Okay, we'd better put up a few guidelines for promotion. I know, I know.
I'm all about the networking and have no problem with promoting your work here, but I ask that you do so courteously and within the guidelines.
1-put any promotional posts in this folder only
2-if you're going to promote, it is polite to be involved in the other discussions as well. Trust me, if you just pop in for a commercial, you won't be driving home readers, you will be irritating them.
3-I'd rather only see one post per serial for promotional purposes. We don't need a new ad when you post a new chapter/episode. I'll leave em here, and if a reasonable amount of time has gone by and you want to update, maybe run it by me first.
4-when you post a promo, list the title, genre, posting frequency, short description and excerpt along with a url... so we can get a feel for what you're offering.

thanks a lot

I know we now have at least a few members that write serials... let's have links so we can enjoy them.

I'll start off and break the ice. My Space Opera is at:

Title: Space Slugs
Genre: Humorous Sci-Fi
Posting: Every 2 weeks

When Xenobiologist, Dr. Murray, receives yet another phony wedding invitation
from her galaxy hopping sister, she does what any good sibling would do. She
drops her research and hops the first flight to some obscure planet at the edge
of the civilized universe.
But Zora's weddings never manage to go off as planned, and before the cake is
served, Murray finds herself imprisoned with the unapologetic bride. With the
assistance of a mysterious android and the universe's last living space slug,
the two find themselves on the run in a stolen space ship with half the galaxy
in hot pursuit. Thanks to Zora, it's the least desirable half.
Maybe Murray will get lucky, and the crash landing will kill her.

I'll chime in...

URL: http://www.katandmouseserial.com
Genre: Cyberpunk (sci-fi) action-adventure
Posting: New installments every Monday

It's 2042 in the California Free State metroplex of Bay City. Kat and Mouse are a pair of ronin--guns for hire--trying to eke out a living.

They have the skill. They have the will.

And they have the bad habit of getting in over their heads.

Which usually means run-ins with rival ronin, punkergangs, the mob, the Yakuza, cyborg assassins, and whatever else Bay City decides to throw at them.

But they always get the job done.

Their way.

Heaven help Bay City...

K.J. Joyner (spearcarrier) Wow. I thought there'd be a lot more serials plugged here! Well I'll add to the mix if that's okay.

Title: Trait of Honor

URL: http://www.apocalypsewriters.com/honor/

Genre: ... scifi of some sort? Okay yes. I have trouble placing my books into genres ever since the categories got more complicated.

Posting: New installments on the 1st and 15th. That will increase when I get more readers (say about 10), but right now I have all of 1 and work on 2 comics as well. So unless people deem it worthy I... don't want to kill myself. =^-^=

Domino didn’t mean to run away. It just happened. Lost in a strange country she flies from place to place trying to seek refuge from her father and the buzzing of her mind. When she reaches the High Kingdom she discovers disturbing things about her own creation and the involvement of her father. Now she just has to get through this with her sanity intact.

Juvinich didn’t want go to to the High Kingdom, but it was his civic duty. On the way he purchases a strange slave and loses his lifelong friend. When he reaches the High Kingdom, he discovers things are more rotten than they seemed. Now he just has to get out alive.

Seraph was the last princess of the High Kingdom. She has been missing for years, and many presume her to be dead. But her memory haunts the countryside and is ultimately the force guiding Domino and Juvinich on…

=^-^= Thanks for the place to plug!

Mike (mikerm) Title: The Y People

URL: http://city-of-masks.blogspot.com/200...

Marie can open a door to anything she needs. Kevin knows where everything is. Jane can make technology do exactly what it should do. Nobody notices John.

These four young people are brought together from around the world, pursued by the unsettling "Mr Brown". Where did their powers come from, and who is trying to exploit them? Can they avoid being tools of their shadowy sponsors in a cause they haven't yet identified?

A novel about being teenage, different, and human.

V.J. Chambers (vjchambers) | 5 comments Title: The Jason and Azazel Trilogy
(first book, Breathless, is completed, second book, Trembling, is on episode four.)

Genre: YA Romance-Thriller (Think Romeo and Juliet meets The Da Vinci Code meets Rosemary's Baby)

Posting Frequency: Mondays and Thursdays

Description: Jason races into Azazel's life--sweaty, tortured, and hunted by covert forces. Even though her football-player boyfriend doesn't like it, Azazel is drawn to Jason. He's so complicated. He gets in fistfights, but always wins them--efficiently and thoroughly. He reads Plato and argues with their AP teacher. But he's also quiet and serious, haunted by a past he won't talk about. Azazel feels obsessed. She can't let anything get in the way of finding out Jason's secrets, not even her boyfriend, her friends, or her parents. Most importantly, no matter how dangerous Jason claims it is for her to be near him, she can't let him leave.

