Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion

I am also going on hols from tomorrow on with scanty internet so please forgive me for going incommunicado.
I will finish 2 books today (plus finished 1 already yesterday) and will post them later to the thread.

I might do that read-a-thon as well, Amy. You always have great badges. :)

And safe travels to all who are travelling this weekend, I hope you have a wonderful time!
It's supposed to rain over here for most of the next week starting tomorrow :/ We might catch a little sun before it starts tomorrow morning but looks like we'll be seeking our entertainment indoors for the most part :)

We're having the most extreme weather Sweden has ever seen. It hasn't rained since May. It's super dry everywhere. Farmers are desperate for food for their cattle. Some are selling or slaughtering them because they don't have any food. Others are trying to import and many private people are offering up their gardens and ground for people to pick grass from.
There's also fires basically everywhere in Sweden, and that's not me being dramatic. More or less every province except three, last I checked but that could have changed since it was some days ago, have fires going on. Some provinces have many many many and some just one or a few. Some that they doubt if we can even stop. People are evacuating, our SOS has never released so many danger notes to the public, and it's the worst natural catastrophe in modern history.

How awful, and I hadn't seen it on our (UK) news at all. :( Hope you and your family are all safe.

Emelie, that sounds awful. Hope that turns around for you guys soon!

We are also in need of rain, but the situation is nowhere as dire as on Sweden.

But thanks for the concern guys! I'm personally fine. Don't live near any fire (yet). They reckon that we would need 2 weeks of rain to quench the fires we have no chance of manually extinguishing. Our prime minister and the top head in the SOS team was on the news today saying it's the direst thing our rescue (or whatever to call it) system has had to work with.

Morning from Greece!
We've been told that the challenge has been extended till 31 Aug.
Buddy Reads, classes & spells finish on 31st,so we need to finish up any BRs before then, plus any longer replacement astronomy books.
I've started Pillars of the Earth for a longer book there, and I've a couple of BRs still.
Triwizards start on 31 July, and we won't be taking any banked books into it.

Hope you have a good time in Greece, Cat! I hope your not near those devastating fires that are going on there? And enjoy the tzatziki! :D
I think you'll like Circe, Marie,so hopefully not a hardship!
@Emelie, I am up near Bulgaria, in the North East Aegean, so a long way from the fires. Absolutely horrific! It's been such a bad summer all over, really, with your fires too. (UK got away with just the one, though it was on a peat Moor so went on for a month or more. Thankfully out now)
Greece has been.... Errr.... Fun, in the main. My mum & I looking after two of my niblings - 5 & 3 and utterly annoying and adorable. It's not been my normal summer hol of lounging doing not much, that's for sure! Any reading had been rereading. Plus Enchanted Wood, Olga da Polga and The Worst Witch (on audio, twice).
We are both looking forward to dumping them back on their parents!

So, we've got new spell outs that the mods just added today. They're mainly to use up some of our banked books. I'll start checking out what we've got available later today. :)
How's your vacation going, Marie and Melinda?
The end of the year really just flies by for me. It used to be that we'd get to Halloween and then the rest of the year was gone. Now, we get to mid/late August and things really start moving along. I'll take some time for my birthday on Sunday and then start gearing up for the new school year. Sadly, this may mean I get less reading time.

The trouble with the peat fires on the moors is that they will burn underground until we get substantial rain and the ones around rivington - my childhood home were started deliberately. Even whilst firefighters were fighting one lot a group of youths were trying to set others it just makes no sense to me.

Thanks Melinda! Happy birthday to you, too!

It always seems so odd to me that the US goes back to school in August - my niblings have only just broken up for the summer, and here Katie is talking about back to school.
About the characters - if we don't want to be bothered to hunt out a Q for Quirinus, I read a Q title book that was used in spells (as the R in Riddikulus). Should be easy to switch in a different book for an R to snag that Q. I can't recall any X's lurking about in my unused books though, unfortunately.

have a wonderful day on Sunday, with or without Mr M ;-P - ruby is quite an achievem..."
no you have to do 60 for that and i definitely will have killed him by then, My in-laws got a telegram for their 60th and were so impressed the postman came in full uniform

I have an X! lol There's a character Xenocrates in Thunderhead (read July 15). I read it after we finished the first round of spells I believe :)

Anyone read anything particularly good lately? I just finished The Kiss Quotient which I really loved. Which reminds me, I need to update my books.

I hope you all can use the points. I have to quit, I just don't have the time to read for this challenge. Good luck!

Real life always comes first, don't feel bad. It's been nice to read with you. Good luck with your new job!

How about The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle?
I suppose it is historical, but I also loved How to Stop Time.
I think you've already read most of my top rated books...

Thank you!

It'll still be big book points when I do finish. Better to finish another buddy read instead (even though I think I'll only manage one more).

i have that on reserve but i am behind 6 others

Yeah, I had to wait ages for both of them.
