Also to everyone, this is the way I search for GIF's. 
for future ref:< img src="www.example.com" "description"/ >
^^ MINUS the spaces between the < and > at both ends. 🙂
(edit: just figured out, you don't need "description" at all, so like you can actually just do
< img src="www.example.com"/ >
and it'll still work so #mindblown that'll make it sm easier, and save space for more words lol)

ik nobody really checks this anymore, but in case anyone comes back like I did today to find the code:make sure when you're getting your gif that you click "copy image address" instead of "copy link address" - this really messed me up, before I figured out the problem, because it was copying the google search link, and Goodreads can't use that, because it's not linking to one specific image, it's actually a bunch of information (and images haha). So if you copy the image address, you'll get just the image and the link that goes directly to that image :)

In learning how to post a gif, I wasn't able to make anything work until I noticed that the quotation marks that were added from the Mac keyboard weren't absolutely vertical as they appeared to be in the instructions posted on the first page by other group members.When I actually cut and pasted from their instructions, everything fell into place and my gifs immediately loaded correctly.
So if you use a Mac and are having the same issue I was, try cutting and pasting the codes that need to be inserted before and after the gif link. That should work for you as well.
UPDATE: s/o to Christina, who made this 10x easier 😉 we owe you one.
EASY CODE: < img src= "www.examplelink.com" "description"/>
1. copy code
2. put your image link in the link box
3. remove the space in between the < and img and you're good!
(just a note: if you're getting the gif off of a google search, make sure you hit copy image address, not link address. Link address tells GR to pull from the google search, and there's no way to narrow it down to one image. If you say image address, it'll pull directly from that gif.)
The gifs will work in statuses, comments, group bios, PMs, personal bios, and posts/reviews. They will not work in your profile picture because they're not pictures.
Speaking of links...tumblr posts are not accepted, so try to find a different site that has the same gif. Or alternatively, you could post the tumblr link on here and we could try to track an alternate link down for you.
