Here in Atlanta, in 2014, we had less than 2 inches of snow.
The media calls it Snowmageddon or Snowpocalypse, because it literally shut down the city for 2 days. Here's a link to local coverage: Fox 5 Atlanta News The roads were undriveable. School buses were unable to drive, and many elementary school students spent the night at their school. My daughter -- who works as a nurse at a local hospital -- was unable to get to work. Grocery stores were emptied of food (trucks were stuck on the interstates, unable to deliver supplies).

I was born & raised in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Two inches of snow is nothing -- people just go about their business. It takes 2 feet of snow to close down the D.C.!

Please be aware that the Nobel counts for Sweden, not Norway.

Elizabeth (Alaska) In the AbC Plans thread Beth wrote: "10 - Portugal - literary prize of the city of lisboa - 1982 - Baltasar and Blimunda (should get approved first, in wiki/gr but obscure)"

Beth, that book will work for Portugal because Saramago won the Camoes Prize. Please use that award instead.

Sometimes it even helps me to understand better after I read the book. I wouldn’t have understood the context of a lot of what the comments were about if I hadn’t read book first.

Elizabeth (Alaska) In the AbC Plans thread More options

It doesn't mess up your plan, I think, but the Franz Kafka Prize should be used for Czech Republic. Wikipedia seemed to link it to several countries, but this is where we should use it.

Elizabeth (Alaska) In the AbC Plans threadBea wrote: "2. Scotland: Saltire Society Literary Award (2016) - His Bloody Project: Documents Relating to the Case of Roderick Macrae"

Scotland is part of the UK so that this award should be used for the UK. As you don't seem to have another UK award, this doesn't mess up your plan. Sorry, I see you have an award for "Britain" which is the same as UK. So you will have only 9 countries as your plan now stands.

Elizabeth (Alaska) In the AbC Plans thread Rebekah wrote: "6. Austria - Franz Kafka My Michael"

See my comment above for Beth. The Franz Kafka award is for the Czech Republic as it is awarded from Prague. I think you don't have another, so your plan should be OK, but please report as Czech.

Elizabeth (Alaska) I think I have reviewed everyone's plans through today's postings. If you make changes/updates, you might think to make a post over here just so that I know about it.

OK. I was wondering about that. Scotland but not Ireland, right?

Bea Elizabeth, I have replaced Scotland with UK for the Saltire award...and replaced Britain with Australia. I think that will make my plan complete. Agree?

Yes, that will work! Glad you were able to find another. (And yes, Ireland is a separate country.)

message 575: by Bea (new)

Bea Well, I have not managed to stick to my plan for this quarter...so I have been busy trying to find books that I have read and fitting them into the tasks. I am sorry that I have not kept up and done this prior to now...but I promise to complete my posting this weekend...and not wait until the end of the month. Please, forgive me, moderators. I am checking now to try to get the styles reviewed. Then I will post.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Thanks, Bea. And I just did a session yesterday, so this weekend will be easier than otherwise.

Deedee | 2292 comments Just realized that goodreads has eliminated the option:

- most read authors (accessible from the left-hand side of the My Books page)

Apparently they are waiting to hear how many users complain that they miss this option and want it back! I liked this option and would use it several times per month. Here's the link to Goodreads Feedback:

Goodreads Feedback

If you would like this option back, please go to that link and post a line or two stating that you would like it back.

Yes.

message 599: by Rebekah (last edited Feb 24, 2019 04:46AM) (new)

Rebekah (bekalynn) I have a few questions about the polls for the animals and birds. Will subtitles count ie Marley and Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog or Wild Within: How Rescuing Owls Inspired a Family ?
Would the actual words “Animal “ or “Bird” fit for the respective task? ieMy Family and Other Animals or The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle
Does the word in the title have to refer to a character in the book? ieThe Sinister Pig (the pig in the title refers to a piece of equipment used in drilling) or One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
Can they be fictional animals or birds? The Last Unicorn or Mockingjay
Would compound words worK? Beartown or Dovecote

message 600: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah (bekalynn) I voted for the bird option because of the possibility of combos with the names task. Skylark would be one.
