Many were sad to see this LitRPG Series end.

What did you think of it overall?

Pretty sure you are correct. The series did end, with an ending that was both good and bad in my opinion.
There are still a lot of open quests and things, but the story the author wanted to tell was already over 1 or 2 books before but his contract said that he had to write more books in this series, if memory serves me right.
