lethe | 14848 comments I came across Greek author Pol Koutsakis and his books all have the Greek author name as primary and the English spelling as secondary for some reason. Really odd, because the international name is a GR author profile.

I corrected Baby Blue, but the rest of the books still need to be done.

Thanks in advance.

Z-squared | 8580 comments It's my understanding that only the books that have been published in English need to have the English spelling as primary for all editions. For books that have only been released in Greek, the Greek spelling is fine as primary. Someone else want to chime in on this? Do I have it wrong?

lethe | 14848 comments Yes, you have it wrong. See https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/4...

"All editions should have the primary author name as the standard or most common Roman (that is, English-language) version of the author's name. Editions published under another spelling of the name or the name in another language should have that name listed as the secondary author."

With "all editions" not just the editions of translated books are meant, but all editions of all books published by the author. That way, the English/international profile will have the complete list (and combine page).

There is a thread in the Additions to the Librarians Manual folder with requests and suggestions to make this section in the Manual less ambiguous, because lots of mistakes are made over this, but so far staff haven't changed it.*

*although they did add a line about international profiles to the pseudonyms section:

"For non-Anglophone authors who have been translated into English (or other languages using the Roman alphabet), the English/international version of the name should be the first name on all editions, and the name as it appears on the cover should be listed second."

Z-squared | 8580 comments It would be sure awesome if that were changed to "all editions of all books"...

Yes, and if they dropped the sentence "Authors with books published in multiple languages should have their names dealt with similarly to those with pen names."

The treatment of non-Anglophone author names is not similar to that of pseudonyms at all.

All of this author's works need to have the international name added to primary position.

Aleksey Konstantinovich Tolstoy
