Ok cool!

Thanks for taking over the key task. Kathleen will be so relieved ;-)

message 2156: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments There's been a bit of a bust up in the captain's group and they have clarified that the YA square (Task 1 - Four Champions are competing) should be read by 4 different people.

There are widely different interpretations to how the task reads but as of a few minutes ago, Sonia's ruling was 4 different readers. I'm posting this now instead of waiting for Elderwen because I know it might be difficult to get this changed up at this point. Even if they changed their minds, it can't hurt for us to plan for them not to.

Our books were read by Cathy and Kathleen (dears that they are). Below is what they read. The easiest fix might be to just see if there are 2 other people who could read one of these. Barring that, are there some YA books anyone has read (or want to read) that might work? From the looks of it, the titles need to start and end with T or start with T and end with S.

Book 1 - Top of the Square -- This Raging Light (Cathy)
Book 2 - Left Side of the Square -- To Be Honest (Cathy)
Book 3 - Right Side of the Square -- These Shallow Graves (Kathleen)
Book 4 - Bottom of the Square -- Thick as Thieves (Kathleen)

I can take T-S for sure. Since I'm already in bed I can't check main book hoard for T-T option. That'll have to wait till tomorrow if needed.
If I'm going with that one, I'm 'releasing' ghost in title task for now. If it's still free, I might pick it up again :)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments If someone has a book that starts and ends with S, we can use that as well.

Book 1: To Be Honest (Cathy - already completed)
Book 2: (NEED Book starts/ends with T)
Book 3: These Shallow Graves (Kathleen - already completed)
Book 4: Truly Devious (V Nerd)

OR

Book 1: To Be Honest (Cathy - already completed)
Book 2: These Shallow Graves (Kathleen - already completed)
Book 3: Truly Devious (V Nerd)
Book 4: (NEED Book starts/ends with S)

We can move This Raging Light to Heart on cover.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Maybe Thick as Thieves can work for *book that has a story/tale within the novel*? Kamet (the MC) has been telling the story of Immakuk and Ennikar to Costis bit by bit while they were traveling up until they arrived in Attolia.

I believe that would work but should confirm with E (not sure how they treat subtitles).

Very true! I'd say use that ED author instead. That seems a little harder to find.

Oookay, lots of decisions haha ;-)

Room by Emma Donoghue - yes please! Use that for E.D. author initials. A white cover will be easier to find I think than those initials. Good catch, guys!!

Honestly, I'm iffy on using books with subtitles on the square. Technically it would work, yes. But after the difference of opinion yesterday (or today, for some of you ;-)), I'd rather stick to clear titles to avoid any further issues with this. (Sorry!)

The funny thing is that when I hear "gate" I immediately think of a huge entrance way, but I guess this would work, yes! It is a gate in a fence after all. ;-)

Sounds like it would work to me. It has a story within the novel that is being narrated, whether in one piece or in several pieces doesn't matter, as long as it is a story within the story.

Nice!

I thought that at first too but then saw this cover & thought it's smaller but still a gate so yay! I'll read this tomorrow once I complete my cauldron & relay books. Also found an audio with White in title.

nah, i kinda figured it'd be a bit risky :)

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas should fit for a book with a P and a J in the title, yes?

and since Kavitha's Room is delegated for E.D. initials, how is this Fear and Trembling by Amélie Nothomb for a white cover?

message 2176: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Hmm... you'd think it'd be white since geishas painted their faces white but it just doesn't strike me as white. It looks like a dirty white but not white enough? Does that make sense?

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas definitely works for that task! Also, I haven't read the book, but the movie was tear-inducing!
