the first two letters are in unforgivable curses
the third in standard value
I can also take an X

Spell Rules have been updated
For X, V and Y only, if you read the audio, you can use the narrator name too. Ditto translators, for translations
Note: this must be applicable to the edition you read - if you didn't read the audio, you can't use the narrator. If you didn't read a translation, you can't use a translator!
It's gonna be REALLY important to shelve the edition you read for these cases!
Less than 30 mins to go! So that's my cue to get ready for tomorrow & go to bed!
Happy reading everyone - this evening to lovely US peeps & in the morning to the EU contingent
(and I am meaning EU in it's continental meaning, not political meaning! ain't no one got time for EU politics, frankly!)

I probably won't read super organized, ie to just meet challenges, not in the beginning at least. I have a couple of pages left on my current read then I'll see what to pick next. Hm.

I was confused about whether we started today or tomorrow, until the countdown came out. Happy that it's today though. :)
Sarah, I was exactly the same! Midnight 12th in my head meant going from 12th to 13th!
But all clear, and full speed ahead with the reading! Now I need to pick a book!

Nah, I would have thought the same thing.
I've got one book done. Will add it to the completion thread later on. Great start, guys! :)

Just to double-check:for the completion thread, is it enough if I list the letters the book could work for and then put actual character names on the spreadsheet?
Watching Eurovision! So far, I love Lisbon & Portugal, but none of songs so far!
The best singer / song noise was the Austrian. Sadly the content was stalker psycho, and the outfit (wipe clean rubber) made me fear for my life! (song had repeated line of "never going to let you go". Not very #MeToo)

Absolutely hunky-dory by me!

Cat, maybe you could save the google docs link to the beginning of the completion thread for easier access. :)

Onto reading Wildfire. Will work for quite a few letters including "V".
@Melinda, good idea! Can you wait till I get home tonight, or are you going to make me try and do it on the phone?!

Today is Mother's Day here in the US, Happy Mother's Day to all mommies on the team!

Link to our team tracker, where you can add (or not) your book info - as well as reporting in the thread!
We've had our official sheet now - it's got some really fun looking insanity on there! Sonia's still tweaking the info, so some of the class requirements are a little bit opaque right now, but, if you wanna look at the thing of beauty, and check out the classes, it is here
I'll look at transferring some of the info into our team tracker too (or maybe the other way around....) in a slightly more accessible format,

So, there are 112 class related tasks, which I've put in a list for reference, in the tab "Classes: Task Info" - numbering them too.
I'm not sure if I explained that books can be used for only one of the mini challenges - either Spells or Classes or Quidditch or Tri-Wizard.
If you want to shout out & grab a class task or two, go ahead!

It could also work for chick-lit/fluffy books for Herbology

I am not sure i understand the classes and how books work yet but i will take another look when i have more time
Marie, don't worry about it. We'll get more info from Sonia soon about classes, and then we can work it out!
Excellent re Lilac Girls!
Melinda, that's fab! Especially the ARCs :)

Excellent, Emelie!
And you bring up a good point re tactics.....
I'm thinking that, with the exception of tricky letters (X, Y, U), we prioritise the Classes requirements - trying to use books for those tasks first.
Then, if we can't use for a Class task, use it for a Spell-Out.
Does that seem sensible to you guys, in principle?

I'm reading:
- which is pink cover (potions, assuming the guess re the tasks there is right) or broken glass on cover (for Mending charm)
- no obvious class task fit right now, but has a Vanda character, so I'm not sad about it!

Cat, you have my support whatever you decide. :)
In this case, as soon as we have all the tasks specified, I will check whether my 2 books already completed could fit anywhere.

That sounds good to me. With the spell outs, we risk penalty if we can't finish them while I can't see that it'd be the same if we can't finish all years in one class so it seems sensible to fill those up firstly, if possible.

- Depending on the actual tasks: maybe levitation charm could work for either, as one of the characters can lift buildings/cars/ etc. Let's see.
- Same for Water / Fire spell: several characters can "summon" water / light fire
Looking at the formulas in the main sheet:
Points only on full completion of all subject requirements:
Arithmancy
Astronomy*
Points only when sections are complete:
Care of Magical Creatures: the two sections must be complete to get points, but if we only finish one section (e.g. the "tell us more part") we still get those points
Charms: each charm must be complete with 2 books, but if we only do three charms (6 books) we get the points for those three.
DADA: each year needs to be complete
Diviniation: each section needs to be complete
History of Magic: each section needs to be complete. The Essay is a whopping 50 points!
Potions: equipment & ingredients need to be complete for points. Brewing (all the colours) doesn't.
Transfiguration: each pair of books for the year needs to be complete
No constraints:
Herbology - all completed books get points, with no minimums or constraints!
*Interestingly it looks like Astronomy books are scores by page count. So really we want chunksters there! Elsewhere it just seems to be by book, not pages

oh, and Arithmancy books will be the last we fill in - the points are linked to the total number of books read, so I'll use books with no other benefit (Spells etc) there. Just so long as we cover off all the page ranges we'll be OK there!
ETA: well, maybe we'll fill in the higher page count ones, to be safe!

Marie, I discovered there's a buddy read of Circe planned - it's here Starting 25 May.
I noticed you've got it as a to-read....

Oh, I could be doing that as a buddy read too. I'm debating wether to sign up for one of the HP's that start tomorrow I think, this one, or Wuthering Heights.
Edit: I signed up to read the first HP book to begin with. Thinking of tackling either Circle or Wuthering Height too probably!
I read 1 & 2 for Cutthroat - so Jan 2018.
that's the problem: HP basically works for most tasks!
For instance, is this a brown cover?

I totally agree!
Happy Monday, guys... :P

Cat: Hm... I don't think I'd pin that as a brown cover. I was figuring it had to be more overall brown.
Yeah.... I'm not entirely convinced either.
BTW, I am notoriously bad at colours, so someone else will have to be final judge on anything I bring to the table!

You never know if you are going to get mad-tineye or tineye-[spoiler] though!
The number of times I have vehemently disagreed with tineye doesn't bear thinking about! Not even mentioning when it has a personality change itself!
