Oh don't worry about it!

Happens to the best of us :-)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) My wing book is a no go. It was awful and I had to give it up at 26%. Slooooow and boring

message 904: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Oh no.. that's not cool!!

We'll use something else then, no worries :-) We have a few things to choose from so I'll see what we can mix and match to get the creature done. Maybe even tonight already. I think we have enough animal parts to cover the entire creature.

Natasha | 1140 comments So I was looking at the charm spells and had some thoughts. For the fire making spell, how much fire is sufficient? I have this book available Firespell (Dark Elite, #1) by Chloe Neill to borrow. If we have/read a book with an unlit candle, do you think that would be fine for fire making?

For the cheering charm, is this happy enough? Seriously... I'm Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres Or should the person be laughing?

message 906: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
For the fire making spell, I'd personally go for something bigger than just a candle, something that is also more visible on the cover.

For cheering, yes, I think she looks pretty happy, like she's laughing quite a bit on that photo.

I don't remember seeing a cover with a sad person, but I'll go through the covers again to see if we happen to have something already that could be matched to it.

Water-Making Spell

Fives and Twenty-Fives by Michael Pitre --> Fatal Chaos (Fatal, #12) by Marie Force

(I'll see what else we might have.)

message 908: by Natasha (new)

Natasha | 1140 comments Ok. I'll see if I have something bigger on fire!

message 909: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Oooh oh, how about this??

Heaven in Hedonism (Sinful Series, #3) by Emma Nichols

Would you have a book with a similar drink/glass on cover without the fire?

Hmmmm, I did find an option for fire, though it isn't a huge thing, but could be an option if you don't find anything, Natasha.

Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews --> Scourged (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #9) by Kevin Hearne

Sword on fire. Though yeah, not all that visible.

message 912: by Natasha (new)

Natasha | 1140 comments I looked to see if I had anything with a glass without the fire and this is the closest book I have Coming Apart The State of White America, 1960-2010 by Charles Murray .

I'll check for things on fire.

And just as a note, these all ebooks that are currently available to borrow through my library. Once I'm in actual library, I may be able to find more books that fit.

message 913: by Natasha (new)

Natasha | 1140 comments I put a hold on this (I'm the only hold on it so far) Playing with Fire (Tales of an Extraordinary Girl, #1) by Gena Showalter . If we have a cover with an empty hand, would that work for fire making?

message 914: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Absolutely!!

I'll see if we already have something, otherwise I'm sure we'll be able to find a book to go with this - would be a shame not to use that for the fire-making spell.

Way to go, Natasha!

How about this for our magical creature?

The Vine That Ate the South by J.D. Wilkes - cougar head
The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan - dragon body
Burn Bright by Bec McMaster - firebird wings
Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy, #1) by Robin Hobb - antlers

And then we'll need a fifth book. Will rummage around some more tomorrow or maybe pick up a Pegasus book for a nice tail for our creature. Though I won't read that until I'm done with my current 2 reads and have the next BR and BOM finished, too ;-)

message 924: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments We must be getting close to done with the classes.

And that book does look orange to me. Mangos are often orangish.

message 925: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Yes, we are getting close!

Divination needs one more arc - not sure anyone is currently reading one?

Transfiguration needs one more year completed - and we have enough books to cover that one, I just need to take some time tomorrow to go over covers and find a fun/interesting combination. If anyone has ideas, feel free to give a shout!

Astronomy and Defence against the Dark Arts are both done. We can always switch out books in astronomy though if we want to remove the doubles. But, in essence, we have all books read for both those classes.

Herbology is aaaalmost done - Stacie only needs to read her dirt book and we need another fluffy chick-lit. Actually... STACIE, your latest chick-flick MPG, is it a fluffy read?? I wasn't sure from the synopsis.. if so, then we also only need one more book for that class.

Potions is moving along very nicely, too! Care of Magical Creatures is just about done.

And that leaves us with Charms. I'm sure we have a few books lying around to complete some of them. But again, I need to take some time to go over the covers in more detail.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to type out a novel haha.

message 926: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) That one wasn't very fluffy. I do need to hit the dirt one. A bunch of books came in from the library so I'm trying to knock those out. I think I read something fluffy since TT started though...

