Synopsis

Had to set aside Lilac Girls. It's a little depressing and I need some fun historical romance to lighten my mood!

That book was so sad! I'm hoping to start this one later tonight or tomorrow. I'm hoping the narrator is good!

I started it, but decided to read instead of listen. It's good so far. Not sure I love Ravenel much yet. He's described as charming, but he's kind of a jerk.

I do love how strong Kathleen seems, though. Going to read more tonight.

Ok, moving right along on this one! I'll try to spoiler things until you get caught up.

Still loving Devon and his brother West. He's so great, and while I get that Kathleen is in mourning, she should let herself be happy.

I am not sure how I feel about Helen (view spoiler)[ and Winterbourne. He seems ok, but she seems lukewarm about the whole arrangement. Maybe she's just reticent. I want to like them together. Maybe something will happen to make me love them as a pair? (hide spoiler)]

I've made it through the first two chapters - I'm liking it so far. I especially liked the introduction of the twins- they seem quite adorable and unique :)

Through Chapter 11 (view spoiler)[I'm really liking Kathleen, she's self assured and isn't concerned with communicating what she thinks is right and wrong. I'm also glad to see that West is such a sweetheart and thinking of good things for the estate. The pig cracked me up :)

Regarding Helen (view spoiler)[I think she has been alone with her family for so long, that she is unsure. I have hope for Rhys, he had been in pain and unsure and also seems a bit of a loner, that it seems like it will take him a little for both of them to open up. I'm hopeful! (hide spoiler)]

Overall (view spoiler)[I enjoyed the story, I was a bit mad at both Kathleen and Devon around chapter 28, the baby scare. They both just killed me with their behavior, I thought they were beyond that at this point in the book.

And I'm completely surprised by Rhys' behavior! (hide spoiler)]

Very curious to hear what you think of book 2. I liked it a little more than book 1. But I have a soft spot for Helen and Rhys.

Yes, I am looking forward to seeing how they do in their first season. They were adorable and quirky. I love Pandora.

Oh, I love West's transformation most of all! I had forgotten about (view spoiler)[the pig. That was just so appropriate for that unconventional household. And West is so caring of all the women. It's good that he was challenged by Devon to get involved. Just what he needed. I love that whole subplot. (hide spoiler)]

I agree with the thoughts above. I was surprised at the behavior of various characters. I also felt like at least half the book was devoted to (view spoiler)[ Helen and Rhys (hide spoiler)] which didn't give enough time to focus on the main love interests. I am not sure that I felt a ton of chemistry in between them but (view spoiler)[ the proposal with the talk about time and waiting was quite lovely (hide spoiler)]

Loved West's transformation.

At first glance you see how you can go from disliking a character to being their champion in the end. At first Devon acts like a , like a Rake with his thoughts on what to do with the lands. I like Katherines spunk and maturity and how she handles what she over hears Devon tell his brother.

I agree that she handled that well - instead of just running off and getting all dramatically hurt (which seems to happen a lot in books AND real life).
