Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I love that your niece wanted to do the fruit machine "pull". It's great that kids see how much fun reading can be.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments From my book, Astrid and Veronkia by Linda Olsson, chapter 34,
page 219:

Give a word or two
and it's easy to go.
All our meetings
should be just so.

It is a lovely story. Each chapter heading has a poem or a couple of lines.

Amanda (Mandy) | 762 comments I picked the word summer and the fruit machine gave me Lake to gopher.

message 55: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments Oh my, finally did this. Associated to all the words. My dad was a librarian, so I had library on the list. With like 20 words in the machine, out came library. This will take some gophering.

message 56: by Annerlee (new)

Annerlee | 2871 comments Finally plugged some words into the fruit machine. My choices are:

Sweden (for Solstice - I spent midsommer there once)
White (wedding)
Sun (Summer)

I'd like to read a book set in Sweden that isn't 'noir' or Pippy Longstocking.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Try some Fredrik Backman books, if you haven't read them yet Annerlee. Or The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared. That's as far as my knowledge of books set in Sweden goes ;-) Oh wait, the Millennium series (starting with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) is Swedish too I think, but I haven't read it.

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments Maybe you'll find something on this list, Annerlee.

message 59: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Annerlee - I really liked The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It is very gritty and different. The author passed away after the 3rd book, but someone else is writing the newer books. I read the 4th and have the 5th on my ZZ challenge. I have heard that the Kurt Wallander series books are very good, but I have not read them yet. The first one is Faceless Killers. I have the Hundred Year Old Man on my TBR list.

message 61: by Heather (new)

Heather Is there going to be a July challenge?

message 62: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yes, there's a challenge every month. Rusalka is probably asleep right now (being in Australia), but I'm sure she'll post the new challenge soon.

message 63: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments Just a few short days and June will be over! How is that even possible? It's just flown by.

message 64: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I feel like that every month lately. It's like it's New Year's day and I blink my eyes and it's Christmas again.

message 65: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments For me, it has been the unusually hot weather. It is like being on holiday and vacations always go too quickly :-D
