Help needed adding characters

Hi, I need some help adding characters to my books. But first, can someone please explain the protocol to me for when a character originates from another author’s book? I have a series where the protagonist is Octavius Guy (AKA Gooseberry), who first appeared in Wilkie Collins’s The Moonstone. Do you simply use the page for the original character, or do you create a new page for my Octavius? If it’s the latter, do you link these two pages, so readers can see they appear in (at least) two books? Or does that only happen within a distinct series of books where the character appears more than once? Cheers!
