8's. I doubted, as the first #8 is an independent issue whereas the second #8 is part of an editor series (Les Thibault I until V) in which the last volume coincides with one primary work... But as they contain the same work, I'll combine them anyway ;-)
Well, if they aren't the same content, don't combine them. If one of them has more than the original work, whether an editor series or not it stays as a #8 but does not get the tick in the column on the right. Which should then show 8 books in the series.And it could be a caching issue.
