UPDATE

In case you haven't received the newsletter or haven't (yet) read it:

The mods announced that Tri-Wizard Tournament information will be available soon. (It's going to be crazy, but then, we didn't expect anything else, did we? ;-))

And due to the intricacies involved with this tournament, the third Quidditch match has been cancelled.

Thank you to all those who played in the first two matches and thank you to all those who volunteered to play in the final round!! :-)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Looking forward to seeing what the truth-wizard brings. I looking over the titles we have yesterday, before I got sucked into my book, and none of them jumped out at me for writing the history of magic. If no one else has anything tomorrow I'll take a closer look. By the the tri-wizard should be announced as well.

I hope you're right ;-)

I'm waiting for Tri-Wizards to be announced so I can start the BOM. Since only books started after the quests are announced can be used, I don't want to ruin the chance of it potentially fitting our tasks/quests/missions, since I already won't be able to read all that much this month, if this first week is any indication.

message 1205: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I haven't started all the buddy reads that started at the end of June for the same reason. Yesterday I picked a quick read and then started a second quick read. I'm hoping they announce before I finish, so I can start so of my longer fantasy buddy reads. I've notice lots of buddy reads have slowed way down at this point I guess I'm not the only one to over commit.

I thought I saw somewhere that we can use already read books for the team only parts, and that the "after it starts" is for the House wide part...

But I could well be wrong!

My BRs are kicking my ass! Well, mostly it's The Way of Kings that is defeating me - it is sooooooo slow, but I feel I can't read others until I conquer that one. help! :(

message 1208: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Ah, I may have read it wrong then? I thought it was for all parts!

I'll have to go dig that out again and see about those start dates.

Yeah, BRs and not a lot of reading time. I haven't even finished the June BOM yet :-(

Honestly, read something else!! While you keep going through Way of Kings. It'll make you feel like you're actually getting some reading done if you alternate. Of course, don't forget to read in it from time to time.
Not like I have with Monte Cristo. I know I still need to read it, and it's sitting on my desk next to me every evening, staring daggers at me, but.. yeah..

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Oh phew!! Cat, you were right! :-D

Only books started after the beginning of the last, i.e. third, quest for the tournament will be able to count.

But no start date required for the beginning of the tournament, i.e. the first two quests.

Not sure why I had it in my head the other way around. I could swear I read that somewhere. But oh well.

What would I do without you? We aren't even co-caps for this challenge and we still act like we are hehe. :-))

Annalisa | 1573 comments Still waiting on the announcement. This weekend is going to be crazy I think. Lots of driving so I'll be listening to a lot of A Feast for Crows. However, I probably won't have a lot of reading time. That's how it goes sometimes though. I going to try and keep the number of books I'm reading at once below 3 as I think I enjoy them more when I'm not switching and switching and forgetting.

message 1211: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
At least you'll get some decent listening time when you're driving around a lot :-)

I need to clean the flat, and to it seriously this time and not just fleetingly like last weekend. Going out with a friend tomorrow evening, but for the rest I really really hope that I will FINALLY get some actual and decent reading time. I want to be able to dive into a book for an hour or two, not be interrupted and just let myself be carried away by the story. *sigh* I'm already looking forward to that haha.

And on that note, I'm already going to gather my things in a bit to be out tonight as well. ;-) Girly night for a change, it's been a while.

message 1212: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Enjoy your evening. They are nice.

Ugh cleaning...I really need to clean as well. My orchids and other plants have been invested with bugs and I almost had gotten them all clean and then I didn't clean them for a few weeks and the bugs are back nasty little buggers. So that's my big cleaning project. Spray plants with soap and then wash them after soap dries and hope that it doesn't kill them. It was pretty hard on one of my orchids and it dropped all its flowers. :( My other orchids seem happy and put out flower stocks. I love when they bloom so I'm glad they seem happy.

Hope everyone gets some good reading time this weekend.

Annalisa | 1573 comments Maybe for history of magic...

The land is Caged in Winter, like she knew it would be, when they come for her. Before they leave the village traveling into the Storm's Heart, her mother kisses her One Last Time. The snow and ice cling to her hair, Red Rising in her cheeks until it burns. The men her lead her to the Sacred Waters, and make her drink. It is salty on her tongue. She wants to scream until the Magic Bleeds from her skin in drops of silver. She is the Stolen Songbird and only sings when no one is listening. Now even her reflection is listening and waiting for the dragon's daughter to sing.

Oh no, that's the worst when they get bugs and those nasty things don't want to stay away... I had an orchid like that once and no matter what we did, we couldn't keep them away for more than a day and it slowly killed the plant, so we had to throw it out :-( And it was such a beautiful one.

They are best when they're blooming, that's true :-)
I have one though that doesn't seem to want to give me flowers anymore though she grew me a second plant on one of its stocks after all the flowers fell off. Odd thing hehe.

