Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion
Tower Teams VI

Team Severus Snape
The third book does sound interesting, but it's another WWII story, and while I do enjoy hearing about the real ones, they're often books I take a lot of time to read and.. I'm often reluctant to pick them up.

Sure thing!!
Sure thing!!
Decision time again ;-)

All of these are 500+. Which one do you think would be best for our brown cover task?

Option 1 is definitely a good idea! Needs a little more fluffing up to make it an actual essay but definitely workable :-D
Would you mind giving us a few more options..."
Does it have to be longer? One title per sentence? I thought it was minimal use of other words and making sure titles connected smoothly... like title poetry. Coz this thing was pretty popular with bookstagram.
Doesn't have to be, no. Can be as short or as long as we want. An essay, or a story of some kind. Poetry will work, too.
Just needs to make sense and be creative :-)
(Probably should have added that for that particular Dear Emily sequence, I would have fluffed it a little to make it more dramatic and give it an extra flair.)

I think the second option is best. Not sure the 3rd one is quite 50%

I just started listening to last Iron Druid and lady sees a future using patterns of curdling and coagulation while making cheese *laughs out loud* (she is tyromancer)

Aahh... what??? Do I want to know what on earth Atticus is getting up to in that book?? ;-)
But no, as it stands, we don't need any more divination tools. Those slots have all been filled! :-)
Though it never hurts to add the information haha. It might just be too good not to use :-p
(Besides, if we end up switching things around, it's always good to have options!)

When Darkness Comes, The Emperor's Blades sing and magic flairs Down Among the Sticks and Bones. Thus began our dark years. Wildfire ragged and Every Note Played called the armies. Many years after the darkness fell, a small child raised a hand pointing at the sky. She called out an old nursery rhyme passed down from mother to child, "Star light, star bright, First Star I See Tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, Have this wish I wish tonight." And with that wish The Darkness lifted.

Added it to my shelf.

Would you mind continuing with that story? ;-)
(Do you do NaNo?)"
I don't know what NaNo is...I guess that answers that question. As for continuing the story I have no idea where it would go, but I will certainly think about expanding it. If I did I'm sure I would change the opening...about 10 more times.
Haha, yes, that's usually what happens. Changing beginnings a million times and then still not being happy about it ;-)

found little error in spells - under U in Imerpuis you have Madeline Urban as character but that's author :)

Just realized you might have meant National Novel Writing Month? If that is what you mean, every year I tell myself I'm going to do it this year and then I don't. I would like to though.

You should definitely try it at some point.
It's crazy but it's fun :-)

I'd be curious to hear about it. I wonder if I'd have enough time to do it and keep working and having any kind of life.

Thanks - I'll double check them.

I have!
It's doable despite work and having a life. Not always easy because sometimes life does get in the way, but doable.
I've had years where I had a lot of time at work, so I snuck in a lot of writing time at work and just typed my daily quota there and had my evenings to myself, or to write some extra words to have a little buffer. I've also had years where work did not let me write at all and I wasn't getting a lot of words written in the evening where I pushed myself over the weekend to catch it all up on those two days. I'm a fast typer, which helps sometimes hehe.
The community is huge and crazy but it's an interesting challenge for those who like writing. The one thing you should not do though is dwell too long over what you've written and just keep going, and not edit - unless it's to go back and add a scene because you had an awesome idea and want to put it in the correct order, but no removing, no perfecting etc until you're done.

LaurLa!
Fuel for Fire has a man on the cover that you'd like to transform into a pig *grin*
We do not have a pig at this moment but Jamie just finished a book with a bunch of animals on it. Maybe one of them catches your fancy?? :-)

Astronomy Class Completed
Well done, team!!
As it stands, we have two books with "moon" and two books with "star(s)". If you're reading a book with a title that contains a different kind of celestial object, we might switch those out so that we end up having 7 different objects used for this class.
The doubles will then be used either for a different class or for spells.
Nice work!! Keep it up :-D
(A few other classes are close to being finished as well.)

Fixed that one since I'm tinkering with classes just now anyway. :-) Thanks Tea!

Also for Fantastic Beasts it qualifies for 40 BR points - Sonia's message #40 on the What's Coming thread (sorry can't link right now).

Don't dwell to long over what you've already written...I think I've heard that before many many times. I started out writing mostly poetry, dwelling over each word is important there. That transferred over into the short stories I eventually started writing. I can normally write about 10 pages before I get the urge to go back and fix that sentence that I wasn't liking. And once I'm in edit mod there is no getting me out. I think that would be the hardest part for me. I'm going to really think about participating this year. It seems like it would be fun, and I really do enjoy writing.

Was just putting it out there as an idea! If a great cover pops up of something truly worthy of turning a man into, we can go for it...
Hello and welcome to the team, Em! :-)
Please link your TT shelf and if you have any questions, feel free to ask :-)
All important links and information are on the first page of the team thread.
Once you have a few minutes, please update our Books Read Thread with completion posts for all your books started and finished since the beginning of the challenge, i.e. every book you've started on or after May 12th. Thank you!
Eta: Oh, and put them on your TT shelf as well, of course. :-)

Here's my shelf tt-vi
This is my first time doing Tower Teams but I'll try my best to catch up with everything going on. Is there anything I should know about before I pick up my next book?
Meanwhile I'm gonna try to have my completion post put up by the next couple hours :)
On the classes tab on the spreadsheet, you'll see what kind of tasks might still be open so you could pick up a book for one of those.
On the classes tab on the spreadsheet, in case you prefer not to work with tasks, you'll see what kind of letters we'll need for spell-outs. LaurLa gave us this recap of letters (lots of vowels!) that could come in handy:
A 11
E 10
I 14
N 7
O 16
P 7
R 9
T 10
U 10
Otherwise... any fat book is always good hehe, those give extra points for pages.

Hey Em,
could you please tell me which of the editions for What Einstein Didn't Know: Scientific Answers to Everyday Questions is the correct one?
You shelved this one with 240 pages:
but on the books read thread you posted this one with 168 pages:
.
Thanks! :-)

That might potentially be an idea cover-wise, but I'm awaiting confirmation by the mods whether we can even use Wonderstruck.
Unfortunately the book has a graphic novel tag, which technically makes it invalid for this challenge. Seeing that it seems to be an odd hybrid of half writing, half drawing however, I wanted to double-check with them.
On a similar note, poetry books unfortunately are not allowed, so we will not be able to use your poetry book. Sorry!

If not this weekend, then the next, I'll do another browse through what we have (and what LaurLa left over after the spelling spree hehe) and then I'll give you another update if some of you want to read for something more specific.
