Erica Graham (erica_graham) | 268 comments We will be doing author takeovers on the Navigating Indieworld and Indie Authors Monthly Facebook pages! This is a great way to reach a potentially new audience. The only the cost to you is anything you decide to giveaway as prizes. Here is how a takeover works:

1. Sign up for a time slot (these will be 30 minute slots), and yes, you need to have a Facebook account.

2. Plan some games and giveaways to post during your time slot. Most people do an intro to who they are/their books and 2-3 other posts with games and giveaways.

3. Promote, promote, promote the event.

4. On the day of the event, get on the Navigating Indieworld or the I.A.M. Magazine Facebook page (whichever you signed up for) atleast 5-10 minute prior to your scheduled time. Once the author before you finishes, the hosting position will be passed to you. You will add your planned posts during your time slot. Be sure to give time between each post for people to participate.

5. At the end of your time, the event will be passed to the next host and you are done.

*Just a note, you can leave some giveaways open for longer than your 30 minute slot so people who join later can look back and still enter.

If you are interested, here is how to sign-up:

1. Go to the Indie Authors Monthly Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/IndieAuthors...) or the Navigating Indieworld page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/17603...).

2. There is a post with a sign up sheet.

3. Click the link for the sheet and put your name and email in the time slot you want. The sheet should automatically save your information. Please close and reopen the sheet to make sure your info was saved.

*Please only sign up for one of the takeovers at this time to allow everyone a chance. If you are interested in participating in both, please keep an eye on this thread. We will let you know if we need more participants in the other takeover as soon as we feel everyone has had a chance to sign-up.
---------------------------
May Takeover sign-ups are now live:

Navigating Indieworld-May 3, 12pm-8pm EST
Indie Authors Monthly-May 10, 12pm-8pm EST

Erica Graham (erica_graham) | 268 comments We still need more participants for the Facebook takeovers. These are a lot of fun and a great way to reach new readers. If you are considering joining us, but have questions, please feel free to ask. :)

message 3: by Erica (new)

Erica Graham (erica_graham) | 268 comments Thanks to everyone who has signed up so far. If you have already signed up for one takeover, you can now sign up for the other one too.

If you have not signed up for any takovers, we need more participants! If you still have questions, feel free to ask. :)

I've signed up for the events in each group - can we schedule posts in advance? Thank you!

message 8: by Eleyne-Mari (new)

Eleyne-Mari Sharp (writelighter) | 18 comments Booked a spot on May 10 to promote my new book, "MAD ABOUT HUE: A Memoir in Living Color." Looking forward to sharing the pretty colors!

message 9: by Erica (new)

Erica Graham (erica_graham) | 268 comments Yay, Cecily and Eleyne-Mari! And yes, you will be able to schedule posts. I believe RL is planning to open it the day before.

message 10: by D.J. (new)

D.J. Cooper | 246 comments That’s a relief. I get very paranoid about things like this and like to sort details out ahead of time. I’ll probably want someone to check my time slot three times just to make sure I’ve got the correct time in the UK.

that's right, Erica, can we arrange our post ahead of time?

message 12: by Erica (new)

Erica Graham (erica_graham) | 268 comments RL said she would open the page the day before. I was just on the group page though and it may be a possibility to go ahead and begin scheduling your posts. You are welcome to give it a try if you want. Just make sure you are on the group page (link in the original post at the top of this thread) and not on the other Navigating Indieworld page.

message 13: by Erica (new)

Erica Graham (erica_graham) | 268 comments Tomorrow is the big day! Please help us get the word out about the Navigating Indieworld author takeovers. The event will take place on the group page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/17603.... People need to join the group and then return tomorrow starting at noon (eastern time).

This is a good opportunity to learn more about how author takeovers work as well. Please help us spread the word then join us throughout the day tomorrow. There will be a new author every 30 minutes.

We still have spots left for the Indie Authors Monthly takeover on the 10th.

message 14: by Carmel (new)

Carmel Hanes I look forward to seeing this in action...as a learning process. I decided since I don't have my ebook in mobi format, I needed to sit this one out and learn how it is done. But I hope to tune in and I wish great success to all those who are participating!

message 15: by Erica (new)

Erica Graham (erica_graham) | 268 comments Thanks, Carmel! Hope to see you during the takeover!

I had good sales yesterday- Anyone else?

message 22: by D.J. (new)

D.J. Cooper | 246 comments Cracks me up when you report good sales, Carole. I can give you my usual answer-no.

It was a great experience. I can’t do next week’s one because I’m in London with friends. I’ll try to pop in for a look if I get a chance.

I’ll also sort out my freebies next week as I’ll be away for the weekend.

Erica Graham (erica_graham) | 268 comments Thanks again to everyone who participated in the Navigating Indieworld takeover. We had great responses from the people who attended.

There are only 6 more author spots for the Indie Authors Monthly takeover that will take place on the 10th. You can sign up here: https://www.facebook.com/IndieAuthors...

Thanks!!

Do the authors need to belong to this group? Or may we share the announcement with other writing group pages on Facebook?

message 27: by Erica (new)

Erica Graham (erica_graham) | 268 comments Good questions. We do not have any specific hashtags for this event. I tend to use hashtags that target readers.

If you are referring to sharing the announcement about takeover spots still available for authors, Indie Authors Monthly is open to all indie authors. We would like them to join our Goodreads group and/or like/follow our Facebook page if they would like to participate as a takeover author.

If you are referring to who you can announce the event to, the answer is anyone and everyone. Feel free to invite people to come join us for the event to meet the participating authors and possibly win some great prizes. You can share the event in any groups that you want, as long it isn't against their group rules. :)

Eleyne-Mari Sharp (writelighter) | 18 comments Just saw the new location change. Would you please explain what "Due to some restrictions by Facebook for our takeover authors" means? I ask because I am hosting a book launch party on my Events page on Facebook this Sunday. It's just me and one other person posting during the 8 hours. Do I need to create a Group page? Appreciate your feedback.

Just means that on the page it’ll bury the posts on a community spot instead of the main wall and post as the page instead of your profile. In the group we avoid all of that and everything is visible. We hadn’t realized that until today so we apologize.

message 39: by Eleyne-Mari (last edited May 09, 2018 12:36PM) (new)

Eleyne-Mari Sharp (writelighter) | 18 comments Thank you for the heads up. I was planning on hosting my launch party on my Events page. Do you think that will still work? I've done it before and I had no issues. Otherwise, I'll need to start a group, too, because I don't want any posts buried during my event.

I think a group should happen either way because you have a lot more control and the people there will see a lot more of what you post anyway as opposed to the page.

Erica Graham (erica_graham) | 268 comments Hi, Cecily. Yes, we can set you up to schedule your posts ahead of time. We had to move the event to a group page because facebook wouldn't allow author posts to be visible on our main page. We will be redirecting people to the group before and during the event.

Please join the group page at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/10457... and we can give you rights from there.

Sorry for any confusion. I think group pages seem to be the way to go anymore, but I have hosted launch parties on an events page before and they worked out well. The only problem I ran into with event pages is some people get confused on where the discussion is happening (they have to click the discussion tab in the event).
