Synopsis

I just grabbed this book from the library! I'm super excited to start this read!

Hi Jen,
I know Andrea will be joining us. I 'm off tomorrow so I'm hoping to read a good chunk. I leave spoilers so no worry of ruining anything for anyone. Its been a while since I 've read the other 3.

I 've started the book, I 'm reading an ecopy from my OverDrive so while reading I've noticed there are no chapter numbers. Each chapter is either headed as Juliette or Warner.

It's been a while since I 've read the other 3 books so some past details are hazy. I am enjoying the two points of view the story is told from though its too early to decide if I like Juliette's or Warner's point of view better.
Juliette is a little over her head not knowing how to lead. Warner knows a lot of information that will help Juliette "rule " (for lack of a better word) Is he deliberating keeping it from her to take over? It will be interesting to see what comes of the other supreme commander's visits. I am enjoying the tiny little tid bits of information from Warner's life. It has to be a little awkward killing your boyfriend's father even if he was an as###ole. Does anyone remember if we knew before that Dalalieu is Warner's grandfather? (hide spoiler)]

I love the easy friendship between Juliette and Kenji. Some of their conversations are funny. Their relationship is "easy" and not complicated like hers and Warner.
This isn't going to end well with all the secrets between Juliette & Warner.
Oh wow... Juliette was shot; I wonder if Nazeera was in the right place at the right time to help Juliette or if she had something to do with the shooting.
More surprises... Juliette has a sister. I didn't see that coming. Did we know about that in the previsous books? I can't remember.
I like that Mafi writes about "flawed" heroines and heros but ... sometimes their( Juliette & Warner's ) self loathing and whining is a bit much.
I'm looking forward to more surprise plot twists!

Mafi does an incredible job with her characters. I think they are whiny and then she reminds us of everything they went through and I admire and love them again. Juliette's excerpt for her journal in the asylum is just sad, sad. My heart if breaking for her all over again. Well done Mafi for making me love and hate your characters! (hide spoiler)]

I just got up to this point. So far, it feels somewhat like a slow start. I'm having some difficulty motivating myself to keep reading, but I'm hoping it picks up!

I also felt like I had forgotten some of the characters and conflicts. I had to go and read some information about what happened in the last books and who the characters were, but it's all coming back!

One thing is that it seems to be missing the same poetic hint to the writing and that is kind of a bummer.

I had definitely forgotten some of the characters and conflicts but the more I read , the rest came back to me and it all started to make sense.

Its weird to think that Juliette and Warner played with each other as little children. How awful to be taken by parents who gave you up in the first place. It sure does make for an interesting next book.

Mafi has definitely created an interesting world.
