The rating we give the book.

LaurLa | 2378 comments Water making spell: is this enough water? It's not an ocean but it's does have lots of water! I'll be reading it in a few days or ten ;-)

I like that one, LaurLa :-)

Haha, no worries. I already had to push back a BR because I can't keep up *dum di dum* - luckily we were all in a similar boat ;-)

How are YOU holding up with your gazillion buddy reads? :-)

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I will catch up this weekend. I just got back from a trip.

message 960: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I am so close to caught up with BRs. One problem though, I have three starting this weekend and when they do I'll be behind again. I'm not sure how you are keeping up.

message 961: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I'll be reading my dirt book today and then trying to read a bunch of books for the signing I'm going to in September so I know if I need to pre-order. I've got two BRs to do but Monte Cristo and I are fighting. I need to give it a fair shot...

message 962: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
I postponed tomorrow's BR to next Friday. I'll finish Ready Player One tomorrow latest (I have about 100 pages left). And I'm starting to finally move a little faster in Red Rising so I'm hoping to make a dent in that this weekend as well as in Monte Cristo.

BOM of Red Sister that starts on Saturday will be my main read for next week.

Aaaand, crap, there's another one starting on 20th hahaha. I almost forgot. Ah well, I'll have all of these books done by the end of the month, except for Monte Cristo.

Oooh signing?? Tell me more :-D

message 964: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Do give Monte Cristo a bit longer though before you give up the fight. It takes a while to get into, but once you start noticing more of the intrigues that are going around all over the place, it'll start being much more interesting.

message 965: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I promise to give it more chances.

I'm going to an Indie book signing in Philadelphia in September. Small scale, maybe 40 or so authors?

https://www.facebook.com/IndiesInvade...

It will be different from the huge one I attended in March (and will again next March) but I've also never been to Philadelphia so it will be fun!!

message 966: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Awesome! Little road trip at the same time :-)
And I don't think I've ever heard a single name on that list. Then again, Indie authors in the US so it seems logical I haven't.

message 967: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Exactly. Also, I haven't heard of a lot of them either but Harper Sloan is going to be there and the tickets were $12 so ROAD TRIP!

Going to the big one again in March and this time they have like 130 authors.

message 968: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Wooow, sounds like heaven to me!! 130 authors in one spot :-D
Do you have a line-up yet? Maybe I'll want to send you a book or two to have them signed *grin*

But yes, $12 for a book signing with 40ish authors, how can you say no to that?? And you never know, you might find an absolute jewel or two!

They are going to do a virtual signing again and this time you can get them personalized! If shipping is ridiculous, I am happy to do it for you. http://www.apollyconevent.com/authors/

A couple of my faves are going to be there this year. They lowered the limit to 3 but I have ideas on how to circumvent that.

Sarah J Maas!!

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Eldarwen wrote: "Sarah J Maas!!"

Your best bet on her is the virtual signing when it opens in September! She limits the amount of people who are allowed to see her because of her wrist issues so not everyone gets a chance.

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Will have to look into how that works. I love having a signed book hehe.

Because most authors don't come here to my tiny country, but some make the jump to the UK, I sent my copy of The Way of Shadows to a friend in the UK to get it signed by the author who spent a couple of hours signing books in Waterstones somewhere a few years ago. I was SO excited when she sent it back and there was a name scribbled in it haha.

V_Nerdbooks | 5079 comments Don't forget that #RARE19 will be next September E in London, there was about 150 authors when i went in Feb, so you can always send me your books, or pop over for a little weekend away :o)

message 974: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) If nothing else, you can use my address to have the book shipped here and then we'll figure out international shipping. When the virtual signing opens in September we can plot.

And one of these days I'm coming to visit over there because V keeps tempting me with RARE. There's one in Italy and Paris too. Jerky Europe. I should just move.

Annalisa | 1573 comments I'm going to need to find book summaries for the first three books in A Song of Ice and Fire series. I listened to a bit of the prologue for A Feast of Crows on lunch break and I have no idea who the characters are. I forgot just how big this world is and it has been at least 2 years since I read the last book.

That's handy to know!

I've only read the first one but it's been ages so I might have to refresh my memory before diving into book #2.

message 992: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Thanks. That will be very helpful.

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments I've been trying to start #3 but haven't been able to commit with all these other BRs going on!

message 994: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I've listened to them all so far. Roy Dotrice does a really good job with the narration. I know they tried to switch narrators because Roy Dotrice was retiring or something like that and people were very upset. I get why. Anyway with the audiobook I can listen when I wouldn't be able to read a book so it doesn't get in the way of BRs to much. I noticed that the last few books I've picked for BRs I have not been able to get the audiobook of so all my audiobook time is just for me.

Just finished Ready Player One - what a ride :-D

I'll write a completion post tomorrow morning when I have more brain power again. It's getting late and my headache is making itself noticeable again, so getting away from the screen and getting some shut-eye might be my best option.

(And yes, this is basically a note-to-self that I won't forget to write that completion post haha.)

One of my BRs down, yay! Red Rising is finally moving along faster as well, so hopefully I can finish that one off this weekend, too.

On that note... good night!

After some more fiddling while having breakfast, I present you with an

UPDATE!
This is what we still need to complete:

Care of Magical Creatures
We need ONE more part for our epic magical creature.
And then we need to NAME it. So if you have ideas? Let us hear them! :-)

Charms: Cheering Charm
We currently have a crying eye for the sad part. We need a fantastic counterpart for this to make the happy/cheerful part of this charm. Any ideas?
The Story of Us (Carnage, #1) by Lesley Jones
Natasha suggested a book (not sure you're going to read it since you're doing that awesome fire charm book at the moment?) but if you have other ideas, if she hasn't started yet - all ears! :-)

Charms: Fire-Making Spell
Natasha is reading a book with a woman holding a fireball in her hand.
Playing with Fire (Tales of an Extraordinary Girl, #1) by Gena Showalter
We need a similar cover with an empty hand, or maybe a round shaped something in a hand but no fire anywhere.

Divination
We need ONE more ARC.

Herbology
We need ONE more fluffy chick-lit book. It needs to be an actual fluffy, light read with a MPG chick-lit tag.

History of Magic
We have TWO options so far.
Would you like to pick: this one or this one or create a new one?

Potions
We still need:
- a book with a cauldron on cover
- a book with a scale on cover
- a cozy mystery with berries or juice on cover

Also:
LaurLa and Kathleen, you were going to read these books for Arithmancy:

800 - 900 --LaurLa Winter
over 901 -- Kathleen The Count of Monte Cristo

Please let me know these are still doable for you. If not, then we can slowly start looking for replacements. Thanks!

On another note:
Astronomy is technically finished. BUT we have two doubles for celestial objects and it would be cool if we could replace them (which means no star/moon/sun/Neptune). AND it would be great if they could be fat books. I just noticed how little points The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy gives due to its small page number so it would be nice if we could find a bigger replacement for that one as well (sorry Natasha!).

=====

Congrats!! Defence against the Dark Arts and Transfiguration are completed!
(And a lot of others are very close to being completed as well!)

I'm reconsidering our current levitation charm though.

I don't think it's a good combination. Birds fly anyway, so why would you use a levitation charm on them?

Hit me with ideas, people! :-)
