AHHHH SO I'VE FINALLY FINISHED BOOK 2!! It was soooo goooood
(view spoiler)[ Iactally got so emotional when Liraz had her break down, I think seeing such a hard-faced character break like that was so interesting yet so horrible to watch, I so felt for her i'm going to miss Hazael so much.
I was literally so confused when Thiago came back I was like wtf is going on but then it was actually Ziri and the ball dropped and I was like ohhhhhhh lol.
So excited to see these two armies now fighting together against the Dominion!
Shall be picking book 3 up tomorrow, so excited to read the conclusion ahhhh. (hide spoiler)]

All the stuff concerning Brimstone and the magic system is super interesting but sadly the romance part of the plot is feeling very predictable and kinda boring for me. I've never been a huge fan of the forbidden love trope to be honest.

I do enjoy fantasy series that are heavy on romance, but only if I'm super into that romance. Maybe I'll start to like it more now that Karou is getting those memories back and stuff so there's more of an established relationship? (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 28: (view spoiler)[So I've already read more than a quarter, but I wasn't able to update till now. The developing relationships between Karou and the rest of the chimera are interesting to watch, though I really hope Karou won't stay passive for long. Resurrection is important, but I want to see her step out and take a more active role in this war.

Is it bad that when Karou was like "I was stupid to love him, it was more lust than anything, etc" I agreed? I never really liked them together in the first book, it seemed quite insta to me.

I like we're getting some new perspective—I can see how Ziri's will be very interesting and I want to learn more about Sarazal's role in this book. Can I also say I love there's a large friendship here between Karou and Zuzana? (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 47: (view spoiler)[Zuzana finally found Karou! Zuzana is a tad too quirky for me sometimes, but at least I'm eager to see their friendship continue. I wonder what she'll say when she finds out that Karou has to hurt herself to make those bodies she's so excited to learn to create.

I wouldn't mind having a Karou x Ziri ship instead of Karou x Akiva XD. But how did Ziri escape? And he didn't give up Karou's identity, right? I don't think he would have. I was kind of hoping, when Ziri was surrounded, that three of the seraph were Akiva, Hazael, and Liraz, and they would save Ziri. I'm interested in seeing how Liraz eventually turns sympathetic, because I think she will.

Chapter 59: (view spoiler)[I'm so glad that Issa is alive! I was surprised, though—I thought it would be Brimstone. But I guess that would have been too good/easy.

It looks like Karou is about to start taking matters into her own hands, especially with Issa there to support her. I'm really looking forward to that, because as I said before I wanted her to. Thiago's way of handling things is pretty terrible. I'm guessing that Karou will have to meet Akiva again soon... I'm slowly warming up to the idea of the two of them together again, but I'm not sure.

Also, I think one of my favorite characters is Liraz! And Issa. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 73: (view spoiler)[Wow, so much has happened I don't know where to start. I am... so glad Thiago is dead. But all of Karou's friends, who supported her? All of them dead? That's so terrible. I wonder if she can someone sneak back and get their souls. Speaking of souls, it's also great that many lives are saved in the cathedral, though it will be a ton of work to get them back.

Hazael, dead? And Liraz, dragged off? But with the storm of birds, Akiva will probably be able to get away with Liraz.

I'm intrigued to learn more about the Stelians, though I have to say I still don't get what their role is in all of this. (hide spoiler)]

Finished! (view spoiler)[Ziri made such a big sacrifice for Karou... now there are no more of his kind left in their original body. Honestly, I still wouldn't mind a Ziri x Karou ship but that's not gonna happen.

I think Hazael not being able to be saved was one of the saddest parts in this book, because of the reactions of the people surrounding his death. I thought for a moment he would live after all.

They were too late to seal the portals! I was all ready to get sad over Karou leaving Zuzana, but now the angels are here and they are in hiding. They really don't seem to be faring that well, even if the angel and chimeras are now (kind of) working together.

Anyway, I think I like this book better than the last one, so four stars! (hide spoiler)]
