They are cozy mysteries set in Virginia. The MC has a cat named Mrs. Murphy and a dog named Tucker. When things happen in the town, the cat and dog pretty much figure out the clues and try to lead their owner to the answer of the mystery. The animals "talk" to each other quite a bit. I think they are kind of fun... not the best cozies, but not bad either.

I ended up with a stack of them from a library book sale. Of course, I don't have all of them and end up skipping around in the series.

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 5922 comments i am here and reading i might be able to do picture on cover but it is number 3 in a series and i would have to read number 2 first

message 1010: by Katie (new)

Katie | 1634 comments I'm here! Caught up from Quidditch, enjoying this last bit of downtime before the school year starts and ready to read. I'm going to check out the team (unofficial) sheet and see what I can help with. :)

Katie: Vow in title! Lost in title! Prophecy in series/title!
snake on cover! (two!)

message 1012: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2131 comments I'm here, still reading. I seem to keep getting derailed by the maze...

Just finished the cauldron book, will post in a bit. I did get the hold in from the library for The Lost Symbol, so I will read that in a few books time. But definitely before the end.

message 1013: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod
I'm very happy for you to play in the maze :)

hurrah for cauldron!
hurrah for lost!

message 1014: by Katie (new)

Katie | 1634 comments I'll claim a couple now.

Vow: A Biker's Vow - 129 pages
Lost: Lost and Found Sisters - 400 pages

That's it for now. I'll see what's left after I finish these up. :)

message 1015: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2131 comments I don't mind if Katie reads for Lost. She'll be done before I will, and I was reading it anyway. It'll fit for something, or characters.

message 1016: by Katie (new)

Katie | 1634 comments Oh! Sorry Sarah! I didn't read the messages past Cat's list of tasks. I can just take that one off my list and look for a snake. :P

message 1017: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2131 comments Nah, it's ok. Unless you have any snakes, which I am lacking.

Lol, the weird sentences that come out in a challenge...

message 1018: by Katie (new)

Katie | 1634 comments Lol! I do not have any snakes, but I'll look for something. One of them is 'or in title' so I might have more luck with that one.

Melindam | 8289 comments Dear All,

I am back! :)

my son is a lot better and so am I (I also caught the virus off him, though it wasn't quite that bad as for him).

I managed to read 2 books for

- someone goes on trial
- MPG crime

I will put the books on my TT shelf and will report them in the thread shortly.

message 1024: by Melindam (last edited Aug 21, 2018 12:55AM) (new)

Melindam | 8289 comments Currently I am reading The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side by Agatha Christie which will work for HP&DH 4.4 - "Mirror in the title"

message 1025: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8289 comments I can also read Death in the Clouds (Hercule Poirot, #12) by Agatha Christie for HP-PoA, 5.3 "Death in the title".

message 1026: by Katie (new)

Katie | 1634 comments Finished "Vow" in title...working on "Lost". I'll report my outstanding books later today.

message 1027: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 5922 comments I am currently reading Mercer Street so that i can then read Indiana Belle for picture on cover after that i will take aloof see what i can do.

What are thoughts on the chain of books I could probably read something to fit that

message 1028: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod
I've not thought about the chain nor the YA square yet.

We need four people to read for the chain, but there's no restriction on the square, except for the YA MPG requirement.

Does anyone want to volunteer to work on the relay? We need to read books where the last word of the first title is the first of the second title (and articles DO count). When we've got our four volunteers we can start shuffling books! :)

message 1029: by Katie (new)

Katie | 1634 comments I can help with either/both of those.

Elena | 1403 comments I'm up for it!

Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod
Excellent!

FYI, books that have already been read but not yet used are:

TITLE CHAIN
Marie: Ghost Boy / Your Closest Friend / The Liar in the Library (the latter two most likely to be first position books, as not many titles will end with Your or The)

Cat: All Systems Red.
I'm also in the middle of Artificial Condition

YA SQUARE
Amy: Game (which I could see being useful on the bottom of the square, with a book title ending in G and one ending in E)

btw, for the square, the title lengths don't have to be the same. It's more a YA Quadrilateral! ;-P

edit: oops, wrong person against Game!

message 1032: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8289 comments Would My Lady Jane fit into the YA square?

message 1033: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod
We can certainly see if we can work it in!

If we used Game on the bottom, My Lady Jane would be the RHS of the square, meaning the top of the square would have to end in M. Which isn't out of the realms of doability :)

message 1034: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod
I read My Lady Jane for quidditch - it was fun! :)

message 1035: by Elena (new)

Elena | 1403 comments I can read Delirium and we'll just need a D----G title for the LHS :)

message 1036: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod
this'd fit : Daughter of the Pirate King

got some good ratings

message 1037: by Elena (new)

Elena | 1403 comments Found these also: Dreamland Burning and Darius & Twig

For relay:
Death of a Ghost -> Ghost Boy
Ghost Boy -> Boy Nobody
All Systems Red -> Red, White, and Blood/ Red Moon Rising/ Red Mandarin Dress

message 1038: by Amy the book-bat (new)

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) | 914 comments working on a cat on the cover for today. will possibly be able to do the other cat book tomorrow after I get home from taking my son to his appointment

message 1039: by Katie (new)

Katie | 1634 comments Finished "Lost" in title.

I have Nobody Looks Good in Leather Pants (or bowties) to tack on the first relay. We could always put an "In Death" book at the front. If somebody here is into those...

message 1040: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod
Elena can’t read both Death of ghost & boy nobody though. :(

I don’t mind doing an In Death book

Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod
Or I can find a book that ends in ghost

Which would give:

Cat - Michelangelo’s Ghost. (Death of a Ghost not on uk ku :( )
Marie - Ghost Boy
Elena - Boy Nobody
Katie - Nobody Looks Good etc etc

message 1042: by Elena (new)

Elena | 1403 comments Death of a Ghost is on Kindle Unlimited, we just need a volunteer :)

message 1043: by Katie (new)

Katie | 1634 comments Looks like it should work. Should I start on that, then?

I'm still making some progress, but I don't think I'll finish.
21 BB tickets makes me hopeful for a task anyway though!

I've not looked at the new season yet - way too much to think about with TT and finishing off the Summer SRC ;-/

I've just started Song of Achilles, and am loving it!

I am being strict with myself next season ONLY books i have or can get from library / KU I need to get my TBR down. That is except for seasonal read I bought Zorro for 1p plus postage

Zorro <3

Though I've never actually read that book. I really should!

That is a really good plan though to only read books readily available to you in order to get your TBR down. It's something I've been attempting this year as well. I'm semi-successful haha.
