My read dates and starting dates have all disappeared, too. It's frustrating, but they'll be back eventually.

Yes.... I did take Elizabeth's advice and my dates came back soon thereafter...the two things may or may not be related...but then I got a nice response indicating the GR was aware of the bug and it would be fixed soon.

I just posted a bunch of shorter books including 3 Shakespeare plays, so I'm sorry to have listed so many all at once. There are two reasons: one, we are going to The Oregon Shakespeare Festival the first week in July, so I'm in the mood for Shakespeare. The second is that I volunteered for what turned out to be a speed reading challenge based on Quidditch structured like the Harry Potter game. I read a lot of short books to help out because I read a lot, but I am not actually a speed reader. It will be over sometime today and it will be good to get back closer to normal!
I just couldn't seem to get my post for The Buccaneers right. Can't use for Listopia Tag because of a lexile issue, but I went ahead and claimed the female style. No, Elizabeth, no.
The new cruise ship
Norwegian Bliss
came through today. I think it was here last Monday, too, but I didn't see it. I has a capacity of 4000 passengers - taller and wider than the others that come through here - and my husband tells me it was the first of the large ships to go through the new Panama Canal.

I just returned this evening after taking an extended road trip to Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. I was taking grandson to Iowa to spend summer with my daughter, his mother. Then I went on to do some research on the Western Underground Railroad and to try to verify any of my ancestors had anything to do with it. I know they were abolitionists but family legend had they helped ferry fugitive slaves from slave holding Missouri to Free state Iowa, where they eventually went further north until they got to Canada. Found some clues in old newspapers too. They were pioneers to Kansas in 1852 when it was still “Indian Terroritory” I did find many of their graves, and met with some nice people in Historical Societies, libraries and really distant cousins. Dropped in on a few locals too to get their oral history. Went by part of Oregon Trail and saw a sad Cholera cemetery there. Most of the graves were infants and children and several markers only said “unknown”.

We went with Norwegian Cruise Lines when we did the Alaskan cruise. It was my husband's parents 50th wedding anniversary, otherwise we probably wouldn't have chosen to cruise at that point in our lives. It was very nice, partially due to the fact that it wasn't one of those gigantic cruise ships. It's interesting they are moving to larger ships now.

That is our feeling too. Although, unless you are rich and have a yacht, it really is the only way to see that part of the coast of BC and Alaska. It also was a good way to handle the whole extended family with different age ranges + interests.

"Or you could live here. ;-) We have taken the trip via Alaska Ferry to Bellingham and back - 36 hours one way. We've also gone north the same way. Lots to see, but no entertainment on board, so bring a book.
I would LOVE to come to Alaska some day. It is on my bucket list, for sure.

Several years ago, one of my friends (from south) was in Fairbanks on the solstice. I've never been to Fairbanks, but if I were to go, that's when I'd like to be there. It is worth noting, that it is getting into the high 60s F during the day, but still low to mid-30's F overnight.

I've been to Alaska, but it was when I was 14. I spent six weeks in Anchorage with relatives that left there two years later--it was amazing but not hear where Elizabeth lives. We even spent a night at the foot of Mt McKinley with friends of my relatives.
The Alaskan cruise ships sail by my parents' place in southwestern BC as well as they go through Georgia Strait. My parents live on the mainland (but you take a ferry to get there--no road connects it just like no roads go to Juno, etc). I wonder if my parents have ever seen that very large one.

Its going to be a gre..."My sister and her husband had quite a surprise when they drove up the AlCan nearly 30 years ago. They saw a moose race across the highway. As they were wondering what on earth could make a moose move that quickly, a grizzly bear appeared, chasing it. Drive carefully :) and enjoy your trip!!!!!
Maybe I won't get any sympathy, but I have to whine anyway. It's hot, hot, hot! It was 85 today. We're not used to this - 3 days ago the high was 65, and we've had mostly 50s all month. No one in Ketchikan has air conditioning, except stores. We have a fan, of course, and it is working overtime and there is a breeze, so all of the doors and windows are open to get air circulation. But it's 84 in the house. I can only hope it will cool down tonight. Ok, whine over.

We'll at least empathize. ;) I was telling my husband, even after all of these years of living in Ontario, I still am not a fan of the extremes of heat + humidity or cold due to being born and raised on the West Coast! We've lived in Ontario for 32 years, I wonder how long I can keep on with that excuse.....
Yesterday, in a facebook group I belong to, one of the members posted that she does not read. This shocked me to the core. Reading is such a big and important part of my life, that I think someone who doesn't read must have an empty life. (I do understand time constraints, but even 1 or 2 books a year is still reading). Obviously, I'm overstating it - I guess they fill it up with TV??
