All one has to do is read Bruno Bettelheim's The Uses of Enchantment to see where and why our darkest desires can be revealed by what we read. Children are fascinated by fairy tales because they tell them that this incomprehensible world in which they live does have an order where villians, monsters and evil forces are vanquished. Adults have the same needs, especially in a world that continues to be seemingly incomprehensible.
