message 212: by Kayla (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kayla I read this at age 17 (right after the movie came out). I loved the film so much that I decided to give the book a second try. I originally tried to read it in middle school but couldn't manage to get through the first chapter. When I read it at 17, it was quite fabulous!!

random name I would have to say that there isn't really an age limit for this book. It depends on how mature the person is, or how much you can comprehend. In some parts, there are scenes that can be a little graphic but if you can handle it correctly, then you could read it at the age of 5.

message 219: by Pinky (new) - rated it 4 stars

Pinky Saribanon I read The Giver just few weeks ago. It's so awesome!! The ending makes me so eager to read the 2nd book in the series , but then i found out that Gathering Blue tells a different story, different community, different characters. I read it though, hope this another story would surprise me as The Giver did. But it turns out far less than i expected.

well, i decide to still give it a try and read the 3rd book (The Messenger). This book is connecting stories from the 1st & 2nd book.

In my opinion, The Giver stands above another books in the series (as far as i can tell, since i haven't read the last book). A friend told me to read the series till the end, because The Son will make everything make sense.

message 220: by emma (new) - rated it 5 stars

emma I read it in sixth grade.

Yoosong When I was 12, close to 13.

message 222: by em (new) - rated it 3 stars

em I read the Giver when I was 13, not long ago.
I really enjoyed it, and I didn't even know about the other books to well over five months after I read it.
Of course I read them right away and really enjoyed them too.
The Giver could have been a stand alone sort of thing, but it's not. I like it both ways.

message 223: by James (new)

James I first read this is ninth grade, so I guessing I read this when I was around 15 or 16 years old.

message 224: by random name (last edited Nov 06, 2014 03:09PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

random name I'm not understanding. Just because you read it at a certain age, it doesn't mean that that is the age everyone should read it at.

message 225: by Sophia (new)

Sophia Knudsen I read this when I was 11-12 (6th grade) in a classroom literary circle.

message 226: by Audrey (new) - rated it 2 stars

message 227: by Lonely (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lonely Reader The summer before grade 8 because every movie that I want to watch, sometimes has a book and I like to read the book first
*I actually didn't read the maze runner but saw the movie <-- (the only time I've done that)

message 228: by Maia (new) - rated it 5 stars

Maia I read this book in 8th grade. I am now 16....sooo lets see that was...3 yrs ago so i was 13yrs old when i read it. I loved this book. I am sooo glad that the someone decided to make it into a movie. However, I did not know that there were other books to this novel. When i asked a few friends if they knew this they said yes and they hated them so I am glad I knew nothing about them. And even if I dont read them I still feel like the Giver is a great book on its own.

Maia Dominique wrote: "I read this book when I was 12 and I instantly fell in love with it. I'm kind of interested in the movie but I know it won't compare to the book."

I agree Dominique. I am happy about it, but I can never compare it to the original. No matter how good the movie may be.

Jessica Jason wrote: "Annie wrote: "I first read this quite recently. I'm over 21. It was enlightening and I could see why many people had recommended to me over the years. Have you read the other books? If so, are they..."
They're all good. I live the way they're all written

message 231: by C. (new) - rated it 3 stars

message 240: by Bonnie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Bonnie Garland I read this book at 17 for the first time and fell hopelessly in love with it. I try'd to hand it on to all of my friends who read the same books as me but found they read it in class at age ten and none of them could stand it. I'm not sure what it is about the age difference that makes this book so unbelievable better but i love it.

Stanley I just recently read this book (at age 58) because it is on a recommended reading list for my son who is home-schooled. I was not familiar with the book and we usually preview what the kids read and/or watch. I found no objectionable content in The Giver but it did not inspire me to read any of the sequels.
