I think that may be because you need to get your mind settled in the world, learn the background of everything and understand why Oasis is so important to so many people.

There will be lots of flashbacks and there is a lot of information given throughout but more things are happening.

Ack!! I will be updating Spells on Friday... so if you could wait on History of Magic, that would be great. We still have quite a bit to go with spells but I was running out of books last week and need to wait for more to come in.

We mostly need U and I, L also seems to be a difficult letter....

There are two I's in the newest batch for you!! :-)

I think we'll just leave History of Magic for next month. That way, whatever else we finish this month can go straight for spells (and Quidditch) and then we'll see what we still need next month and then maybe read specifically for letters still needed - and whatever the Tri-Wizard Tournament will bring.

Jamie, there was a BR thread set up for some time in June (can't remember the date) for The Black Prism. Did you participate by any chance? For some extra points? :-)

Also, did you enjoy the book? I've been meaning to read it but somehow never do.I absolutely Weeks' other series though.

Sunshine and Michelle,

please do not forget to check in from time to time, and if only by posting a completion post.

We haven't heard from either of you in over a week!

Thanks :-)

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments When is TriWizard?

message 1057: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
We don't have a firm start date for Tri-Wizard yet.

The last of the three quests may turn out to be a longer one that we can work on for the entire month of July though.

We might know more, or even start, within the next week.

message 1058: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I did a rough count and if we can get all of the books to fit somewhere we have about 71 books to finish Spells and Classes.

message 1059: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I don't know if anyone else has had problems but goodreads was down for a while yesterday. I didn't check on a computer but the app didn't work.

message 1060: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Goodreads was down for maintenance for a few hours yesterday, yes. On the computer, the page at least tells you it's maintenance and doesn't just give you an error message.

71 books sounds like a lot, but it really isn't all that much, divided over the team. We can totally do this! And then read a lot of extra books for page points :-) And Tri-Wizard hehe.

message 1061: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I was thinking we are very close to finishing.

I'm not sure why but the Tri-Wizard sounds a bit intimidating.

It would have been nice if the app have said it was down for maintenance.

message 1062: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Tri-Wizard might be a little nuts, but then, it's Sonia creating it, so I'm not expecting anything else hehehe.

But I'm sure it won't be as intimidating as it might sound :-)

Yes

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I'll try to bring down my BRs to a reasonable number first. I want to try playing as reserve for a few hour shift in Quidditch 😂 And when does NBRC not ever do crazy challenges? We love it anyway!

Hope to at least chuck one big book from my BR before TriWizard.

message 1066: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I've been making real progress on Ready Player One. I just needed to put aside all my other books and focus.

I have 2 buddy reads starting tomorrow, though. I have been trying really hard not to sign up for more but I can't seem to help myself.

It's sooo soo hard not to sign up for more BRs!! There are 2 more starting in the next week or so that I would love to participate in but I know just won't manage. Though I really, really want to hehe. That's when my inner child starts making grabby hands to get it aaaaall ;-)

Yay, cool! Next round won't start for another 2 weeks probably, since tomorrow Match 2 is starting and then there might be a week at least before the next one starts, so you've got some time to get through your chunkster(s).

message 1069: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments The inner child at the candy counter is having a hard time not joining two additional BR starting in the next two weeks. I'd like to finish most of the books I've got started (with the exception of A Feast for Crows) by next weekend. This will not happen if keep adding more books.

For Tri-Wizard only books started after it starts will count? If so that may be enough to keep me from over committing spectacularly on the BRs.

message 1070: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
I have no idea actually. Rules aren't up yet. But I assume that, yes, only books started after the quests start will count.

There's your incentive! ;-) Or you could join but start the books after the start date of Tri-Wizard hehe.

message 1071: by Annalisa (new)

I had serious heath issues to deal with while rolling out a company initiative for 34K employees globally. I’m a bit drained, but all is better now. Good drugs :)

I finished a couple of books and will post asap

It really isn't that hard once you imagine it as an actual ball game. Of course, that doesn't mean none of us mess up and get completely confused at times but it's quite fun, all the more now that the completely insane pace has been taken out of it.

