I just finished The Exiles, by Christina Baker Kline. I really liked it. The characters are great and it explores history in Australia during the 1840’s.

Started Swing Time by Zadie Smith.

I would definitely recommend American Dirt, thought that was a terrific book.

I needed something lightweight, or at least what I thought was lightweight.... I Was Told it Would Get Easier by Abbi Waxman, and it is kinda lightweight but there are some contemplative themes couched in some witty and snarky fiction.

wow, i just went back to the end of July to catch up on what everyone is reading and, wow, what a diverse selection of books and a variety of ppl. Its amazing the inclusivity of this group.

i am currently reading the hard copy of "Big Girls Dont Cry" by Connie Briscoe and the E-book Zap Tales. Two very different books.

i think that's what I enjoy most about reading... being able to be a Black woman in1983 Washington, D.C. one movement then an Italian man serving life imprisonment in upstate New York in 2019. With books, you can be any person, anywhere, Any gender, and in any time period. and the transformation can take place whether you are washing dishes, driving, or flying in an airplane. Books beat movies any day. IMO

Almost finished with THE PANTHER, by Nelson DeMille (a 2012 NY Times Bestseller). It's a down-to-earth spy thriller about terrorism in Yemen that doesn't bore you with politics. It's about a CIA mission in which a married couple go to Yemen to assassinate an Al Qaeda terrorist responsible for the bombing of the USS Cole. The protagonist is a wise-ass FBI guy who constantly cracks jokes. Forget the heavy subject matter -- this book is pure entertainment, and a fast-paced thriller!