I'm new to goodreads and just finding my way around (first impression: where has this site been all my life?), and I'm delighted that there's a group just for serial fiction. Bravo, Frances! I just launched a serial that I'm co-authoring, and I'd love it if any of you would like to check it out. Title: Skyboarders
URL: http://www.skyboarders.com
Genre: Post Apocalyptic Sci Fi, dash of comedy, possibly YA
Posting: Every 2 weeks

It is the year 1277 according to the City Calender of the Valley of Karr. It has been seventy-six years since the last Emperor, Melakur TeRasa, was brutally assassinated and the Palace burned. His two sons were either killed, or mysteriously vanished. Now people say that both must be dead, or one of them would have stepped forward to claim the throne.

In that time, the Southern Houses have gained strength and power, looming over the last free-packs of the north which hold to the old ways, and an ancient threat is growing deep under the ground. People are vanishing, strange armored men with no faces are appearing at night, able to fly without a skyboard, and half-demon “von-men” with glowing eyes are roaming the streets.

In the northernmost tip of the Valley of Karr, a young warrior named Tarek has mastered the art of Skyboarding, but he still searches for clues about his missing past. He’s fought his way into a position of authority in the roughest ‘boardpack in the Valley, the Jelka, but his fight isn’t over yet.

Hillary (webhill) | 3 comments Hi! I'm the writer for a new online graphic novel called Generation Vet. It just went live today and I'd love if anyone would check it out and offer feedback (here, or directly on the site itself). We plan to offer new minisodes approximately monthly. In between minisodes, Dr. Brown tweets and posts small updates and pics on Facebook :)

Here is the press release sent out to the veterinary community by my collaborator Phil Barnes:

For your entertainment, I've collaborated with a very smart, very funny veterinarian named Hillary Israeli and together we've just launched a new online comic called Generation Vet. It follows the story of Amanda Brown, DVM, a young and impetuous veterinarian juggling the daily struggles of life and caring for animals. See the first minisode at http://bit.ly/GenVet1.

Join the Generation Vet community on Facebook at http://bit.ly/TN16M

Keep up with Amanda Brown, DVM between minisodes on Twitter at http://bit.ly/6lCSJ.

Check it out, let me know what you think, please redistribute and solicit feedback as you feel is appropriate :). I am also going to check out some of the links you all have posted in this thread to get a better feel for what kind of stuff is out there!

Thanks so much!

Genre: Adventure / Dark fantasy

Description: Life above ground is something Lilith has never experienced. When she gets the chance to visit the outside world, she’s understandably ecstatic. But the infected have a reputation for being dangerous for a reason, and Lilith is about to find out why....

Title: Of Kings and Monsters
URL: http://www.kingsandmonsters.biggsbook...
Genre: Fantasy / Romance
Posting: Every week, at minimum

When a monster decides to spare the life of a child, he changes the fate of kingdoms, curtails an expanding empire, restores a lost royal dynasty, and most especially, alters his own life forever.

Ja’kh’redd, a monstrous Vidos, was out hunting when he came across an orphaned human child amidst the ruins of a recently destroyed caravan. Taking pity on the ‘human cub’ he saved her, attempting to return her to humankind to grow up among her own.

A decade and a half later, Ja’kh’redd would come across the same human cub once more, this time grown to adulthood… and on death’s door. Rescuing her a second time from a fatal wound begins a journey that will take the humble Vidos from the life of a simple hunter to the halls of ancient Kings, the feasting table of conquerors, and into a life he never could have imagined.

With a strange but elemental love story as its backbone, Kings and Monsters is ultimately a story about humanity, compassion, and what makes a soul noble… and it isn’t the color of the skin, or whether or not there are horns.

Title: Who Is Anthony Stephens?
Genre: Mystery/Dark Comedy
Posting: Daily
The basic, one-sentence summary for the story is it's about a guy who fakes his death to get out of student loans. Pretty much my commentary on the student loan situation in the country right now, and also me experimenting with form and mystery novels. Here's the summary I have up on my site:

- Since 1978, the cost of college tuition in the United States has gone up by over 900 percent.

- In 2010, the average college graduate had accumulated approximately $25,000 in student loan debt by graduation day.

- Approximately two-thirds of all college students graduate with student loans.

- Americans have accumulated well over $900 billion in student loan debt. That figure is higher than the total amount of credit card debt in the United States.

Who is Anthony Stephens?

Anthony Stephens is an American college graduate.

Anthony Stephens can’t take it anymore.

Anthony Stephens is taking matters into his own hands.

…Anthony Stephens is going to die.

