Sarah | 2131 comments I should finish my long astronomy book today - I think I have about half an hour left to go. It's been a long haul but it was worth the effort, thankfully. :)

I've got just well enough to be able to read more at my normal level, so that's good.

@Emelie - your vacation sounds fantastic! So glad you're having/had a great time.

Katie | 1634 comments I'm so glad you're starting to feel better, Sarah!

Amy, you're killing it with all those books. You're a quick one. :P

Cat, I'm on the DADA books as soon as I leave on Saturday!

We're doing a great job, guys! Way to go!

message 656: by Amy the book-bat (new)

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) | 914 comments tarot cards for divination? I started a book a long time ago that had tarot cards in it. I now have it as an audio and am willing to restart it if you think it will help.

message 657: by Katie (new)

Katie | 1634 comments Tarot cards would absolutely work, Amy! :)

message 658: by Melindam (last edited Jun 29, 2018 12:27AM) (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments I have finished Jeweled Fire (Elemental Blessings, #3) by Sharon Shinn this morning which may be used for DADA.

message 659: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2131 comments I will probably go on to reread HP3 at some point (finishing HP2 today), so that would work for Divination as well. There's definitely reading of tea leaves in Trelawney's class, at least.

Excellent news, guys! We've only got two spells left! and we've filled in all the Us!

Spells left are STUPEFY & PROTEGO

Letters needed are:
2 off P & T
1 off E, F, G, O, R, S

That's just 10 books to finish the spells!

We are also very close to finishing Classes:
Astronomy: two books needed
Care of Magical Creatures: waiting for Karla's demon red eyes book & Melinda's one with feathers
Charms: that pesky water charm!
DADA: one book with a dark creature, that we can use a gun as defense against (pretty much any, I think, tbh)
Divination: two books with divination tools in them - Sarah's pencilled in for one, and Amy maybe for the other
Arithmancy: not a problem - I've pencilled in Dune for the 801 - 900p, Melinda's reading for the 501 - 600p which just leaves the easy 321 - 500p.

Which is a total of 12 books needed for the classes

message 662: by Elena (new)

Elena | 1403 comments Things are looking great! Of course I'm in the middle of a U title now that we don't need them anymore :)

I'm nearly done with Dune by Frank Herbert , it has desert on the cover and in title, will it work for half of the water charm?

message 663: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10095 comments Mod
Elena, I can always reshuffle books about to get them used!

Dune could be used as half the water charm - I'd be most comfortable with a full on water on cover, rather than the title pairing. Or it's long, and would fill in a gap for arithmancy.
Have you enjoyed it? I reread it recently, after prob 15yrs since my last read - I did enjoy it, but definitely saw more flaws in than during earlier reads. And I still have no interest in reading the later books.

message 664: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments I will finish feathers-book tomorrow! :)

Just finished it and, boy, was it epic! I enjoyed it a lot but I did struggle with writing sometimes and I agree about flaws - had I read it 20 years ago I would have probably overlooked them but can't now! :) I'm not planning to continue as of now but might read the synopsis of the next book just to see where the story is going.

If you think there's enough desert on the cover for the charm, I can read Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri for water half. It's pretty short and available right away :)

message 666: by Amy the book-bat (new)

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) | 914 comments currently listening to Jackaby, which has an "R" author

will try to get to Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas this week for the divination (tarot cards)

also going to try for Killman Creek this week as a BR and maybe water if needed

have a couple others to get to in the next day or two because they are due back to the library

message 667: by Karla (new)

Karla I'm still working on my book, it's a slow read.

message 668: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8291 comments Elena, I first read Dune when in my teens and was totally impressed, read it again when at Uni and still loved it enough to go on with books 2-3, but it git more and more convoluted and decided not to go on with the series. I wonder whether it would still hold any appeal if I read it now.

message 669: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 5922 comments I am currently reading Scythe it is my real life book club read so I am trying to read slowly and enjoy it so i can talk about it with confidence

We don't - until Tri-Wizards, at least! - need to obsessively record character names anymore! :)

Go team!

message 671: by Emelie (new)

Emelie | 415 comments Omg, that's so awesome!

Sorry for my lack of activity in here. Returned from vacation a few days ago. Had a bad first day at home. Good know but on top of that my luggage is on adventure somewhere and my laptop charger is in there. Since I don't want to go and buy a new one until I really know if I get it back or not I'm not on the computer and the new phone I got doesn't give me notifications as my old one did when you post in the thread 😒 gotta see if it's a setting or something...

I hope you get reunited soon

Sonia's canvassing thoughts on whether we should extend the challenge for a couple of weeks; (see Leaky Cauldron)

Anyway, we're discussing things in the background, and since what we have in store is so good, we're thinking about adding a couple weeks more to the challenge.

So... we need to know if you're on board with that idea.

Also, the resident little hobbit had this awesome idea to create a Durmstrang Institute and Beauxbatons Academy of Magic teams, just for TriWizards in order to allow for reserves to experience a bit of the magic.

Thoughts?

I'm good with it, what about you guys?

message 697: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2131 comments It all sounds good to me. I was already wondering what to do with myself in August, so that postpones the problem. 😆

message 698: by Katie (new)

Katie | 1634 comments Amy -- There was a lot of discussion about Killman Creek and it's suitability for the water charm. I think most were against it, so we might want to go with a book that has more water showing on the cover?
