Please tell me I'm not the only person in the world who hates this...

Amrutha well I did not hate it as much as you did, But I felt the author could have had more room for us to think about how Amy went missing , instead she shifted the focus to Nick's infidelity and it gives more or less an obvious answer that she left home for sympathy and attention towards herself

The Cruciverbalistic Bookworm I didn't actually hate the book...no, didn't go as far as that...but I certainly didn't like it very much. It definitely wasn't worth all the hype and hullabaloo surrounding it...

Sue S It's complicated! If you follow closely, it's quite the mystery. Some people just don't get into it...move on to "faster" reads! My sister also had trouble with it, but I absolutely loved it!

Sue S I agree Corinne...the movie was altered a bit. Books are always better!

Brittney I liked it, but my daughter couldn't stand it. She said it was a hard read

MCF Personally, Amy's monologue makes the entire book worthwhile.

Karen not only will I not read anymore of her books I won't even touch a book that is recommended by Reese Witherspoon.

Tessa didn't hate it, but did not love it, unrealistic ending but good plot twist

Soban Gone Girl

I read this book hoping for something fascinating/extraordinary to come up since many of my friends + online reviews were raving about it, but really it felt just like a breakup story in which the author tried her best to spice up and make it a page-turner. But, truly every page of this book turned out to be a huge burden as I was eager to reach the end and find out what all the fuss is about.

Never again going to read a book without proper prior research!

Annette Berman Agree!! We have to cope with enough narcissistic twits in real life.

Nicola I really didn't mind the book so much at first and enjoyed the mystery of Nick's situation. But the grand twist really wasn't that impressive to me, and I don't think Amy's character was nearly as clever as the author seemed to think. I despised the ending...it really felt like a non-ending. The author pushes us up against a wall and I'm ready to see what's on the other side, but then she's just like "Oh actually the wall was the ending the whole time :) aren't I clever?"

Stephanie A number of people said the movie and book ended differently, but the author, who also wrote the screenplay, says she kept the original ending.

While I wasn't thrilled with the book and kind of skimmed it, I did think that Ben Affleck did a great job in the movie. What bothered me the most is that it seemed as if the police would have had to be really slow not to be onto Amy after her supposed self-defense killing of her ex who "kidnapped" her.

As to whether or not she could have finessed the self-impregnation with Nick's sperm, I will leave that to others with expertise in that area.

I found it difficult to imagine that Amy would enjoy playing "mommy" for very long. While she isn't nearly as extreme, she reminds me of the mother in "East of Eden".