Susannah Hume (imaginalia) Hey guys, I'm not all that good at self-promo, but I've been in bed sick for 3 days, and I'm running out of TV to watch, haha. Fiigured I'd just pop in here to leave a quick plug for my webserial, "A Frequent Traveller's Guide to Jovan", which has all the things I like to read - fantasy, intrigue, romance, adventure and sarcasm!

Title: A Frequent Traveller's Guide to Jovan
Genre: (political) fantasy
Posting: Every Sunday
Description (Volume 1):

Since the death of their brother the Emperor brought the Lords Valentin and Cassius back to Monsilys, capital of the great Jovani Empire, Valentin has cured the boredom of court life with poppy-sap and women, while for Cassius the remedy has been ale and the result much the same. Then an ill-fated duel causes their niece the Empress to send them to the frontier to investigate rumours of treason, and they find themselves drawn ever more back into the world of Jovani politics: a world their brother banished them from seventeen years earlier.

As Valentin veers from disaster to disaster, always running from his past and a life he would prefer to forget, Cassius is fascinated by a damaged boy he rescues from a slave brothel. Valentin's weapon is sly diplomacy, while Cassius prefers the honesty of the sword, but will either be enough to protect Jovan, and themselves?

Genre: Historical Fantasy/Mystery
Posting: Weekly

Type: Interrelated Novellas
Length per Installment: 1500-2000 words (except for Part 1, where I give a long installment of 4000 words

Decription: What do you get when you cross The Dresden Files with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ugly Americans, and Gangs of New York? You get the charming and action packed "The Watchmage of Old New York"

Nathaniel Hood is exhausted. As the assigned Watchmage of New York, he is entrusted with the safety, well-being, and law enforcement of NYC's magical community. Not a terrible job, but the sudden explosion of immigration has overwhelmed him with a workload that no other Watchmage has ever seen, a cacophony of Veil Dwellers: Sidhe, Trolls, Goblins, Pooka, and upstart Magelings. No wonder he's always drinking.

When the infant of a wealthy human family goes missing, Nathaniel suspects Dweller involvement. His search for the child brings him deep into the heart of New York City's underworld. Will Nathaniel come out on the other side unscathed? Tune in weekly to find out.

I think there isn't one reason. For some, serializing sounds easy until you get knee-deep into it and don't know how to pull yourself together for the next installment. I started writing mine with a large group of excited writer/readers and some stopped completely while others stalled out and realized they couldn't maintain a consistent pace, or had problems with story that they needed to rework, etc.

One of the other things that does happen is that writing on the web to a quiet audience becomes very discouraging. For those that hope to write and get readers, every one of them helps them keep moving forward when they comment/write or whatever. The loss of them (or their silence) can be very discouraging.

At many times I really hated what I was doing. Thankfully I had a few vocal cheerleaders who just said "Hey, I'm still reading," and without them I might have just stopped writing completely.

Hope this response addresses your question.

And Craig - welcome!

Devin Kamar (kamar) | 2 comments Not planning on being a drive-by promoter, but I figure I'll go ahead and get my serial out there. I'll warn that I'm treating it as a first draft, meaning I might occasionally change my mind about something that happened early, put a little note of it, and continue on as if I'd written the previous chapters properly.

Title: Necromancer
Rating: PG-13
Genre: YA/New Adult Fantasy
Link: http://devinkamar.wordpress.com/2013/...
Posting Frequency: +2000 words/week
One sentence pitch:

A girl falls from hero to antivillain, leading monstrous armies against her homeland and its gods in a bid to resurrect the girl she loves.

A casual description:

Elizabeth is the princess of Arkhenia and Chosen servant of Ars Telura--the most important god, which makes her the most important Chosen. Unfortunately, the populace at large fears and distrusts her because her powers kill things.

Felix is her twin brother, Crown Prince of Arkhenia. He, like Elizabeth, was born without the tiny bit of magic everyone in Arkhenia has, which made people distrust him at first. Unlike her, his magic never 'came in', but he's become quite popular through his actions.

Kel Kess is the last goddess of Shadow and ruler of Narat, making her the 'Dark Lord' of the setting. Thing is, she's also a good-natured if cynical girl named Katherine who wants to make things better for her homeland and make lasting peace with Arkhenia.

Things kick off when Katherine comes to Arkhenia to try to work out their differences. In the end, things almost fall apart--but Elizabeth decides to go to Narat as an ambassador.

Things go uphill for a while, then they go very downhill. Katherine gets deadish, Elizabeth gets evilish, and Felix tries to stop her from destroying Arkhenia and killing all of its gods.

