I'm sure I read a few Sherlock Holmes stories for literature classes somewhere along the way, but I didn't make a point to read any on my own until a couple of years ago. I started chronologically and read the first four books published. Then other things took my time and this is the next one that I've picked up to read.
After reading several, I definitely enjoy the short stories better than the novel length stories, and this is fairly unusual for me. I like how in the shorter stories the writing is more focused. For example, in the middle of this story, Holmes and Watson are separated for a while and I felt the story lost a bit of its momentum in that section. With that being said, this is my favorite of the longer Sherlock Holmes stories that I've read. There are lots of interconnecting details between the characters and the setting on the moor is perfect. I found the hound to be an interesting mystery, and overall really enjoyed the story.
