SOLVED. Adult Thriller. Kids carve name in tree (maybe) and then they start getting killed off as adults? [s]

My husband and I remember seeing this book at Barnes and Noble. We read the synopsis and then put it back. Now he's looking for it again. He seems to remember a yellow cover but no promises. The carving their names in a tree isn't necessarily true, but it's something like they were friends as kids, and then did something together. Later on, they have to re-connect bc they are getting killed off
