Forced detox is actually not a bad idea!

Just imagine what you can do with your free time when you don't have a phone glued to your hand ;-)

You can do it, Cat!

I am relieved to let you all know that I have ordered a replacement, which should be in my desperate hands Monday...

I can make it till then, right! I did read a whole book yesterday, so maybe there is some silver lining?

Progress Summary

We are doing SO well!
We've only got 55 letters needed for the spells (OUI remain high priority!)

Classes:
Arithmancy - we need books in the 351-500 & 800-900 page range. I'm not too worried about these - they can wait until spells are closer to finished I think. 800-900 I've also mentally planned to red HP&OotP, which should fit that one easily :)

Astronomy - we've got all the slots pencilled in, though we might want to look at some of them and if we can find longer books, subsitute, Again, not a major worry

Charms - we've completed most of them: we need a STITCH book (I think Amy said she had one in her pile to be read) for mending, and a pair for the water-making charm. We are probably going to change out the levitation books (gets me an I too!) for two being read by Melinda.

Care of Magical Creatures - we need two more body parts/descriptors, to join our bat winged, mammoth headed, red eyed creature. an actual body might not go amiss - maybe even a human body? and the last one could be a tail? or maybe feathers or scales to cover the body? anyway, next dude Katie reads, assuming it doesn't have an OUI, might get pitched in there! :)
We'll need to start thinking about a name, but I'll leave that till it's fully described!

DADA - we've completed 4 of the pairs (witch/house; fae/gun; witch/stabbing; zombies/fire). We've got two monsters in need of killing/defense: a vampire - Amy's reading a book with Buffy in the title :); and werewolves - I've got a silver title to read. Melinda's going to read a book with Fire in the title, so another dark art creature we can defend against with fire (witch / zombie / vamp are the obvious)

Divination - we need two books where diviniation tools are used (tarot / crystal ball / tea leaves / palm reading / casting of runes / fiddling in entrails). any volunteers?!

Transfiguration - we need a before and after pairing! any ideas welcome. We do have a book with a car on the cover, if that helps anyone with ideas, but we can just go for whatever we fancy! Volunteers?!

In summary, I need active thoughts on transfiguration pair; divination tools and water-making charm.

Amy, shout if you have changed your mind about reading the stitch in title / Buffy books, so we can replan :)

and...... keeeeeeeep reading!

Sarah | 2131 comments Progress report on Gardens of the Moon (768 pages). I'm a third of the way through and it's 'only' taken 6 hours. This is one dense and confusing book! I think it will be worth the effort in the end...

I should go faster once I finish up a couple of buddy reads that I'm reading at the same time.

Karla I am working on My Demon's Name Is Ed by Danah Khalil , it's just a slow read for me because it's based on the author's struggle with anorexia.

I am going to read All Just Glass (Den of Shadows, #7) by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes that has a vampire and a witch in it. It might work for divination. If not, it'll work for DADA

I am sure we can use her! Either as an innate tool or switching my Circe out of prophecy into tools and putting Mrs Cake into "prophecy in book" task :)

And DEATH! I <3 DEATH

would Snuff (Discworld, #39) by Terry Pratchett do with the wild-flying hens or the feathers need to be more pronounced? It could also work for Arithmancy with 423 pages.

I'd love a U and L soon, to finish Wingardium Leviosa, and/or 2 Ns and 2 Ts for Priori Incantatem. But I'll be patient, as everyone bar Marie is reading for Classes or Quidditch, and Marie is churning out lots of books as it is! :)

We're in a super good spot right now - thanks team, for being so awesome!

And thank YOU for being an awesome captain, Cat! And what a coincidence - my phone died on the same day as yours! I'm on holiday however for another week so can't replace it for at least 1 1/2 weeks. Sorry for going a bit AWOL over the weekend - but I am sure you'll forgive me when I say: Quidditch!

Katie's doing some sterling Beater work, attacking and defending like a demond, and Marie's keeping everything going with the team - thanks both! Melinda's Hungarian book is also doing the trick of keeping their Keeper at bay from that book! :) We're strategising to see if we can get Melinda to read two next time! or even all 7 ;-P

Everyone else's been reading up a storm for our spells and classes - and I have just submitted another spell:

A	Amy	Pop Goes the Weasel
L Amy The Brown Fairy Book
O Marie A Curious Beginning
H Katie Crazy Good
O Sarah Harry Potter & Ecole de Sorciers
M Katie Maiden Flight
O Marie The Glittering Prizes
R Marie The Lido
A Amy Nemesis

We just need 36 more letters:

Cat, if it's allowed, I'd be happy to read at least 2 HU books for the next round. :) 2 short ones I can totally do (I have already some books lined up for the purpose), but unfortunately not all 7. :D

@Emelie yeah, phones are pricey! I get mine outright, rather than on a pay-monthly contract, as it works out better for me, but it does mean I feel the need to get a relatively new model, which doesn't help with the cost either.

Hope you are having a fab holiday!

What we really want are books that have untranslatable titles!

the new ruling for Keepers is that when the Quaffle has at least three unreadable books, they can read an alternative book that has a link word with the original book AND is 150p longer.

So books with single rare word titles would be perfect!

message 638: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8289 comments I'll be on the lookout, then. :)

message 639: by Emelie (new)

Emelie | 415 comments I'm having a fabulous holiday! I'm in Montenegro for the very first time, and it's really awesome! Stunning views and scenery and nature, lovely water, nice locals, really good food but still so cheap, and the weather is not too hot, so you melt away (yet, anyway, they say it gets much much worse from July on). It's our new favourite place; we're all gobsmacked and so happy that we decided to give this country and place a try!

And same for me with the phone, Cat. I'm gonna buy it outright too so I want a good, new phone, which is so very costly... But I know, being a tech nerd as I am, that I will regret going for some older models just to save money, when they cost quite a bit of money as well, anyway.

sorry, couldn't resist a tease at those American's who have a poor grasp of Europe, and think that London is a country, or something! I had a friend who did a summer in America during university, and she met people who genuinely asked "England, is that near London?" !

And that's totally blissful sounding, Emelie :) I've never been to any of the Balkans, but would love to one day.
