I read it when I was five, because it was on a shelf that I could reach, and I liked the cover. It scared me a bit. I read it again when I was about 11, because someone gave me the second one to read (they didn't know it was a series). I read it for the third time when I was 14, because it was on a summer reading list, and even though I had read it twice at this point, I had to pick out and discuss themes and imagery, which I had not quite noticed when I read it before. I am now re-reading it (about 10 years later), because I want a mate to read it, who utterly refuses to read a "YA" book, and I want to make sure that all the depth and beauty I had seen through my young eyes was not the product of my youth.

The ambiguous ending haunted me for years, until I read the second book. Although I was glad for a resolution (and I liked the books), the sequels did not move me in the same way as the first.
I read it at the age of 20 , it was a gift from a 13 years old boy , who told me that is a must read in US . I was really impressed by the writter , the style and the main idea
My orchestra teacher in high school read it to us when I was a freshman. She was so blown away by the book that she shortened our playing time to share it with us. I feel in love with the book and have read it many times since then.

I was in 5th grade when I first read this book I hated it then but I recently reread it and it was just perfection!
I read this book when I was a teenager, however, I decided to read it again (age 26) as I wanted to finish the series. This book is quite fascinating and I recommend it to anyone and everyone.
I first read the book in 8th grade, I was about 12-13 years old at the time. I read it again at 24 and I really feel that the age at which I initially read this novel is perfectly fitting. The Giver is a story about coming of age so its only fitting to read it at that time in life. Its not a difficult read but it is a beautiful story. Although I think it can be enjoyed at all ages, readers between 11-14 will be most able to relate to it.
I read it last year (22 years old). I saw the commercial previews for the movies, which interested me in the book. Great read!
My frined read it about age 10 or 9. I'm working on it now.
I was in my 30's and read it before I did a novel study on it with a 7th grade class. I have read it many more times since then. I have also read all of the companion books. Giver is my favorite of the set and one of my all-time favorite books. I still haven't seen the movie because I'm afraid the movie will ruin the book I love.
11, I was in middle school. It was one of those mandatory books to read and I was the only kid in class that actually liked it. I also think it was the last "assigned" book that I read all the way through. It has been stuck in my mind ever since. I love it! :)

Read this book only few months ago - I am 36 years old. Who said this is "young adult book"?! Contents contains such "depth" - This is an adult book!!
I read this book in school when i was 12 and i read it again when i was 14, and i haven't read the rest of the series.
I read this when I was 12, and I loved it. It really made me think about things. It made me appreciate emotions.
I just read it for the first time last year (37 years old) with my 9 year old. One of his best friends and the friend's mom also read them with us. It was great to have the boys be able to discuss different aspects with a peer as well as a parent.
It is in the seventh grade curriculum and it is even used in some sixth grade. I would say that it is a great read for a person of any age over about 11.

Son is the final book and it ties everyting back to The Giver.

I'v..."I remember reading this book in middle school in my English class as the group reading things you have to do like we all had to do with to kill a mockingbird.I believe it was 7th grade. Anyway, it's a phenomenal book and the movie if I remember correctly is almost spot on minus a few conversations. (I know nothing turned into a movie can be 100% but still haha)
I was 20 or 21. It was close to my birthday. I thought the whole quartet was lovely and I deeply regret not having stumbled upon it sooner. The Giver still stands out as the best to me though.
I believe that I read this book the first time when I was ten and then finished the series when I was 11. I love this book series!
I stumbled upon it in 6th grade, I was probably around 10 or 11. I specifically read it because I liked Number The Stars by Lois Lowry.
I read this book in eighth grade. I loved it! I wasn't too excited about the movie at all. I do not even want to watch it because I anticipate that it would ruin the book.
