ABANDONED. Caveman scifi Released before 2000

All I remember is that it involved a caveman guy who gets abducted? by aliens? and I guess has some kind of adventure. I think the caveman had a family he wanted to get back to.
I read it back in the 90's but it might be older then that. And I don't think it was a super long book either.
Maybe a purple cover?

I don't know what age it was targeted towards, It was probably written before YA was such a big thing.
probably some part on earth, some parts alien.
definitely not a romance book.
