Alright, guys!

I have a little bit of information for you so: ATTENTION ATTENTION!

Buddy Reads, Spells & Classes:

These all end 31st July. Winners will be announced the next day.

This means:
All the Buddy Reads you currently have going need to be finished by the end of THIS month. So read, read like the wind guys and finish up all those Buddy Reads!

Specifically: If you were planning to read, or are in the middle of reading, a larger book to replace our current Astronomy books, it will need to be done for next Tuesday, the 31st.
Also, LaurLa, it means you need to get to Winter asap please. Thanks! (But I'm sure you have that somewhere on the list for your end of month reading anyway :-))

======

Book of the Month and points-per-page:

BOMs will continue until the extension, that is to say until 31st August.
Points-par-page will obviously continue until the end of the extension as well since that is the main point of Tower Teams.

This means:
Continue reading books, books, books. And since we won't get any BR points anymore, maybe a few more of you might be interested in picking up a BOM or two? ;-)

Specifically, to answer Cathy's previous questions, this means that we have until 2nd, 12th etc to finish this month's BOMs. Though if we can manage to finish them before, that'd be great.

======

Now for what we've all been waiting for hehe:

Tri-Wizard Tournament:

The Tri-Wizard Tournament starts on Harry Potter's birthday (incidentally, also J.K. Rowling's birthday), which is on 31st July. AND, no banked books will be allowed.

This means:
Tri-Wizard Tournament will be our aim for the entire month of August. We will get tasks and will focus on finishing books for those.

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments WHAT?!?!?! No more Buddy Read points??? WHY *cries*

Kidding. I've really been enjoying the Buddy Reads (& REALLY love the extra points). I'm sure the Tri-Wizard Tournament will keep us all busy so I'll just have to shift my focus.

& I will finish the Moon book before the 31st :)

Haha, I knooooow!!

It's a shame that Buddy Reads won't count anymore, but at the same time, I'm a little relieved. I'll stop overloading ;-))

I keep doing the same but now have to re-evaluate which ones take priority :) I'm now down to Harry Potter, Kate Daniels & 1 more that I wanted to read with one of my friends on another team. With 7 days left it'll be tight but I will do it!

message 1406: by Sanah (new)

Sanah Shabbir (szs_30) Wait, buddy reads don't count towards points anymore or do they not count if you are in the Tri-Wizard Tournament?

Tough decision!

KD is awesome!! HP gives more points ;-)

BR will count for points until the end of this month.

After that, they won't give points anymore for Tower Teams.

Basically, BOMs and Tri-Wizard Tournament will be the only thing we're doing in August.

Em (emmolga) oh no... and i was planning to read another thick book for astronomy, too. guess i'd better start today!

LaurLa | 2378 comments I will have Winter done this week. I've been reading a few chapters (well, more than a few) between other books for other challenges. Although it's getting to the point I have to force myself to stop. I'm not quite halfway but probably in a day or two I will just finish it out :-)

Sounds good, Em and LaurLa!!

I wanted to dive into Monte Cristo next month to finally finish it up - too many other books this month and not enough reading time - but I guess I'll just read it on my own instead of as a BR. Oh well.

message 1412: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I'm going to see if I can not get distracted by light reads and finish up three fantasy buddy reads by then. Almost done with one so I think it should happen.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Im going to cull my BRs and see what i can finish in a week. Im on a much needed vacay til august 3rd!

LISTEN UP!

We have something new :-D

Characters have been added to the game.

Follow the link and read up! If you have questions, feel free to give us a shout here and LaurLa and I will try our best to clarify :-) But I think it should be pretty clear as they're working, basically, the same way as the Spells we've had.

message 1415: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I've added letters for characters to my most recent completion post. I'm not sure I would remember enough to go back through and do that for the other books I've completed. I guess if we find that there is a letter that is really needed I can search. I'm sure I can find it in A Feast for Crows. That book has so many characters.

message 1416: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Also, I noticed that our creature didn't get named on the spreadsheet yet.

message 1417: by Eldarwen (new)

Thanks, Annalisa! That's a great help already :-)

Main and secondary characters only so don't worry about all the millions of characters from Feast of Crows. Most of them wouldn't really count as main or secondary anyway (unfortunately).

Dear Team,

I am going to have to be a pain again, sorry ;-)

It's been a while for a lot of these books, I know, but if you remember any U or X characters, please let us know!

There are quite a few of those pesky letters again that we need to spell out the character names and since we stopped tracking characters after Spells were completed...

