Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Not sure how well I'll describe it but here goes -

In this book the "Great Prophecy" is introduced in which 7 demigods will have to come together to defeat someone in the end (I think it's giants?). And they refer to this quest in this 1st book as the 1st phase - they have to rescue Hera. This is only the 1st book in 5 books, and the next book introduces more of the 7 demigods, with I believe the 3rd where they start to come together.

I do believe it would work for this task as the Prophecy is what drives the actions of the characters.

So in typical Riordan fashion, whatever happens is all part of the big masterplan to fulfill one huge prophecy.

Sounds like it works to me, too!

Thanks, Cathy! :-)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments I should finish the hat, cottage & mermaid tasks tomorrow. Then can take the mirror, cat & cauldron tasks.

Annalisa | 1573 comments Incase we need to move things around. I'm pretty sure that Rosemary and Rue has a gate on the cove. I think one of the task covered by them currently might be easier to find than a gate on the cover.

Also, if someone reads a book with devil in the title The Devil in the White City could cover the task for white in the title. I think someone mentioned having a book with devil in the title at one point.

Sorry for not having links but on phone app.

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Hmm, Rosemary and Rue is a fence rather than a gate.

But yes, you're right. I think someone else did mention a devil book at some point.... Just can't remember who? That might definitely be a good option to have though!

good thing my vacation time starts on tuesday :p

message 2111: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments You are right that is a fence. I guess I was just really hoping it was a gate.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Julie Garwood's Ransom has a gate. Big gate if anybody is interesedt in reading that.

message 2113: by Kavitha (new)

Kavitha Sivakumar | 179 comments Is the 'curse' title taken? If not, I can read The Solomon Curse (Fargo Adventure, #7) by Clive Cussler

message 2114: by Kavitha (last edited Aug 22, 2018 08:14AM) (new)

Kavitha Sivakumar | 179 comments Also, I can read The Story of a Brief Marriage by Anuk Arudpragasam for white cover, if not taken already. Or is this not considered white? It is dull white, I know :)

message 2115: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I have curse in title and just started it this morning. Listening to How to Cheat a Dragon Curse.

It certainly isn't a brilliant white, but it could pass as a sort of dirty white?

I need a second or third opinion on this one, please! :-)

message 2118: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I don't think it passes, I'm sorry!

message 2119: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments This is I one I would Putin TinEye to emit doesn't look all that white. It is very close though.

message 2120: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments I agree... not really white. In an individual challenge I'd probably accept it but not for a team challenge :-(

The majority has spoken!

Sorry Kavitha! But please keep looking :-)

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments If somebody else has a book for keys on cover and wants to read for it, you're free to do so. I'd like to dnf mine if someone wants to take it. If none, then I'll trudge trlhrough it.

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
I'm sure we'll be able to find something else. No need to force yourself through a terrible book!

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments It's 500+ pages and I am notliking the MC!

message 2125: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Eurgh... not worth it.

A ~200 page book would have been over fast at least, but 500+? Nah, leave it.

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Oh, and if you happen to be in the mood for a quick fairy-tales book, head over to the Maze ;-)

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments 200 pages is okay but 500 is too big. i might pick it up again one of these days whem my mood is a little more forgiving ;)

ill check if i have short ones. do we get participation points for the maze? :D

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Oh but no decision yet what direction we're taking.

Doesn't matter, I think. And if we wait for someone else to weigh in, we're waiting until US wakes up again, which isn't for another few hours.

Kathleen wrote: "do we get participation points for the maze"

Every book read for the maze is a book that is also read for page points for the team.

It's a house effort - no individual points :-p

message 2133: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments I had to DNF my iron book last night. good thing I had backup choice.
and i remembered my ghost book might be little too spooky for bedtime reading. so I'm reading ghost during a day and switch to iron at night. i hope it'll work. i really don't need to be spooked and have nightmares :p

message 2134: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Hahaha ;-)

Lots of DNF books lately, what a shame! I know Stacie usually has fantastic luck with her books (hence the many 1 star reads :-p) but I'm surprised that you guys are having terrible luck now as well.

Fingers crossed replacement/future books are better!!

And no, we wouldn't want you to get spooked by a ghost haha ;-)

message 2135: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments as for maze, even if we pick wrong way, it'only going to be move or two. there isn't enough space for more than that :)
i think :p

Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod
not quite. though the walls did move when we thought we had an end in sight.

Mostly, we've all been enjoying reading The Castle of Otranto - gothic has come up an awful lot! - and swooning at the drop of a leaf in consequence! :)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Hadn't heard of that novel and went to look it up. Sounds like a fun, if a little creepy read!

Gothic isn't a genre we have been plagued by but we're haunted by the Travel genre...

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I can't find a short fairy tale.

we've had that a couple of times I think, but not too much, thankfully. We had a patch of horror, which seems to have passed now (phew), but lots & lots of gothic & fairytales. I did discover a niche sub-genre of erotic fairy tale retellings, which I was a little surprised by - live & learn!