Nothing with an MPG of chick lit but definitely some fluffy books.

message 928: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Mmh library books go first before deadlines run out :-) I used to rush-read my books on Tuesday evening / Wednesday morning back in school hehe. Library books were due back late on Wednesday morning (we could sneak out of our classes to go to the library, so cool!).

The dirt one will be a snack for you haha.

As for the fluffy, we'll find something I'm sure. I'd just like to cover the bases and have a fluffy book with chick-lit MPG. There's no rush, we still have 1 1/2 month to read our books for the classes.

Congrats to team Cedric hehe :-)

you made me up my game!!

we've no celestial objects yet though :( I'm being super mean, and wanting 500+ pages if I can get them, so I think the whole team is on strike over that set of tasks!

Ah well, we're doing well on Transfig and Charms is coming together too, so I'm not complaining

message 933: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Hehe, that is a pretty hard set of rules, but I'm sure the team will pull through sooner or later on the astronomy class even if they have to be doorstops ;-)

We've filled all of those for now but will be switching out if we find different/better/bigger options.

Transfiguration is fun hehe.

yup! I've lined myself up for a couple of HUGE ones, and as two of them have just read Count of Monte Cristo, I'm not toooo stressed!

we've got a gorgeous cat into a gorgeous man, and - which tickled me - a van tyre into a doughnut :)

I nearly turned a car into a mammoth, but decided I'd rather have the mammoth trunk / tusks on my beastie :)

message 935: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13646 comments Mod
Hahaha tyre and donut, nice one!!

But yes, the tusks would totally be cooler on a crazy magical creature than as a car, though that idea has merit ;-)

We turned one of the Pretty Little Liars's "perfect" but creepy dolls into a giggling raccoon heheh.

Ah yes, Monte Cristo. I am SO behind on that one, though I'm back to reading a few pages every night, and if it's just 5. 5 pages is better than 0 pages.

I saw that - rather than use the title for cheering charm?
Though I do prefer the transfiguration :)

Yeah... I know... I'm going back and forth over that one (and a couple of others).

There are a couple of things that will change once I go over everything yet again - I keep getting distracted when I want to do it more in-depth haha (sometimes I'm surprised we got this many books slotted in already with my tiny attention span for going over books these days) - but we'll see what we'll do.

Could it have the eyes from The Story of Us (Carnage, #1) by Lesley Jones ??

Didn't realise until i was half way through the book that it was an eyeball crying lol

I saw an artistic heart haha, but I also didn't enlarge it.

Buuuuut, instead of using it as an eyeball for the creature, how about using that for the cheering spell? Sad cover with a happy cover?

Idea for either summoning or banishment charm:

Stolen (Cinderella's Secret Diary, #2) by Ron Vitale <--> The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict

Single woman with/without suitcase in a similar position even.

Levitation Charm done
Mending Charm done
Summoning Charm done

Cheering Charm and Fire-Making Spell are in the works.

I still need an answer for Water-Making Spell. Fives and Twenty-Fives by Michael Pitre --> Fatal Chaos (Fatal, #12) by Marie Force ??
Or do we have a better water book? Needs LOTS of water, preferably an ocean that takes over most of the cover.

Care of Magical Creatures

What rating do we want to give our beastie? Dangerous? Not so dangerous? Harmless?

Ministry of Magic (M.O.M.) Classification
XXXXX – Known wizard killer / impossible to train or domesticate
XXXX – Dangerous / requires specialist knowledge / skilled wizard may handle
XXX – Competent wizard should cope
XX – Harmless / may be domesticated
X – Boring

message 946: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) If we can hold out for a better water book, I think that it would be cool to get one with a whole cover of ocean.

What do we need to do for the rating? Is it just we pick or do we have to read more for it? I kind of like the idea of XXXX

Just fyi, Wonderstruck is a no-go, but that was pretty clear due to the graphic novel tag. I just asked because it was a half-half book, but the tag prevails and since rules say no graphic novels... Sorry! :-)

The classification we want is basically the rating of the book. And I think we have pretty much at least one book of every rating floating around. So we can complete the classification right away, just need to decide what we want.

So if we want to go for a XXXX classification, we'll use a book with a 4star rating for that task :-)
(I like XXXX, too)
