What are you reading? What to read next? Favorite series, authors? What title deserves a movie adaptation? Doors open in The Parlor for a lively or warm but definitely friendly chat on all things biblio. Authors, feel free to tell us about your tome. We love discovering new titles!

If only I were a speed reader over one who savors. But, not to fret for it's better to have more choices than not enough. My next fix is due to arrive tomorrow, on Sunday. Can't wait!

How about you? PI's, what are you reading? What's next on your TBR list? Do tell!

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments I'm current reading Murder with Cinnamon Scones by Karen Rose Smith and still listening to Busman's Harbor by Dorothy Sayers. Next up the queue this month - Murder at Mullings by Dorothy Cannell, Bundle of Trouble by Diana Orgain and, of course, The Appleton Case. Oh, and next week I'll be listening to Mother's Day Murder by Leslie Meier to keep with my Lucy Stone holiday theme. ;-)

Busman's Honeymoon?

In addition to The Appleton Case, I'm listening to Go Set a Watchman, the follow-up (of sorts) to To Kill a Mockingbird.

Nicole, is all of this (your listening) on Audible? If so, I may want to look into that again. I've been trying to do four books a month, one mystery for this group, one other mystery, and two non-mysteries, on CD if possible. Hard to keep up without the listening versions!

Hi Mark - I'm listening to Busman's Honeymoon (it's taking a while because it's an almost 13 hour reading!) and then Mother's Day Murder. Mullings is a lovely trade paperback that Dorothy Cannell signed for me last weekend, and the other three will be on my Kindle. :-)

How do you like Watchman? I haven't read it yet.

Wow, PI's! Trying to keep up just reading your lists! ;-) Busman's comes up quite often. Maybe we should consider it for June?

Love me some Lucy Stone. I was tackling her series and left off somewhere in Paris read; need-want to get back on that series. She never fails when it comes to holiday reads. Always loads of spirit for the occasions. And then there's a new MSW out or coming out, a new Cleo Coyle read, Agatha Raisin soon to release and of course my historical mystery, Dead Bore that's underway via sample pages. Plus, plus, plus all the titles I can't recall or fit in this posting right now.

Nicole, I'm a little more than halfway through Watchman. It is so interesting. Without giving too much away, Scout (Jean Louise) is now 26 and returns home for a vacation and is shocked by the way things are in her birthplace, in Alabama. Time seems to be the early-mid sixties.

Interesting....if I recall correctly, she wrote if before Mockingbird? Or am I wrong?

Tina, I would be up for a future group read of Busman's Honeymoon if everyone else is on board. I'd even read a real book this time and not listen to it, lol!

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments I have just finished/am in the middle of reading a LOT of books. I just finished the new Diva book that is coming out next month (I think) and also The Woman in the Window which is psychological/suspense. Both really good. I finished listening to Death of a Cookbook Author and that was pretty good too. Now I'm reading Cinnamon Scones and Murder, Natural Thorn Killer, and listening to Murder for the Books. I JUST picked up the new Murder She Wrote book so I will be starting that probably this weekend. So many books, so little time!!!!!

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments Audiobooks on my commute, read before bed, read at the gym, where there’s time I will use it to read!!

message 16: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments I'm with NicoleG on that! Audiobooks in the car, on my walks and bike rides, and also when doing things around the house! Kindle the rest of the time! :-)

I do want to read the latest MSW book. A friend's friend wrote (or contributed to) the tome. I'm intrigued.

LovesMysteries | 327 comments I'm currently about to begin -- reread for that matter-- Agatha Christie's Crooked House, then I'm going to watch the recent TV adaptation that came out. I've been in a reading slump for a LOOOOOONG time, for years actually. I've been starting on a plethora of books but aborted right in the middle. It's like I can't stick to reading a book all the way to the end. And the culprit is of course . . . the internet! I've allowed it to take control my life that it has ate away not only my time for reading but my attention span as well, so I'm trying to get back in the groove of reading. I do have to say that throughout my lengthy dry season of reading, my love of books has not faded. So please you're fingers crossed for me that I will read to the end and not give up as I've done ;)

Crooked House was my first Agatha, which I read in high school, and the ending still sticks with me today, lol!

I love the book Crooked House. One of the best! I've not seen the recent movie, but word is that it is pretty faithful to the book. But I always think it is better to read the book first. Welcome back to the reading, LovesMysteries!

I can't recall if I read Crooked House and though I liked the movie enough, it wasn't one of my favorite Christies. Still, anything Christie and I'm there.

NicoleG, PI's, have any of you read The Couple Next Door? It's in paperback and on sale and looked inviting. I figured it to be similar to Woman In/Window.

message 30: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments The Couple Next Door isn’t too similar to The Woman in the Window but it’s another one of those books where you just need to find out what the heck is going on or it will bug you!

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments Okay, I finally watched Crooked House last night. I have a soft spot for it because it was the first Christie I ever read. Very dark....

The ending of Crooked House in the book was very controversial for Christie. They wanted her to change it, but she stuck to her guns.

message 33: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments I think that's why the book has stuck with me for so many years. I first read it when I was 14, and it really shocked me, lol.

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments Christie really got me good this time.

LovesMysteries | 327 comments Mark Pghfan wrote: "The ending of Crooked House in the book was very controversial for Christie. They wanted her to change it, but she stuck to her guns."

I would have loved to known the original ending to "Death Comes As The End". I haven't came across it. Unfortunately, Christie changed it based on the opinion of her friend Stephen Glanville who gave her the idea of writing a historical mystery.

Yes, that would be nice to know. As it is, there were so many deaths in DCATE that the murderer is almost the only one left!

I LOVE AMANDA QUICK! I haven't read any of her new stuff, but I really enjoyed her older books. Side note: She's also Jayne Ann Krentz (contemporary) and Jayne Castle (futuristic).

Pghfan, I'd heard of her but never read her books. This one has just released and takes place in Hollywood, circa 1930's. Sounds good. The Other Lady Vanishes by Amanda Quick

There is one book that starts this series but I hear that beginning with #2 is fine. Pretty much can stand alone.

Good going, Nicole. Seems I picked a good title to escape in. Thanks for the 411.
