While I found Halliday's novel a compelling read, I had a hard time believing the character of Alice would write 'Madness.' There was a certain lethargy about her character which was basically very compliant until the end of 'Folly.' That said, I was fascinated by 'Madness' and found that part of the book to be some of the finest prose, her characterization so credible and the way she handled time shifting so seamless.
