I read bits of this book about 8 years ago when I was 8, but the book should be a lot older and I doubt it was meant for children (i picked up a lot of mature books randomly). The cover has this boy struggling in the rain/ocean and a skeleton next to him if I'm not mistaken. It's about this noble boy who leaves his castle for some reason (his mother isn't around) and can shapeshift into various animals- the one I remember being the roc. He is accompanied by a talking skeleton on this journey. This book popped randomly into my head and it'd be cool to look back and see what the hell I picked up when I was younger so all help would be appreciated.
