The only thing that worries me is that humans seem to be relying on science to come up with miracles to get them out of the mess they have created. That may be our best hope. Is it our only hope?

It's not new science. As long as science is guided by profits, only doing what it is paid to do, good or bad, it will never be able to offer any kind of long term solutions. Piecemeal solutions create wholesale problems.
