I am back from my parents house and we had Thanksgiving over there. I got to see my niece. She is 9 months old. She is so funny. She dances to music and shakes her head. She can also crawl and she can stand up. She rather stand up than crawl.

Got back from Peru yesterday morning and this morning there is snow n the ground. I tried to pack Peruvian spring in my suitcase but it just wouldn’t fit!

Ha..... tell me about it! ;)
I just finished The Fur Person, on Anika + Elizabeth's recommendations. Such a charming book. It has just made me so happy! I told Scott that Boris + Tasha (our cats) have to buy it for me for Christmas; + they have to buy it for their 'Auntie Wendy' who cat-sits them!
Jayme(the ghost reader) wrote: "Thank you everyone for the congratulations. I can't wait for my gift card. :)"You should already have it, Jayme.
Valerie wrote: "Congrats to Jayme on winning the gift card!"Yay, that's a nice pre-Christmas surprise for you, Jayme :)
Jayme(the ghost reader) wrote: "Nope, I checked my inbox, spam folders, nothing from Amazon"I tried resending it. If you don't get it today, please use the GR mail system to let me know.

I think of that when I see cats in the window as we walk the neighborhood.

All of our sills are ideal for sitting cats. However, they like the back patio door the best for viewing the bird feeders + the squirrels +chipmunks (who come up on the deck)!
Valerie wrote: "However, they like the back patio door the best for viewing the bird feeders + the squirrels +chipmunks (who come up on the deck)!"My daughter lives just north of Phoenix, Arizona. Her cats are very interested in seeing the geckos on her deck, and who, bravely, sometimes climb on the window screens.

Elizabeth,
I received the gift card from Amazon. Thank you.
I'm still using Windows7 and support will be going away in January. So. I'm in the market for a new computer. I'll be getting a desktop, as I want the fuller keyboard and larger monitor that usually accompanies one. I also have no need/desire to use a computer in more than one location. But an entirely informal poll occurs to me.What kind of computer do you use for Goodreads? (laptop, desktop, tablet, phone ...)
Do you access GR with more than one device?
I have a laptop, so this is where I access and post to GR.If we are traveling I do look at it on my phone + may, very occasionally, comment using the phone. I don't really like the interface, perhaps because I'm not used to it.
This last time we were in Victoria, Scott had his iPad with him (which is relatively new to him) so I was able to use it for posting to the group.
Oh, yes, as to the iPad. My daughter gave me one in October and I was ever so glad to have it while we were displaced over the bathroom remodel.
I have a MacBook Air laptop....and I use my phone while traveling...but the app on the phone is not very helpful. One caution...if you are concerned like me about Russia's aggression against Ukraine...be aware that Apple has caved into Russian demands by indicating that Crimea is part of Russia. I don't intend to buy any additional Apple products.
Well, my winter RwS is much better than the fall one was. I have already completed a book and POSTED it!
Bea wrote: "Well, my winter RwS is much better than the fall one was. I have already completed a book and POSTED it!"Yay! ;-)
I use a laptop to post on GR. I go on my phone and check the site but it is hard to comment on my phone.
On a different note, I was wondering if there is anyone in the medical field on here. Today I was with my family for a Christmas pageant. Afterwards, we went to a restaurant. The mom gave my niece yogurt and she broke out in hives on her face and stomach. My niece was tested for food allergies and she doesn't have any. Can you have hives for no reason? I suppose it can be the laundry detergent they use. I am not sure. They took her to Walgreens and the pharmacist gave my niece liquid Benedryl. She is under a year old. She was fine after the Benedryl.
So, this season has made me realize how few translated works I have on my shelves by female authors. Apparently, my most common non-English books are written by Japanese men, followed by men writing in other languages. But hardly any women. Please recommend some female authors who publish in languages other than English that I should read. Thanks!
Here are some lists, with titles that might interest you. I note that The Vegetarian by Han Kang is on them and that some of our members have read it. There are other authors and titles who I recognize from this group.https://bookriot.com/2018/08/23/must-...

And off the top of my head, I could recommend Irène Némirovsky.
Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "And off the top of my head, I could recommend Irène Némirovsky."Oh, that's a good suggestion. I've read two of hers and liked them. I should investigate whether my library has other books by her.
How about:Banana Yoshimoto
Sayaka Murata
Clarice Lispector
Samanta Schweblin
Although, I have the same problem - an abundance of Japanese male writers to read or have read!
Here's a few more women in translation:Isabel Allende
Elena Ferrante
Tove Jansson The Summer Book
Marguerite Duras The Lover
Muriel Barbery The Elegance of the Hedgehog
As for Japanese women in translation, I have two on my shelves. Yōko Ogawa (who I have read)
Yūko Tsushima (who I have not read)
Recently I read The Bookseller of Kabul by Åsne Seierstad. This would qualify for 20.3 She Writes and 20.6 Stand Up for Your Rights, and there is a 5-star review by Lisa (I gave it 4-stars). I don't know that the phrase appears in a review, but I'll prequalify it for 20.5 Sense of Place.

I totally get it. Having the house worked ..."
We were lucky, much of the work happened under the house. Plus two months is just too long to vacate the premises.