...without the book links

message 1222: by Annalisa (last edited Jul 08, 2018 03:45PM) (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments After Sunshine's edits--I went in and moved things around a bit more. I am pretty sure I'm happy with it this time. I might actually turn this into something longer. I think I might for my first "History of Magic" paragraph as well. If we decided to use this, do you need me to list the books I used as more than links in the story?

She is the Stolen Songbird, a daughter of the dragon, and she sings for no one. When they come for her, the land is Caged in Winter. Her mother kisses her One Last Time before they take her into the Storm's Heart. The snow and ice cling to her hair, Red Rising in her cheeks as they walk away from the only home she has known. They lead her to the Sacred Waters, and make her drink. The salt wakes the dragon as she swallows, and she wants to scream until the Magic Bleeds from her skin in drops of silver. Her reflection in the water watches and listens rippling even when she is still. People gather behind her. She glares at the water her lips a tight line from which only silence falls. They will have no song.

Nice work you guys, I'm liking this start of a story! :-D

And yes, you should totally do something with this (and the previous one) and expand - NaNo projects!! ;-)

Nope, nothing more required than the book links so we know where they are and most of all which ones they are for when we add them to the spreadsheet.

Any objections? Any more tweaks? Anyone?

If not, I'll add it to the spreadsheet at the end of the day :-)

We have a mini update on the Tri-Wizard Tournament.

The evil genius are still working out the details (Sonia's words, not mine hehe).

This is what she said in the Leaky Cauldron:
"Anyway, we're discussing things in the background, and since what we have in store is so good, we're thinking about adding a couple weeks more to the challenge.

So... we need to know if you're on board with that idea.

Also, the resident little hobbit had this awesome idea to create a Durmstrang Institute and Beauxbatons Academy of Magic teams, just for TriWizards in order to allow for reserves to experience a bit of the magic.

Thoughts?"

What do you guys think? Would you be up for another week or two of Tower Teams?

Feel free to jump into the conversation in the Leaky Cauldron as well if you want. Or let me know here and I'll pass on the message whether or not you'd like to keep playing after the end of July for however long the mods decide to prolong, if an extension is what will be decided :-)

If you want to have a peek, the mods have added a few more award categories to the Current Points Spreadsheet.

Looks like we're in last place for pages read. Crazy, the amount of pages some teams have read!

We're doing pretty good on the BR front though at least :-)

message 1236: by Annalisa (new)

But YUS! Lots of pages from that one :-D

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Eldarwen, per Amazon, the book I read (Kissing Jenna) that had no page count at the time is 229 pages.

Not sure where you wanted that so I figured I'd put it here.

Annalisa,

for Seduce Me at Sunrise, the page number you mentioned in your completion post isn't the same as the page number for the edition you shelved. Can you check please?

Thanks!

message 1242: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments That is strange. When I made the post I opened to the last page of the book. There was an exert from another book and maybe that accounts for the extra pages. I really don't know what else it could be and I'm not sure which page number you want to use. I checked and without the exert it is 360 pages but with 376 pages.

message 1243: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Odd, but might be that the original MMP was published without the excerpt and that's where the difference in page numbers comes from.

I'll use the one for the edition shelved. Points-wise it doesn't make a difference anyway.

Thanks for clarifying! :-)

V,

Goodreads has been a bit of a pain again... Most of your recent read dates aren't showing on your shelf. Could you remedy that please?

Thanks!

Eta: Worth the Risk is showing up as read on 15th May... ?!

GR really doesn't seem to like your read dates/shelves hehe.

Eta2: Your read date for Tattooist has disappeared o.O

Tea,

I assume the page number in your completion post is a typo? ;-)
You doubled the wrong number.
If that wasn't the case, then there is a discrepancy - could you check pretty please?

Cheers!

message 1246: by V_Nerdbooks (new)

V_Nerdbooks | 5079 comments Ugh my goodreads hates me!!

Worth the wait was an ARC epub that i read in may, then i got the ARC audio that i finished on the day stated, so it would probably look like a reread

message 1247: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Can you change the date on your completion post to May 15th then please? Since, if it could be taken like a reread because you did both, we want to avoid issues and should go with the original earlier date.
(Re-reads need to have been read at least 6 months ago.)

message 1248: by V_Nerdbooks (new)

V_Nerdbooks | 5079 comments Shall i just change it to a different version?

message 1249: by V_Nerdbooks (new)

V_Nerdbooks | 5079 comments Acually did you still need an ARC?

message 1250: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Nah, we're good on the arcs, but thanks!

Don't need to change the version. We just need to settle on one date hehe - completion post and shelf needs to be the same. Since the shelf date is already on May 15th, will probably be easier to change the date on the completion post. Especially since GR seems to reeeaally love you these days. Wouldn't want that date to disappear as well haha ;-)
