kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I need to finish ACOMAF anyway so moght as well do it this TT (all for the pts hahaha).

Because buddy reads are 30 pts! Thats a lot of pts, and then you even get some people to discuss it with! Win win!

That is true!

Annalisa | 1573 comments Looks like I'm going to get Lilac Girls sometime later this week. It is the CD audiobook and its 17hours I'm not sure I will catch up with the BOM. The book version was a much longer hold.

message 204: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Mmhh might be a little hard to catch up with the BOM to read at the same pace as them but as long as you can still participate in the discussion here and there even while you're behind, it's all good :-)

It sounds like an interesting book! I hope you'll enjoy it!

message 205: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Me too, since it isn't one I would have picked out normally. I used to love reading the historical fiction genre, but I haven't been as into it recently.

message 206: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Mmhh, same for me. I used to read more of them and I regularly spy a few that get my interest but then I just don't read them.

message 207: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Same. I think looks good and add to my TBR list and then they always seem to end up being skipped over when I'm looking for a book to read. I've noticed I'm starting to feel that way about young adult fantasy which I was reading lots of. I've noticed they are all starting to feel similar. I don't have a shortage of books to choose from but it is interesting how I it seems like I'm swept up in a genre and then after a while I'm left somewhere and need to find a new genre or go back to an old one.

message 208: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I have so much to catch up on! Will take me a couple days to update everything but I'm excited! Hi snakeys!

Hmm, maybe we should see about reading a historical fiction in June or July? See if we can rope some more people from other teams into a BR?

message 211: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Sounds like a good idea. Any suggestions for a book? I've got a few sitting on my bookshelf from years ago that I haven't read. Empress Orchid and Tatiana's Key come to mind.

I wish they would let you reply to a message from the phone app but they don't. Also, links would be nice.

I knoooow, it's why I hate using the app. It's really terrible.

I'll do a compare books thing and see what pops up. Or I'll just browse your shelves. Will be back with a suggestion or two in a bit! :-)

LaurLa | 2378 comments Welcome back Stacie!!! Hope you had a fabulously great vacation!!!

message 214: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments My current book is going so slowly. It is interesting and I'm enjoying it, but it's moving kind of slow. I have other books I want and need to read, so I think that's playing into!

message 215: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments And by slowly, I mean that it's taking me more than 2 days to read ;-)

message 216: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Oh, oh, Annalisa, I saw you have the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews on your TBR shelf - read read read! They're awesome! Also, BRs for TT ;-)
Another series you have on your TBR shelf that is really good is the Black Magician by Trudi Canavan. I can only recommend it. YA but not quite the typical kind. It was well-written.

LaurLa wrote: "And by slowly, I mean that it's taking me more than 2 days to read ;-)"

Hahaha :-p

I'm going to finish up my Dead Witch Walking today, which picked up its pace more from the middle onwards though the beginning may just have seemed slow to me because I didn't get much reading time last week.

After that, I'll try to finish up Mockingbird as quickly as possible. Quite an interesting read.

message 218: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I read the first Kate Daniel's novel last year during Uno. It was slow for me, an I haven't gotten to the second. Urban fantasy often misses for me.

Second series I think you may have suggested last year during uno. So many suggestions on there I haven't gotten to yet.

message 219: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Quite possibly! I regularly suggest that one as it doesn't seem to be one of the more popular choices of series to throw around as recommendations.

Mmh, the first Kate Daniels is a bit slow with setting the world and introducing the characters and all but the series gets better and better. Then again, I love everything they write. The Hidden Legacy series was fantastic!

message 220: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Well GR seems to think we should be reading fantasy instead of historical fiction ;-)

The two books that popped out at me and that I also actually have on my physical shelf are Hello Stranger ad Moloka'i.

Other books I could suggest are: The Shadow of the Wind Labyrinth Nefertiti Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
The last one is also a BR here that Kathleen is participating in. Start date is, I think, June 22nd.

message 221: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Oh thanks for reminding me that Hello Stranger is out now. I'm going to see if I can put a hold on it my library. I'm open to most of the other books but since not on the computer I want to look when I'm not on the app.

message 222: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments And now I have a hold on Hello Stranger. Apparently historical romance the one thing I really enjoy still in the historical fiction genre. I think I will get it in by the end of the week. I've been really enjoying the Ravnel's series.

message 223: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Oooh awesome! I'm pretty sure someone will want in on that one. How long can you keep it for? Because I actually still need to read Devil in Spring *grin* but that won't be a problem. They're quick, entertaining reads. I like the characters.

message 224: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Most likely 3 weeks, 6 weeks if I renew it.

message 225: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
That'll be enough time, I think :-)

Shall I go post in the BR request thread to see if somebody wants to join book 3 and 4?

Annalisa | 1573 comments Sounds great.

Might as well try and get some BR points for at least one of them :-)

I'M in!

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Hi!! Vacation was lovely. I read a lot, drank a lot and did a lot of nothing. It was glorious. Good to come home to my fur babies but hard to get back into reality. And now I have to update all my challenges with the like 20 books I read this past week.

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Books since 5/12?

Yep!
Anything you started after the countdown went to 0 - midnight UK, so sometime in the evening for you on the 11th - you can use. If you want to be on the safe side, anything started from the 12th onwards.

I think I'm going to have to start making a list of what to read when hahaha.

I just signed up for June's BOM for Red Sister and volunteered for DQ. We'll see if I'll get them.

The book sounds quite interesting! I haven't read his Prince of Thorns yet, which has been on my shelf for years now, almost since it came out, oops, but oh well.

And honestly, could the paperback edition not have had a few pages more to push it past 500?? *shakes head*

Annalisa & Kathleen!

We have our reading partners for Devil in Spring (The Ravenels, #3) by Lisa Kleypas and Hello Stranger (The Ravenels, #4) by Lisa Kleypas :-)

Sally and Lisa from team Luna Lovegood are going to join. Well, Sally and I will be reading book #3 and then join you guys for book #4.

Start date for book #3 will be May 27th and start date for book #4 will be June 3rd. Unless Sally and I can't get to #3 on time, then we might push it back a few days, but we'll see when the date gets closer :-)

Stacie,

Sin at Sea doesn't show the same number of pages you mentioned in your completion post.
Is there another edition you could shelve? Or do we need to bug a librarian to fix the page numbers in case the page on GR has it wrong?

Eta: because the 152 on the GR page give us 5 points, the 168 you mentioned give us 20 points ;-))

It helps that GR shows who of your friends has marked a book as TBR ;-)

I'm keeping an eye out on the BR folder. As soon as the threads are up, I'll link them here!

message 247: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I also noticed a book I want to read The Invasion of the Tearling so I'm going to see about that. This would be all so much easier if the app had links for books and reply. When I'm at work this is the best I can do though.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I'm eyeing the Red Sister BOM too. I don't like the other BOM choice so I'll probably join though it might take me awhile. I swear I just need to get through the stress of this week and then Im home free.

Looking forward to Hello Stranger!

message 249: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Dang. I am not sure where I got that count because all I see is 153. Let me double check the book itself.

It only starts June 16th, so we have a bit of time before it starts.