Fleet is the story of prisoner 66895 on a prison ship headed blindly into space, or so she thinks, until a message and an explosion rocks the tiny, dark hell she's been wrongly sentenced to.

Douglass Barre, writer of the Image Comics series MYTHSTALKERS and DEFIANCE is launching an online weekly serial fiction magazine called CHIMERICAL TALES. Described as "an anthology offering science fiction, fantasy and pulp adventure for the discerning cliffhanger enthusiast," the site will feature the return of MYTHSTALKERS as well as four other new series.

Barre's plan is for a one year commitment to CHIMERICAL TALES during which he will serialize a wide range of original fiction, from fantasy to science fiction, humor and romance to metafiction. The site will also feature original weekly covers drawn by comic art greats like Mike Grell, Matt Howarth, Clint Langley and Chris Burnham as well as new up-and-coming artists. Monday through Friday will each feature a chapter in one of five serials, and a compilation of each week's stories and art will be made available that weekend in ebook format, perfect for reading on a tablet or smart phone.

Opportunities for readers to subscribe or become personally involved in one or more of the stories will be provided through several different levels of pledge support. Assuming CHIMERICAL TALES is successfully funded, Barre intends for the magazine to launch in July 2013.

Gayla Drummond (gldrummond) Hi, new to the group. =)

Here's my offering:

Title: The Psionics
Rating: NC-17/R
Genre: Alternate History/Paranormal/Scifi
Posting: Weekly
Link: http://psionics.gldrummond.com
Type: Serialized Novel Series
Length per Installment: Between 500-1600 words on average.
Now Playing: Emergence (Book 1)

In 1942, a wick caught flame…

Nazi experimentation led to the discovery of unusual mental capabilities. Seized by the Americans at the end of the war, a covert military project code named “Wildfire” continued that research with the goal of creating “super” operatives.

The flame burned…

A number of children were born with unusual talents: they could create fire and ice from air, read thoughts, do amazing things with only the power of their minds. Although Wildfire took custody of some, others slipped through the cracks, their talents passing onto the next generation.

And exploded.

By 1983, an increasing number of disturbing instances brought the “talented” to public attention. Fear and panic followed. Wildfire was ready, having indoctrinated their selectively bred captives. Thus, the Psi Task Force was formed.

We live in fear, hiding what we are…

Those with talents became known as “Psionics”, quickly learning that if anyone suspected they were talented, or if they displayed their talent in public, it meant capture or death. Rewards for capture were standard, lynchings more common.

Something has to change.

Long in coming, resistance is here and gaining momentum. Psionics are banding together with sympathizers and ex-Psi Hunters. The time has come to put an end to Wildfire and gain the right to live free of imprisonment and fear of death.

Daniel Piros | 4 comments Title: Mysterious Ways: A Divine Comedy
Genre: Science Fiction + Fantasy
Posting: For now, every other Friday. Will likely change once I actually have people reading it.
Description: MW:ADC is an unconventional web serial that combines science fiction and fantasy, as well as humor and philosophy. It centers around the world of Alicrow, inhabited by various sentient species, and filled with both magic and technology. It revolves around a group of gods in mortal form, who are attempting to make sense of the world and discover the reason for their own existence.

I felt someone slap my neck with a ruler.
"Ow! What was that for?" I opened my eyes. Saw the teacher, Ms. Slaphappy, staring at me.
"Pay attention, young man! You're supposed to be practicing!"
Third day of lessons on halo usage.
"I was," I growled, "Until you came along."
"No you weren't. You had your music on."
"Yeah. You said to meditate. I use music to--"
"DON'T TALK BACK AT ME YOUNG MAN!!" She slapped me with the ruler about ten more times as she yelled.
I clenched my fists. Closed my eyes and tried to stay--
I jumped out of my seat. "I'm not going to sleep. I'm trying to remain calm. And you're making it very difficult. So just walk away. Now." I shook my head. "Or, better yet, I will." I turned around to leave the room.
A hard slap on my bare wings. "DON'T TURN AWAY FROM ME!!"
I let out an eagle-like cry. A war cry. Warning her to back off.
I could feel myself getting hotter. The feathers in my pocket were rising to the flash point, threatening to combust.
I had to stay in control. Had to get away.
I ran to the bathroom and locked the stall. Put my headphones back on and meditated. Deep breaths. In 1... 2... 3... 4... hold 1... 2... 3... 4... out 1... 2... 3... 4... repeat.
Several minutes later, I was ready to come out. I checked my watch, saw that class was only half over. But there was no way I was going to risk going back.
Instead, I headed to the principle's office. Time to report Ms. Slaphappy for her insane use of corporeal punishment.
I smiled. I can't (legally) set her on fire, but getting her fired will be almost as satisfying.