Are you going to try your hand at the next match?? :-)

Yes! But it largrly depends on what dates it falls into. Hopefully, it would be an okay date for me.

Kathleen wrote: "Clarification... Keeper can only start reading for a Quaffle after opposing team posts a Chain line up?"

Correct.

For the first quaffle that is clear, since as keeper you don't know which books will be in the line-up. But for all the following quaffles, you can only start reading once the line up has been posted.

Chain or Quaffle line up?

message 1086: by Eldarwen (new)

Quaffle.

As Keeper, you don't worry about the chains. The only job the Keeper has is to dismantle the opposing quaffle.

message 1087: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I was able to finish more than I expected. I only have one unfinished buddy read. It should be a quick read.

I need to finish a book that isn't a buddy read next because I can't renew at the library. I have been reading Red Sister though. I'm enjoying it. A lot of my library books are due this weekend so I'm hoping to have a good reading week. It was a good weekend for reading.

message 1088: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Red Sister is a lot of fun! I still haven't progressed past the first section but that's because I got sucked into a different buddy read this weekend, that is luckily already finished, too.

Fingers crossed you can get all your books done this week! :-)

message 1089: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I keep wondering if I will want to join the BR for grey sister. I was also considering reading Rosemary and Rue one of July's BOM.

I noticed there are more points for BRs than BOM if you don't do DQ. If I have to pick one would it be better to read a BOM or a BR?

message 1090: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10095 comments Mod
who's making you pick just one? is it that meanie E? surely not - she's a book-enabler if ever I met one!

message 1091: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Your right about her encouraging. I haven't had as much reading time as I want and I know I can't read both at the same time plus the other 2 buddy reads starting on Friday.

It might be possible if I had more time. Can you add a few hours to the weekends?

message 1092: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
I plead innocence on all accounts!! ;-))

But yes, I do agree with Cat - who's making you choose one or the other? ;-)

Honestly, I would LOVE to be able to add a few more hours to the weekends!! Lately I feel like time is constantly running away from me. (And not just where my reading is concerned.)

If you have to choose though between BR and BOM, I'd go for the one you prefer reading. Unless there is a reward for most BOM participation per team, but I'd have to go check.

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments E & LaurLa,

I've noticed that some of my quidditch books aren't tagged as used (in quidditch) in spreadsheet. (from this post)
Just don't use them again ;)

message 1094: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Yikes!

I should really not update the spreadsheet when at work... will go remedy as I update with your new batch.

Thanks! :-)

message 1095: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments I really don't mind that they are not tagged, I just didn't want you two to be confused later. With all books you have to keep track off, you'd forget those were quidditch ones :)

message 1096: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Mhh, and that would be an issue!

It's always good when someone else has an eye on the spreadsheet every now and then because sometimes you just don't see the mistakes anymore :-)

Natasha | 1140 comments I saw this book Pancakes and Corpses (Peridale Cafe Mystery #1) by Agatha Frost was free on Amazon Kindle (through one of the many free and cheap Kindle book emails I receive) and thought it would be perfect for boom berry juice so I got it. It's listed as a cozy mystery on the main page and has blueberries on the cover.

message 1098: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Awesome!

Em was looking for a berry cozy mystery but her option was low on page count so she wanted to read something bigger. Since we haven't heard back since, I'd say go for it!

And I think fellow snake Louise from Bellatrix Lestrange recently read it and it wasn't half-bad either :-)

Unfortunately, Eliot's Waste Land can't count for TT as it is a poetry book.

message 1100: by Natasha (new)

Natasha | 1140 comments That's fine. I didn't know that. Half of it is poetry and the other half are literary essays if that makes any difference.
