Thank you, thank you to all the authors who participated in and promoted the takeovers! I had a blast and hope you all did as well. :)
Thank you IAM Takeovers- Michael's book went from a solid 2400 to
#501 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Teen & Young Adult > Horror
#690 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Teen & Young Adult > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Fantasy > Sword & Sorcery
#1042 in Books > Teens > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Fantasy > Sword & Sorcery
IT WORKS!!!

Nice one Carole. Even I sold an ebook at some point after the first takeover.Alex, yes, do it, just plan your posts weeks in advance then all you've got to do is cut and paste them. I tried to schedule one post, but it didn't show up.
I still need to give a book away to someone. I haven't forgotten, I'm just way behind due to other commitments and headaches.
That is awesome! The interaction may have seemed low at times, but I was also watching the "views" of each post. There were a LOT of people who weren't commenting, but they were looking at all the posts. Those views are still growing today as people get up and these posts are showing up in their Facebook feed. :)
I'm glad to hear the takeovers went well for everyone. I'd love to participate next time, just couldn't commit this time as I'm crazy busy getting high schoolers through AP testing. Some day I'll write a book about all the excuses, the pleas, and the crazy things that go wrong even when you think everything is so perfectly organized. Actually, the Chinese test I proctored yesterday would probably fill a book all on its own. Congratulations to all who participated!
I have no idea. I haven't paid much attention to my Amazon rankings, because it seems no matter what I do, nothing much changes. Depending on the category, they stay somewhere in the 15,000 to 90,000 range. (Although I will admit I just don't have a lot of time for messing around with it.) I also can't get into my KDP sales dashboard this morning, because it insists it has to send me a confirmation email to let me log on from this computer, and my email address is accessible from my laptop but not here. *grumble* Oh, well.
I really enjoyed the takeovers. And I learned a lot from the May 3rd and 10th takeovers. I'm going to sign up for one next time!
I'm happy to hear that you all felt it was fun and time well spent! It's an interesting concept....maybe some day I'll give it a try. My fear is two-fold...I'm not sure my book will readily capture interest compared with the other genres offered, and I don't have an easy way to offer a freebie...or at least, I'm unfamiliar with how to at this point. The timing of these was not good for me (even to participate as a guest), and most of the people I could have invited are unavailable due to work. But....glad others gave it a shot and it's interesting to hear the results for you all! Congrats!
Many takeovers are genre specific. The nice thing about these takeovers is the diverstiy of genres. There is something for everyone.
When offering freebies, you can email a mobi copy directly to someone's Kindle address. You can also buy and gift a copy from Amazon. You will get the royalties for the purchase so you are only out the difference that Amazon keeps. You can also be creative and gift things like Amazon gift cards, bookmarks, bookplates, etc.
Also, some of us keep our giveaways open past our time slot for people that aren't able to make it during the event. There are some giveaways still open for a few more hours. I hear you on work, but from past experience, the interaction on weekends is much lower than during the week due to people being busy with personal things on the weekends and vacations.
Hope you can join as a takeover author one day!

Ah, OK...that helps. I have not investigated the gifting from Amazon. That makes it easier, as I don't have a mobi version of my ebook at this point. And good to know that people can still access it after the time slots. One of my nightmares is throwing a party no one comes to....lol....I need to get over that, huh?! Maybe next time! Appreciate the explanation.
It is more personal preference as to how long you leave your giveaway open. Some people do close them by the end of their time slot. I like to leave mine open for 24 hours after the entire event ends. You can also giveaway different ebook versions other than mobi if you don't want to gift through Amazon (sometimes gifting through Amazon needs to be limited to your home country because some countries don't allow ebooks gifted from other Amazon sites, but you just need to specify the eligible country(ies) in your rules--not a big deal). Hope you have a great weekend, Carmel!

I feel that I always have to offer a print book, because most families don't want children's books in kindle form, and it's expensive, but still....
I agree too. Kids books are preferable in print. I have offered both and always get more activity when it is a print book up for grabs. If I do more than one giveaway at an event, I always make sure at least one prize is something physical--just a personal preference. I have given away print books, but I also have done things like handmade bookmarks and signed canvas paintings of some of my book characters. Amazon gift cards are also popular prizes.
If you send a mobi directly to someone’s kindle email they need to authorise your email address before they can receive it. Hence I still haven’t sorted my giveaway out.
Correct. Good point. They need to go into their Amazon account and select manage devices from the menu. Then they need to add your email address to the list of addresses their device accepts documents from.
And if you buy a copy from one side of the Atlantic you can’t gift it to someone on the other side. They don’t make it easy.

I didn't see any sales from it, but I gave away my series to several people, so maybe I'll get some reviews from it. And it was a fun event, regardless.
New takeover day for the Navigating Indieworld group! July 26th. We have adjusted the time slots a little following the last takeover. Here is the sign up form: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
IAM will have a tenative takeover coming in August. More information to come.
IAM will have a tenative takeover coming in August. More information to come.
Authors get a time slot during a specific day to post about themselves, their books and maybe run giveaways.
Thank you, D.J. :) My initial message is a little burried. If you go back to message 1 on the first page, I go into more detail. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I know if you have not done or seen a takeover before it can be a bit much to wrap your mind around, but they aren't too difficult once you get the idea.
