Every April, when the wind blows from the sea and mingles with the scent of lilacs, Landon Carter remembers his last year at Beaufort High. It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two. He even swore that he had once been in love. Certainly the last person in town he thought he'd fall for was Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town's Baptist minister.
A quiet girl who always carried a Bible with her schoolbooks, Jamie seemed content living in a world apart from the other teens. She took care of her widowed father, rescued hurt animals, and helped out at the local orphanage. No boy had ever asked her out. Landon would never have dreamed of it.
Then a twist of fate made Jamie his partner for the homecoming dance, and Landon Carter's life would never be the same. Being with Jamie would show him the depths of the human heart and lead him to a decision so stunning it would send him irrevocably on the road to manhood...
Prologue-Chapter 3 (view spoiler)[ the starting itself seeing how landon described his life changing event at 17 made me want to cry,but i cant say that i dont love it.love jamie's character and landons.they sound cute together....new ship.....jandon ;) (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 4-7 (view spoiler)[ i had to laugh at how jamie is quite good at guilt tripping landon into doing things he doesnt want to and i kinda hate his friends for making fun of him.so what if someone wants to act nice.no need to be mean about it....gah! (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 8-10 (view spoiler)[ its kind of starting to get hard to read landon falling for jamie knowing what she is hiding from him.for why else would she tell him not to fall in love with her as she slowly changes him from his immature stuck up ways to a mature, helpful, loving man.....tissues out with tons of chocolate (hide spoiler)]
Finished (view spoiler)[ okay i cant stop crying like seriously.why why why did she have to have leukaemia.and for landon to find out the way he did,and still marry her knowing she wont live long.....that is true love.....i cant stop crying ugh *crams chocolate into mouth (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 2 (view spoiler)[ Jamie is too cute. The whole “promise not to fall in love with me” easily sounds like just a clever little joke (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 4 (view spoiler)[ At least Landon tried to learn about the tombstones he was sitting on. That's kind of a respectful thing to do, right? (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 7 (view spoiler)[ I actually feel bad for Landon. It seems he enjoys his time with Jamie, but his friends are such huge jerks that it ends up making him act like a jerk too because he's so concerned about what they think of him (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 12 (view spoiler)[ Jamie prayed for Landon to fall in love with her and Landon just asked her to marry him and my emotions can't handle how much love I have for this couple (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 4 (view spoiler)[ I live Jamie so much. I wish I were more of a Jamie. Landon seems so much more realistic though. He isn't a complete jerk- he does agree to the play- but he isn't perfect either. I've met plenty of people like him, but none like her. (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 7 (view spoiler)[It stinks that Landon's cares so much what his friends think, but that's pretty typical. I feel bad for Jamie though. She doesn't have any friends and I think Landon is the closest she has to one even if he doesn't really like her. (hide spoiler)]
(view spoiler)[ Yes! I cried through the last 30 pages at least. And I knew it was coming. I saw the movie years ago. I knew she was going to die. But in the book she was just so much better as a person. And those pictures that the kids in the orphanage drew killed me. Like ripped out my heart. I'm going to hate myself but I need to watch the movie again. But I want to know more. Did he keep going to the orphanage? Maybe he became a minister like she said? I want more. (hide spoiler)]
20% (view spoiler)[ I like how this is different to the movie so far with how they are having to hang out. I guess it makes me like Langdon a little more than I did in the movie :P
Janie will go to the dance with him on one condition “if you promise not to fall in love with me”. I loved that part! (hide spoiler)]
62% (view spoiler)[ Landon is in love with Janie! She said for him not to fall in love with her. I can’t believe she gave him her bible that means so much to her (hide spoiler)]
