People are vanishing, strange armored men with no faces are appearing at night, able to fly without a skyboard, and half-demon “von-men” with glowing eyes are roaming the streets.

I think there isn't one reason. For some, serializing sounds easy until you get knee-deep into it and don't know how to pull yourself together for the next installment. I started writing mine with a large group of excited writer/readers and some stopped completely while others stalled out and realized they couldn't maintain a consistent pace, or had problems with story that they needed to rework, etc.
One of the other things that does happen is that writing on the web to a quiet audience becomes very discouraging. For those that hope to write and get readers, every one of them helps them keep moving forward when they comment/write or whatever. The loss of them (or their silence) can be very discouraging.
At many times I really hated what I was doing. Thankfully I had a few vocal cheerleaders who just said "Hey, I'm still reading," and without them I might have just stopped writing completely.

A casual description:
Elizabeth is the princess of Arkhenia and Chosen servant of Ars Telura--the most important god, which makes her the most important Chosen. Unfortunately, the populace at large fears and distrusts her because her powers kill things.
Felix is her twin brother, Crown Prince of Arkhenia. He, like Elizabeth, was born without the tiny bit of magic everyone in Arkhenia has, which made people distrust him at first. Unlike her, his magic never 'came in', but he's become quite popular through his actions.
Kel Kess is the last goddess of Shadow and ruler of Narat, making her the 'Dark Lord' of the setting. Thing is, she's also a good-natured if cynical girl named Katherine who wants to make things better for her homeland and make lasting peace with Arkhenia.
Things kick off when Katherine comes to Arkhenia to try to work out their differences. In the end, things almost fall apart--but Elizabeth decides to go to Narat as an ambassador.
Things go uphill for a while, then they go very downhill. Katherine gets deadish, Elizabeth gets evilish, and Felix tries to stop her from destroying Arkhenia and killing all of its gods.

Link: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/3...Douglass Barre, writer of the Image Comics series MYTHSTALKERS and DEFIANCE is launching an online weekly serial fiction magazine called CHIMERICAL TALES. Described as "an anthology offering science fiction, fantasy and pulp adventure for the discerning cliffhanger enthusiast," the site will feature the return of MYTHSTALKERS as well as four other new series.
Barre's plan is for a one year commitment to CHIMERICAL TALES during which he will serialize a wide range of original fiction, from fantasy to science fiction, humor and romance to metafiction. The site will also feature original weekly covers drawn by comic art greats like Mike Grell, Matt Howarth, Clint Langley and Chris Burnham as well as new up-and-coming artists. Monday through Friday will each feature a chapter in one of five serials, and a compilation of each week's stories and art will be made available that weekend in ebook format, perfect for reading on a tablet or smart phone.
Opportunities for readers to subscribe or become personally involved in one or more of the stories will be provided through several different levels of pledge support. Assuming CHIMERICAL TALES is successfully funded, Barre intends for the magazine to launch in July 2013.

Those with talents became known as “Psionics”, quickly learning that if anyone suspected they were talented, or if they displayed their talent in public, it meant capture or death. Rewards for capture were standard, lynchings more common.
Something has to change.
Long in coming, resistance is here and gaining momentum. Psionics are banding together with sympathizers and ex-Psi Hunters. The time has come to put an end to Wildfire and gain the right to live free of imprisonment and fear of death.

I felt someone slap my neck with a ruler.
"Ow! What was that for?" I opened my eyes. Saw the teacher, Ms. Slaphappy, staring at me.
"Pay attention, young man! You're supposed to be practicing!"
Third day of lessons on halo usage.
"I was," I growled, "Until you came along."
"No you weren't. You had your music on."
"Yeah. You said to meditate. I use music to--"
"DON'T TALK BACK AT ME YOUNG MAN!!" She slapped me with the ruler about ten more times as she yelled.
I clenched my fists. Closed my eyes and tried to stay--
"DON'T YOU NOD OFF WHEN I'M TALKING TO YOU!!" More slaps.
I jumped out of my seat. "I'm not going to sleep. I'm trying to remain calm. And you're making it very difficult. So just walk away. Now." I shook my head. "Or, better yet, I will." I turned around to leave the room.
A hard slap on my bare wings. "DON'T TURN AWAY FROM ME!!"
I let out an eagle-like cry. A war cry. Warning her to back off.
I could feel myself getting hotter. The feathers in my pocket were rising to the flash point, threatening to combust.
I had to stay in control. Had to get away.
I ran to the bathroom and locked the stall. Put my headphones back on and meditated. Deep breaths. In 1... 2... 3... 4... hold 1... 2... 3... 4... out 1... 2... 3... 4... repeat.
Several minutes later, I was ready to come out. I checked my watch, saw that class was only half over. But there was no way I was going to risk going back.
Instead, I headed to the principle's office. Time to report Ms. Slaphappy for her insane use of corporeal punishment.
I smiled. I can't (legally) set her on fire, but getting her fired will be almost as satisfying.

I'm all about the networking and have no problem with promoting your work here, but I ask that you do so courteously and within the guidelines.
1-put any promotional posts in this folder only
2-if you're going to promote, it is polite to be involved in the other discussions as well. Trust me, if you just pop in for a commercial, you won't be driving home readers, you will be irritating them.
3-I'd rather only see one post per serial for promotional purposes. We don't need a new ad when you post a new chapter/episode. I'll leave em here, and if a reasonable amount of time has gone by and you want to update, maybe run it by me first.
4-when you post a promo, list the title, genre, posting frequency, short description and excerpt along with a url... so we can get a feel for what you're offering.