If you have the time, feel free to go back and edit your completion posts to include some of the main characters you might remember. But the most important information we really do need are the U characters - those often aren't main characters for some reason, so not mentioned in the synopsis provided by GR ;-)

THANK YOU!

Thank-you for asking that E :-) I was afraid if I did it, I'd get things thrown at me!!

It would be really really helpful if you could try and back-fill your character names.. especially, as E mentioned, those pesky U, X, O and I letters.

Thank-you to those who have already done it!!! Much appreciated. Now I have to go do mine. Oye! That's a lot of books...

Annalisa | 1573 comments The Power is a strange book. I enjoyed the time I wasn't reading it, but was thinking about it more than when I was reading it. I'm glad I read it, but it was not a great book. In many ways it was unsatisfying. Characters where only slightly relatable and I vacillated between feeling ambiguous about them to disliking them. The idea was the best part of the book. I can't really recommend it, but at the same time I'm glad I read it.

Hmm, that's similar to what a friend of mine said and it's the main reason why I'm not sure I should read it. The idea really does sound good but everything you mentioned about the characters doesn't make me feel more inclined to read it.

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I went through my last posts in the read thread and posted all the characters I remembered/could find on GR. I know I posted at least one O and one I.

Annalisa | 1573 comments Another thing about The Power is that the ending was a bit weak. I liked aspects of it, but for the most part I wasn't satisfied with how it ended. I would have given it less stars than 3 but I was engaged by the idea.

The story that the author creates for the Zombies, Run! app is much more interesting and the characters are relatable. Also, it motivates me to get out and walk, jog, or run.

Haha, oookaaay. It's pretty sad though that the story for an app of all things is better than the one for a book. But at least you get some good motivation out of the app that way, which is a good thing :-)

Only 2 stars, Kathleen??
What happened??

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Hey, 2 stars is still okay. lol

The third book, I think, highlighted all the plot holes that were abound in this series. And seriously, that last war, let's not even begin. Especially that part where they were suddenly gathered around the cauldron... And yes... majority of the book looks like this- and this...

There were characters I would have really liked to see more of but if it means reading more Maas, then I would have to subtly decline. I don't like her writing style. It feels all over the place. My foremost example would be how she wrote Tamlin's character :) Glorious splendid hero, then bastard spineless creature in the next page. The abrupt shift of how she portrayed one of her main characters was, in my opinion, lazy writing. And some other small, but impactful details that I won't bore you with.

I am glad to be finished with this series. *sigh* I have a Throne of Glass that I need to finish and *another weary sigh* After this, no Maas for a long long while.

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
2 stars isn't all that great in my book hehe. I have yet to read this one, as well Tower of Dawn, so still have both to look forward to.

I was never really fond of Tamlin anyway. The glorious hero always looked like a facade to me, especially since he proceeded to cage Feyre "for her own protection". I know a lot of people argue that Rhysand is just as much of a bastard since he hurt Feyre at the beginning of their acquaintance in the first book etc, but, I still prefer him.

I enjoy Maas' writing though. Especially in Throne of Glass.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Oh, pffft, Rhysand is the sole reason why I decided to finish this series. I've always been a fan of bad boys ;) *ehem Barrons* I'm far from being Tamlin's fan but I just didn't like the portrayal of his transition of character was done. I thought it could've been written better.

I have yet to get chapter 2 in ToG. I have one whole week of nothing to do so I'm finally getting all my reading done. Planning on finishing ToG and The Archived by today, hopefully. I have 5 more BR books I need to finish!

Do we need The Luminaries?

message 1441: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
I haven't thought about Barrons in a long time... *sigh*

message 1442: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
ToG gets better with every book (though the beginning of book #3 dragged quite a bit). You might enjoy that series more.

As for Luminaries, no I think, we're good. We have gotten some decent points together for Astronomy and Cathy is reading another fat one to up them a little. Besides, I think we weren't sure about Luminaries being an object anyway, so... Concentrate on your BRs, those will bring us more points ;-)
Thanks!

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Has anyone read To Kill A Kingdom yet? *on the app cant link*

message 1447: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments That one looks interesting, but I haven't read it. I think I might need a YA break. As the last few I read I found myself being very critical.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I recommend Melina Marchetta's Lumatere Chronicles. Book 1 is Finnikin of the Rock. The series is sooo good and deserves more readers. 😊

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I see youre reading Shadowsong. I didnt enjoy the first book so Im making myself stop now and just move on to other books.

Annalisa | 1573 comments Shadowsong got put on the back burner until the challenge is over. I started it during uno. I did enjoy Wintersong. I think I liked the musical aspect of it. I know some of it is I read it at the right time.
