I read it a couple of years ago. Was probably 11 or 12. It's a great book for all ages. Definitely a big part of my "childhood."
I read this at age 17 (right after the movie came out). I loved the film so much that I decided to give the book a second try. I originally tried to read it in middle school but couldn't manage to get through the first chapter. When I read it at 17, it was quite fabulous!!
i was a 7th grader i had to read it for school. i didn't really care for it much but when i read it again it really did have a great appreciation for it
I read it when I was eleven but I recently re-read it too.
I was in 7th grade and had to read it for school. I didnt like it toooooooo much when i was in school (probably just because it was just another assignment. but ive re-read it since and i love it
I would have to say that there isn't really an age limit for this book. It depends on how mature the person is, or how much you can comprehend. In some parts, there are scenes that can be a little graphic but if you can handle it correctly, then you could read it at the age of 5.
I read The Giver just few weeks ago. It's so awesome!! The ending makes me so eager to read the 2nd book in the series , but then i found out that Gathering Blue tells a different story, different community, different characters. I read it though, hope this another story would surprise me as The Giver did. But it turns out far less than i expected.well, i decide to still give it a try and read the 3rd book (The Messenger). This book is connecting stories from the 1st & 2nd book.
In my opinion, The Giver stands above another books in the series (as far as i can tell, since i haven't read the last book). A friend told me to read the series till the end, because The Son will make everything make sense.
I read the Giver when I was 13, not long ago.I really enjoyed it, and I didn't even know about the other books to well over five months after I read it.
Of course I read them right away and really enjoyed them too.
The Giver could have been a stand alone sort of thing, but it's not. I like it both ways.
I'm not understanding. Just because you read it at a certain age, it doesn't mean that that is the age everyone should read it at.
The summer before grade 8 because every movie that I want to watch, sometimes has a book and I like to read the book first*I actually didn't read the maze runner but saw the movie <-- (the only time I've done that)
I read this book in 8th grade. I am now 16....sooo lets see that was...3 yrs ago so i was 13yrs old when i read it. I loved this book. I am sooo glad that the someone decided to make it into a movie. However, I did not know that there were other books to this novel. When i asked a few friends if they knew this they said yes and they hated them so I am glad I knew nothing about them. And even if I dont read them I still feel like the Giver is a great book on its own.

I read it when I was in 5th grade so around 11 years old. But I read it again as an adult soon after I saw the movie.
I read this freshmen year of high school. I was fourteen and loved the book and the whole concept and how humanity along with society have such a powerful impact
I read it in junior high or the first year of high school, I think. It's been a long while and I don't remember much of it except for a few little bits.
I read this book at 17 for the first time and fell hopelessly in love with it. I try'd to hand it on to all of my friends who read the same books as me but found they read it in class at age ten and none of them could stand it. I'm not sure what it is about the age difference that makes this book so unbelievable better but i love it.
I read the 1st book when I was 9, the 2nd and 3rd when I was 10, but I couldn't get hold of the 4th one until I was almost 12
I just recently read this book (at age 58) because it is on a recommended reading list for my son who is home-schooled. I was not familiar with the book and we usually preview what the kids read and/or watch. I found no objectionable content in The Giver but it did not inspire me to read any of the sequels.
